Fated Guide to the SSS-Rank Sentinel?! But I'm Just A Useless Twin!
Chapter 47: Which Rabbit?
Lumi turned around, and the moment her eyes met those familiar yellow-hazel eyes, her entire body stiffened as an inexplicable sense of danger crawled up her spine.
The figure standing several steps away looked like Evan, yet at the same time, there was something deeply unfamiliar about him, something that made her instinctively hesitate despite recognizing him immediately.
"Evan...?"
He didn’t answer.
His gaze remained fixed on her, silent and unwavering, while faint strands of electricity continued crawling across his body and disappearing into the darkness surrounding them.
There was no obvious anger on his face this time, nor was there the wild expression she had seen when he was attacking everything around him. Instead, he looked strangely calm, almost too calm for someone who was supposed to be trapped in the middle of a Rampage.
Lumi swallowed and cautiously took another step toward him. "Are you... okay?"
For several seconds, Evan continued staring at her as though he were trying to remember something that had been buried far too deeply inside his mind. Then, without warning, the corner of his lips lifted into a faint smile.
Lumi immediately stopped.
That smile was wrong.
She had seen Evan’s smile before, but this one carried none of that familiar warmth. It looked almost like he had finally remembered something he wasn’t supposed to remember.
"Lumi."
Hearing her name in his voice made her heart skip, but instead of reassuring her, it only made the strange feeling in her chest grow stronger. She couldn’t explain why, but every instinct she had was telling her that she shouldn’t get any closer.
"Why did you come here?"
Lumi hesitated before answering honestly. "Because... I need to pull you out."
The faint smile disappeared from Evan’s face.
For the first time, something changed in his yellow-hazel eyes, and Lumi could almost swear she saw a flicker of confusion before it was buried beneath something much darker.
"Pull me out?"
His voice sounded strangely distant, as though the words had come from somewhere far deeper than the figure standing before her.
Lumi nodded slowly. "Yes. You’re still in Rampage outside, and everyone is trying to stop you, but you haven’t come back yet. So I thought... maybe if I came here, I could find you."
Evan stared at her for a long moment before his gaze dropped to her trembling hands. "You think you can pull me out?"
"I don’t know." Lumi gave an awkward smile. "But I have to try, right?"
The electricity surrounding Evan suddenly became violent, spreading through the darkness like cracks appearing across a mirror. His expression twisted for the briefest moment, as though he were fighting against something only he could see.
Then he raised his eyes toward her again.
"Lumi..." His voice was quieter this time.
"If you stay here..." He paused, and the electricity around him suddenly flared violently, illuminating the darkness for a brief moment. "You might not be able to leave with me."
Lumi’s eyebrows raised in confusion.
"What do you mean?"
Evan didn’t answer immediately. Instead, he lowered his gaze, staring at the electricity crawling over his fingers as though he were watching something slowly slipping out of his control.
"This place isn’t meant for you."
Lumi frowned. "But I came here because you’re here."
"That’s exactly why." His gaze lifted again, and the yellow-hazel eyes that had been watching her so intently suddenly became much colder.
"The deeper you go into someone else’s mind, the harder it becomes to find your way back to your own."
Lumi’s expression slowly changed. "Then... how do I get you out?"
Evan stared at her for several seconds before suddenly tilting his head, a faint smirk appearing on his lips. "There is only one way..."
Lumi blinked and looked at him cautiously. "What... way?"
Evan’s lips curved into a faint smirk as he took a step closer. "You already know."
Lumi’s eyes widened slightly. "I... I do?"
He tilted his head, watching her reaction. "Skin-to-skin contact."
Lumi’s face immediately warmed.
"Ah..." She lowered her gaze, suddenly remembering what had happened before. "You mean... like last time? I can do that..."
Evan didn’t answer. He simply stepped closer, leaving almost no distance between them.
Lumi’s fingers curled nervously at her sides.
She could feel the warmth radiating from him despite the electricity constantly crackling around his body, and the closer he came, the harder it became for her to keep her thoughts from running wild.
"Do it..." His cold voice reached her ears.
Lumi gulped as she raised her gaze. Slowly raising her hands, she cupped his face and tiptoed to reach his height.
She hesitated for only a moment before leaning forward and giving him a quick peck on the lips.
Then she immediately pulled back, her face already burning. "There..."
Evan remained completely still.
Lumi blinked at him nervously, wondering if she had done something wrong.
Then his lips slowly curved upward. "Do you really think my horny rabbit will be satisfied with a childish kiss like that?"
Lumi’s eyes widened.
’Horny rabbit?! Why is he calling himself that?!’
Before she could retreat, Evan’s arm slipped around her waist and pulled her back toward him, his gaze lingering on her flushed face.
"Try again."
Lumi blinked in embarrassment, her mind racing as she tried to figure out what exactly he wanted from her this time.
"Are you... sure you are Evan Caesar?"
Evan’s eyebrow lifted.
Lumi immediately lowered her gaze again.
’He can’t be Evan. The Evan Caesar I know would never say something like that with such a straight face. Did the Rampage damage his brain?’
The corner of Evan’s lips twitched as though he had somehow guessed exactly what she was thinking. "I am."
Lumi looked up again, still unconvinced.
"Then..." She hesitated, her voice becoming even softer. "Why are you acting so strange?"
Evan’s smirk deepened, "Because you gave me a kiss that wouldn’t even satisfy a rabbit."
Lumi’s face turned even confused, "Which rabbit?"
Evan pointed his finger down, "This rabbit.’
