Farming Family's Pocket Dimension: A Charmed Little Lady Comes to Farm
Chapter 391 The Wager
Prime Minister Su was the head of the Su Family. This marriage would benefit both of their families, so as long as Su Chen’s father had his wits about him, he would surely agree.
At this thought, Qin Ying straightened her spine.
’A powerful desire surged within her. I have to defeat Gu Fei. I must utterly crush her in front of Young Master Su!’
’She, too, wanted to see his eyes fill with stars whenever he looked at her.’
Qin Ying looked at Gu Fei and suddenly smiled. "Miss Gu, I’m afraid I don’t have the patience for chess today. Perhaps you should choose one of the other three events instead."
When Gu Fei fully registered Qin Ying’s words, her expression changed. She stared at Qin Ying for a long moment before finally forcing out three words, "You’re playing me?"
Seeing Gu Fei’s expression change, Qin Ying felt a surge of delight. "Of course not. You can always choose not to compete."
Gu Fei gripped her round fan, her knuckles turning white from the force.
’She had underestimated this Qin Ying.’
’As the granddaughter of Qinglian Academy’s Mountain Master, she was bound to be intelligent, genetically speaking. And in terms of education, she had undoubtedly received the very best this era had to offer.’
’That’s why she was able to turn the tables so quickly and put Gu Fei on the defensive.’
Gu Fei thought about how she had spent all this time painstakingly studying Qin Ying’s chess strategies. She had practically forgotten to eat or sleep, dedicating every moment to improving her skills. And in the end, it was all for nothing.
But could Gu Fei really refuse to compete?
She was already here. Even if there was only the slimmest of chances, she wouldn’t give up.
Gu Fei nodded slightly. "Miss Qin truly is the most talented lady in Ping’an City."
’Of the noble ladies of this era, she really only knew two. One was Shen Qingluan, a ruthless woman who had set a tiger on her the first time they met.’
’The other, Qin Ying, was no simple character either.’
’So it was true that high-born ladies all received an elite education.’
Gu Fei looked at Qin Ying coldly. "Miss Qin, if I choose one of the other events, you won’t have any more objections, will you?"
Qin Ying gave a reserved smile. "Of course not."
Gu Fei sneered. "I certainly hope Miss Qin is a woman of her word."
Qin Ying’s expression remained unchanged, as if she hadn’t detected the sarcasm in Gu Fei’s voice.
Gu Fei quickly composed herself. "Miss Qin, I have one condition. Before we compete, I want to see the acceptance letter from Qinglian Academy."
"Since this is a wager, the stakes should be on the table before we begin."
"After all, your credibility with me is nonexistent."
The corner of Qin Ying’s mouth twitched. "Fine. We’ll do it your way."
"But if I put up a stake and you have none, Miss Gu, wouldn’t that be unfair?"
Gu Fei looked at her. "What stake do you want?"
Qin Ying pressed her lips together, then suddenly stepped closer to Gu Fei and whispered in her ear, "My demand is simple. My family and Young Master Su’s are currently in marriage talks. If I win, you are to have no further contact with Young Master Su ever again."
"However, I must ask you not to speak of this to anyone."
Hearing this, Gu Fei finally understood the true reason for this competition.
She turned her head and glanced at Su Chen, who was standing in the crowd.
Su Chen was looking right back at her, his gaze filled with anxiety.
Although Su Chen couldn’t hear what they were saying, he could see Gu Fei’s expression change from confident to one of shock and surprise.
He didn’t know what could have possibly happened.
Gu Fei only glanced at Su Chen for a moment before turning back to Qin Ying and nodding. "Fine. I agree."
She looked at Qin Ying with a smirk. "I always keep my promises. You can rest assured, Miss Qin."
