Fat and Ugly Villainess Wins Back Her Five Beast Husband
Chapter 204: Another Kind Of Food
After moving to the new location, no one in the Black Pig Tribe died anymore.
At last, the terrifying plague seemed to have been brought under control.
Henry couldn’t help but feel that he had married a lucky star. If it hadn’t been for Serena’s persistence and the strange but effective measures she had suggested, even more people in the Tribe might have died.
Because of Serena’s so-called "wise" measures, many members of the Black Pig Tribe had gradually begun to believe in her.
As a result, Serena’s position as the Chieftain’s Wife became increasingly secure.
In fact, she had become even more imposing than Lyra had once been in the Wolf Tribe.
Serena was very satisfied with this.
As expected, even after leaving the Wolf Tribe, she, Serena, could still live very well.
She had originally been worried that leaving the Wolf Tribe would cause her to lose everything. Instead, she had managed to gain an entirely new position.
However, there was soon another problem.
Food.
Because the Tribe had moved to a new location to avoid the plague, they could no longer hunt their usual prey without taking risks.
For this reason, Serena specifically ordered everyone to stop eating wild beasts.
Instead, they were to survive on wild fruits for the time being.
At first, the people of the Tribe could accept it.
After all, compared with losing their lives, eating a few wild fruits was nothing.
But after several days, everyone’s expressions began to change.
"Madam, how much longer do we have to eat these wild fruits?"
The beastman asking the question looked miserable.
Serena’s face had also turned green from eating wild fruits every day.
She had already grown tired of their sourness and sweetness, and sometimes merely looking at another fruit made her stomach churn.
But compared to dying, she felt that having a green face was nothing.
She glared at the beastman.
"If you want to die, you can stop eating wild fruits."
The beastman immediately shrank back.
Clearly, the Chieftain’s Wife used to be gentle!
Why had she become so frightening lately?
Seeing Serena’s anger, another beastman hurriedly explained, "Chieftain’s Wife, he didn’t mean it that way. It’s just that the beggars chicken you made last time was really delicious. He wanted to ask whether you could make something else tasty."
"Make food?"
Serena rolled her eyes inwardly.
She wasn’t Kaelira.
Why should she spend so much effort making delicious food for everyone?
Sora was the one who knew all sorts of strange recipes. Serena couldn’t possibly remember everything Sora had made, much less recreate them.
Of course, she couldn’t let anyone know what she was thinking.
So she forced a smile.
"What I know how to make mostly involves wild beasts, because that’s what we usually eat."
Hearing this, the beastman had no choice but to give up.
But inside, he couldn’t help sighing.
When would they be finished with these wild fruits?
He had been eating them until he felt nauseous.
The Chieftain’s Wife had clearly claimed before that she knew how to make all kinds of delicious food.
Yet apart from the beggars chicken she had made when they first met, they hadn’t seen her make anything else.
The people of the Black Pig Tribe were practically eating wild fruit until they wanted to vomit.
Meanwhile, the people of the Wolf Tribe had entered what could only be described as a culinary paradise.
How was Kaelira so good at cooking?
They had never known that fish could be prepared in so many different ways.
It could be grilled.
It could be boiled.
It could be pan-fried.
And every method produced a completely different flavor.
Even those strange snail-like creatures from the Deep Pool could be transformed into spicy sucked snails.
Then there were the green creatures Sora had called crayfish.
Once thrown over the fire and cooked, they turned bright red.
Sora called them fried crayfish.
After passing through her hands, even the strangest things became delicious.
The people of the Tribe almost sucked their fingers clean after every meal.
Some secretly lamented that if they had known the creatures in the water were so delicious, why had they spent so much effort hunting wild beasts before?
Hunting required strength, time, and considerable danger.
Catching things from the water was much easier.
Unfortunately, there were too many people in the Tribe.
If more than a hundred people kept catching fish, shrimp, snails, and crayfish every day, the Deep Pool would eventually be emptied.
Therefore, after leading the Tribe to eat various kinds of fresh water food for several days, Sora decided to take everyone into the jungle.
She intended to search for mountain goods.
As Sora led the group toward the dense forest, Colorful Sunset looked around curiously.
"Kaelira, are we going to look for wild fruits?"
After all, no matter how large the Deep Pool was, it couldn’t withstand more than a hundred members of the Tribe constantly catching fish and shrimp.
Seeing Sora leading them deeper into the forest, Sunset naturally assumed they were searching for more wild fruits.
Sora shook her head.
"Wild fruits aren’t that good to eat. Eating too many only fills your stomach with acid, and they don’t keep you full for very long."
She looked toward the ground ahead.
"I’m taking you to dig up something big."
"Something big?"
Everyone immediately became curious.
"What is it?"
Zainabu asked.
Sora deliberately kept them in suspense.
"You’ll know once we find it."
Everyone exchanged glances but followed obediently.
Over the past few days, Sora had already proven herself repeatedly.
At first, they had been curious whenever she introduced something new.
Then they had become surprised.
Now they were simply impressed.
Whatever Sora said was right.
Whatever she discovered was usually delicious.
Whatever she taught them could improve their lives.
Therefore, nobody argued anymore.
They simply followed.
Sora’s position within the Tribe had quietly risen.
She was now second only to Martin, the Tribe Chief.
And before Sora’s transformation, that position had belonged to Lyra.
Naturally, Lyra was not pleased.
Seeing Sora become more popular than herself made her increasingly petty.
Previously, the restriction preventing Lyra from leaving her home had been lifted largely because of Lucas’s intimidation.
But now that Sora’s several Beast Husbands weren’t nearby, Lyra felt much bolder.
She looked around the jungle and sneered.
"What big thing?"
"You, who usually can’t even be bothered to move, what good thing could you possibly find?"
"I think you’re just bluffing."
She crossed her arms.
"Besides, we travel through these woods all the time. If there were really something edible here, we would’ve found it already."
"There was no need for you to act so mysterious."
Then she pointed toward the forest.
"If you ask me, we should still pick red frost fruit. The red frost fruit this season is large and sweet."
Lyra had lived many more years than Sora.
How could she possibly know less about the forest than her daughter?
Although Lyra’s words were sharp, many beastmen secretly agreed with her.
During the famine, they had searched the jungle countless times.
Apart from wild fruits, they hadn’t found anything particularly useful.
Therefore, when Sora suddenly claimed she had found something valuable, some people couldn’t help wondering whether she was exaggerating.
Sora, however, didn’t bother responding to Lyra.
She simply continued walking.
There was no point arguing.
In a little while, Lyra would naturally know whether she was right.
Besides, Sora had no intention of wasting her breath trying to convince someone who had already decided not to believe her.
Sunset was the one who couldn’t stand it.
"Madam, red frost fruit is delicious, but it only grows during these few days. Once the season passes, they’re gone."
She glanced at Sora.
"Let’s just listen to Kaelira."
"That’s right. Let’s listen to Kaelira."
"Kaelira has never been wrong about food."
"Yes, let’s see what she found."
One person after another spoke up.
Lyra’s expression immediately became ugly.
What happened?
In the past, whenever she said something, these people would immediately agree.
Now they were actually contradicting her openly.
And all of it was because of Kaelira.
Lyra’s resentment deepened.
Fine.
She wanted to see exactly what Sora could find.
If Sora failed to find anything good, then she wouldn’t be able to blame Lyra for teaching her a lesson.
A person raised by that Black Bear simply wasn’t good enough.
Lyra followed behind Sora, watching her every movement.
At the same time, she carefully scanned the surrounding trees.
She didn’t believe there was anything better than red frost fruit in this season.
After Sora obtained flour, she rarely went deep into the woods anymore.
Usually, she only went out when she needed wild vegetables, spices, fruits, or some other ingredient.
But this time, she had a specific target.
Sora quietly activated the detection function of her Earth Ability.
The ability spread through the soil.
Following the system’s guidance, she continued forward.
Finally, she arrived at an area covered by lush green leaves.
Sora stopped.
The people behind her also stopped.
Lyra immediately snorted.
"Is this the big thing you were talking about?"
She looked at the ground.
There were only green leaves.
No fruit.
No obvious roots.
Nothing that looked remotely special.
"Only leaves and no fruit."
Lyra sneered.
"Don’t tell me you’re planning to make everyone follow you here just to eat leaves."
"Our Wolf Tribe is made up of carnivores, not herbivores."
Sunset also looked confused.
She couldn’t see anything unusual either.
Sora crouched down and gave Lyra an unimpressed look.
"Who told you I was looking for leaves?"
"If not leaves, then what?"
Lyra was stunned.
Even Sunset leaned closer.
Everyone looked at the patch of greenery.
There was nothing there except thick green leaves and stems.
Sora reached forward and pushed aside the emerald-green stalks.
Then she picked up a sturdy wooden stick.
With one hand, she held the leaves aside.
With the other, she began digging into the soil.
Scrape.
Scrape.
Scrape.
The stick broke through the upper layer of earth.
Everyone’s curiosity intensified.
"What is she digging for?"
"Could there really be something underneath?"
"Maybe it’s a root."
Lyra’s expression remained skeptical.
She didn’t believe Sora could possibly find anything extraordinary beneath such ordinary-looking plants.
Sora continued digging.
Her movements were steady.
Soon, the soil around the plant began to loosen.
She smiled.
"The treasure I’m looking for is buried underneath."
She glanced at the crowd.
"And it’s delicious whether steamed or boiled."
The moment those words fell, everyone’s eyes widened.
Something buried underground...
Something that could be steamed or boiled...
What exactly had Sora discovered?
Even Lyra couldn’t help staring at the patch of earth now.
For the first time, a trace of uncertainty appeared in her eyes.
Could there really be something edible beneath those leaves?
Sora’s wooden stick dug deeper.
The hidden treasure was about to reveal itself.
And when it did, Lyra’s face was destined to become even more interesting.
