Xiao Yu was startled to see her, and his heart, betraying him once again, began to pound uncontrollably.

He involuntarily leaned forward. "What are you doing here again?"

Gu Fei grinned and retorted, "And why, good sir, are you always passing by here?"

Xiao Yu huffed. Stone, at his side, answered for him, "Our young master frequently travels to the military barracks outside the city. This is the path he must take."

Gu Fei raised an eyebrow. ’The military barracks?’

’Just what is this young master’s background?’

Xiao Yu looked at the notice on the wall and frowned. "You plan to be a shop hand here?"

Gu Fei shot him a sideways glance. ’Who are you looking down on? I’m going to be the CEO and CFO!’

This glance, filled with dissatisfaction and sassy pride, was automatically interpreted in Xiao Yu’s eyes as a flirtatious, affectionate gaze.

The tips of Xiao Yu’s ears turned red, and for a moment, he was completely flustered.

Stone, standing nearby, could barely watch. He had figured out the Young Master Heir’s feelings back on the night of the Lantern Festival.

A little dough figurine, treasured like it was the most precious thing in the world. Once they got home, he’d place it here, then move it there. Nowhere the Young Master Heir put it felt safe; he was afraid someone would touch it or that it would get lost.

In the end, he removed the small bamboo stick and put the figurine in his personal sachet.

Heh, don’t ask him how he knew.

Yesterday at the military barracks, he had seen the Young Master Heir take out that very sachet and gaze at it several times.

Tsk, tsk, tsk. Wasn’t he afraid he’d stare a hole right through it?

Stone blinked. "Miss Xiao Fei, you’ve taken over this shop and plan to be the boss, right?"

Gu Fei beamed and nodded. ’Stone is the perceptive one.’

Xiao Yu pretended not to care, but he pricked up his ears to listen.

Stone said with a smile, "Miss Xiao Fei, you must let me know in advance when you open for business. I’d like to send a plaque to congratulate you."

Gu Fei smiled. "Thank you, Brother Stone."

She tilted her head and looked at Xiao Yu. "Oh, by the way, I don’t believe I know your esteemed surname, sir?"

Xiao Yu’s face visibly darkened.

’Is she doing this on purpose, or does she really not know?’

’We’ve met so many times, yet she still doesn’t even know who I am!’

Gu Fei genuinely didn’t know. No one had ever told her.

Stone smiled. "My young master’s surname is Xiao."

Gu Fei nodded. "Well then, Mr. Xiao, take care." With that, she turned and went inside.

Xiao Yu stared at Gu Fei’s retreating back until she was out of sight. He then stared at the doorway for a good while longer before finally turning his horse and riding away.

Gu Fei was busy all day, only getting home around dinnertime.

Just after they finished eating, someone called from the gate. Lian’er ran to open it, and it was Aunt Liu.

Aunt Liu was all smiles, calling out from a distance, "Gu Er’s family! Is Little Fei home—"

Mrs. Chen went to greet her with a smile. "Sixth Aunt, you’re here! Please, come inside and sit."

Lian’er quickly went to brew some tea.

Aunt Liu walked in. "Ah, Little Fei, you’re here. I was just looking for you about something."

"What is it, Auntie?"

Aunt Liu plopped herself down on a stool. "I heard you’re opening an inn in the city and that you’re looking to hire a couple of older women to help out?"

Gu Fei instantly understood Aunt Liu’s reason for coming and nodded. "I am."

Aunt Liu patted her chest. "Well then, what do you think? Would I do?"

Gu Fei smiled sweetly. "If you come, Auntie, who will do the chores at your home?"

Aunt Liu replied heartily, "I’ve got two daughters-in-law at home! You think there won’t be anyone to do the work? I’m just idle at home anyway. If I can come out and earn a little money, every bit helps."

Gu Fei felt a bit troubled. ’If the shop is filled with relatives and acquaintances, they might be difficult to manage.’

Aunt Liu seemed to see Gu Fei’s hesitation. "Don’t you worry, Little Fei. This old woman, first off, I’m in good health. Second, I’m a hard worker who can do any kind of job. Don’t be afraid that your auntie will try to pull rank because of my age. If I do anything wrong, you just tell me straight. I promise I won’t say a single word against it."
