Chapter 2649: The Way He Looked the First Time I Saw Him

"Look at you, getting all nervous. I’m just teasing you. How could I bear to joke about our precious daughter? I’m eating very regularly these days, don’t worry." Erin Janus’s laughter came through. "Finish your work early and come back. We need to go for another check-up; the baby is almost due."

"Alright."

"You have to be with me, you must be with me." On the other end, Erin Janus was being coy, her tone playful.

"Got it."

"Have you had breakfast? Did you sleep well last night? I’m heavily pregnant now, it’s inconvenient to go anywhere. Otherwise, I’d love to go out with you. Remember to bring me a gift when you’re on a business trip."

"What do you want?"

"The new bracelet from Bvlgari looks beautiful, with diamonds. Get it for me."

While Sylvan Cheney was on the phone, Jasmine Yale walked past him and opened the door to the hospital room.

The couple’s affection exceeded her expectations, but it really wasn’t necessary to deliberately discuss these things in front of her.

Jasmine Yale walked towards the elevator, gently pressing the button.

The elevator descended.

The numbers on the display screen jumped one by one, changing until it stopped at her floor.

She got into the elevator.

Just as the elevator doors were about to close, Sylvan Cheney rushed out of the hospital room, his gaze fixed intently on Jasmine Yale.

He hadn’t yet managed to put away his phone and took quick strides towards the elevator.

Jasmine Yale pressed the button to close the elevator doors.

Sylvan Cheney couldn’t catch up. She leaned against the wall of the elevator, silently watching her reflection in the mirror.

She went home.

Leaving the hospital, she hailed a taxi and left, with Sylvan Cheney not chasing after at all.

She hadn’t had breakfast and felt very tired. Even though she had just woken up, she wanted to sleep as soon as she got into the car. Sometimes she really wished to sleep through everything, so that there would be no worries...

She leaned against the window, quietly gazing at the street scene outside, a dim light in her eyes.

The hospital wasn’t very far from home, just about a twenty-minute drive. The sunlight fell on the glass, refracting into tiny beams of light, red, orange, yellow, green, blue, indigo, violet, colorful and mottled.

Jasmine Yale remained motionless against the seat, her mind blank.

However, she hadn’t expected that when the taxi stopped at the entrance of the neighborhood, she would see a familiar figure.

All too familiar.

After spending days and nights together for more than half a year.

Will Caddel stood under the tree, backlit, with sunlight filtering through the branches, casting his elongated shadow on the ground, a hint of desolation in the posture.

A white shirt, black trousers, shoes spotless.

Just like the first time Jasmine Yale saw him.

Will Caddel had his hands in his trouser pockets, looking tired, with dark circles under his eyes, his thin lips pressed together, eyes focused on something unknown.

He was waiting.

Though his face didn’t show urgency, it was shrouded in an imperceptible sense of confusion.

"Miss, we’ve arrived. You can get out now." The driver reminded Jasmine Yale once again.

Only then did Jasmine Yale withdraw her gaze and alight from the car.

Unexpectedly, as soon as she stepped out, Will Caddel’s gaze turned towards her.

They were far apart, yet Will Caddel just watched her from a distance, squinting slightly, his lips seemingly moving.

If Jasmine Yale wanted to go home, she would inevitably pass by him.

She walked over slowly, knowing there would definitely come a day she’d have to face it, sooner or later.

Shadows of trees fell on his face, his usually gentle face looked a bit more desolate today; a gust of wind brushed across his cheek.

The weather was truly good today, with the sun shining brightly.
