Chapter 2640: They Are Siblings

The white lights of the hospital cast pale shadows on the floor and around the room.

The air was filled with the scent of disinfectant and alcohol.

Sylvan Cheney’s heartbeat had returned to normal.

Time ticked by, "tick-tock," "tick-tock."

"Sir, the patient’s condition is under control, you can go in and see her now." A nurse in a white coat approached him from behind, though he couldn’t tell how much time had passed.

Sylvan turned his head: "Got it."

"Mm!"

"How is she now?"

"The patient was given a sedative and is now sleeping. The sedative is quite effective; she probably won’t wake up until tomorrow morning."

"That aphrodisiac, does it harm her body?"

The nurse shook her head: "It’s not harmful to the body, but for a while, the patient might show signs of frigidity. This is a normal reaction after being given the antidote."

"Oh." Sylvan nodded, indicating his understanding.

This UT nurse openly stared at Sylvan a few times, perhaps finding him quite handsome, or maybe curious. How could this man hold a drugged woman and still restrain himself?

There was only one possibility—they were siblings or had a familial connection.

"Sir, if you need anything, you can find me. I’ll get back to work now."

"Mm."

The nurse left.

Sylvan shoved his hands into his trouser pockets, hesitating on the spot for quite a while.

The desire within him had long subsided, and his heart no longer beat wildly.

After some time, he walked into the ward and closed the door.

On the hospital bed, Jasmine Yale lay quietly sleeping, already changed into a clean hospital gown by the nurse.

Her body was frail and thin, the abnormal flush on her face had faded, her breathing calm, her complexion steady. Perhaps it was the sedative, but she appeared exceptionally peaceful, so peaceful it was frightening.

Sylvan leaned forward and looked at her face.

She slept without moving.

"Jasmine Yale." He called to her once.

No response.

"So worrisome," he muttered softly.

Having no means to deal with her, Sylvan simply sat at the bedside, watching over her for a while.

Her mobile phone was placed on the bedside table, and he picked it up for a glance.

Unable to unlock the passcode, he didn’t bother trying, and instead focused on the photo on the phone’s lock screen.

The picture was of Little Clementine, just starting to grow teeth.

The photo was beautiful, evidently taken professionally at a children’s photo studio. Little Clementine smiled carelessly, her big round eyes bright and lively, mouth open wide, full of joy.

Little Clementine was well-raised, fair and chubby, always dressed in stylish outfits.

Jasmine was willing to spend generously on her daughter.

Yet she herself was slender and weak, with dark circles under her eyes, like she hadn’t slept well in several nights.

Sylvan gazed at Little Clementine in the photo.

He really liked this little girl, she was adorable, and each time he saw her, he wanted to hold her, even now just looking at the picture gave him a special feeling.

This little girl resembled Jasmine Yale greatly; it wasn’t as apparent before, but now it was becoming clearer as she grew.

Both had double eyelids, big eyes, a high nose bridge, small lips, and dimples when they smiled, the resemblance was uncanny.

Sylvan wasn’t sleepy, he just held her phone, staring at the screen for a long time.

Sometimes he looked at Little Clementine, sometimes at Jasmine Yale.

Jasmine Yale, in deep sleep, was exceptionally serene, unmoving, her long lashes casting fan-shaped shadows on her cheeks, gentle and tranquil.
