「In the blink of an eye, it was the sixteenth of June.」

Sister Dan came over early in the morning. They had arranged yesterday to go to the Lotus Festival together.

After a short wait, Gu Fei emerged from the rear courtyard.

Sister Dan’s jaw dropped and stayed that way for a long moment. "My heavens, Little Fei, with a face like that, are you even letting the rest of us live?"

Gu Fei gave a helpless smile.

She had a little over ten thousand silver remaining. Steeling herself, she had bought another five thousand silver worth of jade from that Old Zheng. Her bowl had filled to the brim with Spiritual Liquid, and last night, Gu Fei had unhesitatingly drunk more than half of it.

After drinking the Spiritual Liquid, she had originally hoped her superpower would level up and she’d be able to fly.

But as it turned out, she still couldn’t fly. However, the range of her Instant Teleportation had increased from around fifty meters to one hundred.

The side effect was that she had become even more beautiful!

Her eyes and brows were darker, her lips a cherry red, and her skin was so perfect you couldn’t find a single flaw. A faint halo of light seemed to envelop her face.

Gu Fei was quite distressed. ’Honestly, in this era, beauty isn’t necessarily a blessing—it could very well be a disaster.’

She had to wake up early and apply a foundation several shades darker to conceal her appearance.

Gu Fei walked up and took Sister Dan’s arm. "Are you going by yourself? What about Brother Zhou? Is Little Cao not coming either?"

Sister Dan shook her head. "Your Brother Zhou is finally doing some proper work these days, so I’m letting him be. Besides, there are far too many pretty young ladies at the Lotus Festival. I’d rather he didn’t go."

"Little Cao was picked up by her grandparents to stay with them for a few days."

She covered her mouth and giggled. "Little Fei, you have no idea. There are so many handsome men at the Lotus Festival, all different types. The Lotus Festival is my absolute favorite."

"By the way, how many handkerchiefs and sachets did you bring?"

Gu Fei and Sister Dan boarded her family’s carriage. She had brought Yan’er with her today, and Yan’er carried a bundle containing handkerchiefs, a waterskin, snacks, and medicine pills for warding off heatstroke, all prepared for Gu Fei’s use.

Sister Dan had also brought a maid, and both maids sat outside on the carriage’s shafts.

Once in the carriage, Gu Fei waved the fan in her hand a few times. "Sachets and handkerchiefs?"

"I just brought a few handkerchiefs to wipe away sweat. It’s too hot; one won’t be enough."

As the carriage moved forward, Sister Dan giggled from inside. "HAHAHA, you just don’t get it, do you? Those handkerchiefs aren’t for wiping sweat! Later, if you see a handsome young master you like, you throw a handkerchief at him!"

"I brought two dozen handkerchiefs and ten sachets today. Want me to lend you some?"

Gu Fei’s eyebrow twitched. Two old stories came to mind.

One was about admirers filling a handsome man’s carriage with fruit, and the other was about Wei Jie, a man so beautiful he was supposedly stared to death.

’When ancient people went wild, they were just as fanatical as the fangirls of later generations.’

Gu Fei let out a laugh. "Sister Dan, does Brother Zhou know you’re like this?"

Sister Dan turned away with a playful huff. "I don’t care if he knows or not. He’s allowed to look at pretty young ladies, so why can’t I look at handsome men?"

After she spoke, Sister Dan noticed a drop of sweat on Gu Fei’s cheek. She took a handkerchief and dabbed it away, only to see an ivory-yellow stain left on the cloth.

Sister Dan stared at the stain for a moment, then looked back at the spot she had just wiped. The skin there was as smooth and radiant as snow, seemingly glowing from within.

Her eyes widened in realization as she looked at Gu Fei. "Oh my god, Little Fei, don’t tell me you put on makeup just to make your skin look darker?"

Gu Fei just smiled and said nothing.

Sister Dan was speechless for a long while, her heart aching with envy.

Most women would pile on thick layers of powder to look fairer and more beautiful, yet here was someone who thought she was *too* beautiful and used makeup only to hide her appearance.

’Sigh, comparing yourself to others is just asking for misery!’
