Chapter 373: Chapter 373: North Gate

Wolves and sheep. One is a carnivorous beast, the other a herbivore, yet they still have a lot in common.

The Sheep Leader’s food—Big Chuntun Tree Leaves, Green Light Perilla, edible pasture grass, and Pollution-free Spring Water—was all inside the territory. So, after discovering the fence didn’t separate it from its food, the Sheep Leader calmed down and happily dug in.

Although Sick Wolf was now an Evolutionary Wolf that couldn’t eat raw meat and could only survive on human-processed meat, most of what it ate was brought over by its companions. A smaller portion was earned by catching small animals like Evolutionary Snakes and Evolutionary Rats in the Third Territory and Zone Three of Mountain 49, which it then traded with Xiaqing.

There wasn’t enough prey within the Third Territory, so when Sick Wolf discovered the wire mesh fence gradually closing in and trapping it, it grew anxious.

At that moment, the carnivorous beast, raised in the Evolution Forest, bared its fangs, raised its sharp claws, and prepared to destroy the fence that stood between it and its prey.

"Second, no."

Xiaqing stepped forward and explained the importance of the fence to it with a serious expression. "I traded a lot of food for this fence. The Sheep Leader and I both need it for protection."

Sick Wolf might not have understood what Xiaqing was saying, but it understood the meaning behind her standing in front of the fence. It retracted its fangs and claws and took a few steps back, but its posture and gaze remained defiant.

The Evolutionary Wolf, which had nearly been tormented to death by parasites, and the only human it trusted were about to have a falling out over a fence.

Xiaqing wasn’t disappointed by Sick Wolf’s reaction. If any other creature dared to separate her from her food, she would be furious too.

"Second, look." Xiaqing walked a dozen or so meters east and stood before the North Gate. "This is a gate. You can enter and exit the territory from here from now on."

Having lived in Xiaqing’s territory for several months, Sick Wolf was no stranger to doors. But this iron-pipe "gate" was completely different from the front door of the house, so Sick Wolf didn’t move.

Xiaqing called over the grazing Sheep Leader to demonstrate to the two Evolutionary Animals how to use the gate. "This is an automatic dual-channel turnstile gate that I traded a fortune for. Watch."

The gate was equipped with a camera that could recognize features like faces, pupils, and height. When a human or Evolutionary Animal registered in the system entered the recognition zone, the gate would open.

The outer walls of important places in the Safe Zone were fitted with this type of gate. After deciding to install the wire mesh fence, Xiaqing had also decided to install a gate like this to make it convenient for Hu Zifeng’s team and the Wolf Group to come and go.

Xiaqing approached the gate. After the camera mounted on the frame scanned her facial and pupil features, it let out a "BEEP." The iron bars rotated, revealing an opening, and Xiaqing walked through it.

The Sheep Leader’s squinting eyes flew wide open. Sick Wolf, who was about to follow Xiaqing out of the enclosure, also walked over to observe the gate.

"BEEP."

The camera on the frame recognized that Xiaqing had entered the designated area, and the iron bars rotated again, opening the gate.

Xiaqing entered the territory and called to her companions, "Leader, Second, want to come give it a try?"

Sick Wolf’s furry face was full of vigilance. Xiaqing took out a block of compressed rations and coaxed the Sheep Leader in a soft, gentle voice:

"Leader, you’re the bravest, smartest sheep on Blue Star. If you can walk out of here, you’ll make new history for the Evolutionary Sheep of Blue Star. You’re the pride of the Sheep Clan, the pride of our Third Territory! Come on out. I’ll reward you with a block of compressed rations when you do. This is a new flavor, much better than the old ones."

The Sheep Leader, which had been watching the commotion with a blade of grass in its mouth, saw the compressed rations and immediately rushed to the gate with wide eyes. After the gate beeped open, the Sheep Leader charged out and received its reward.

After seeing that the Sheep Leader could also use the gate to get in and out, Sick Wolf went to the gate as well. The moment it opened, it dashed out and ran far away.

Xiaqing didn’t call it back. Instead, she led the Sheep Leader in and out of the North Gate repeatedly.

Once Sick Wolf was finally convinced that the gate wouldn’t block its passage and that it wouldn’t be penned in by the high fence, its anxiety subsided. It happily wagged its tail at Xiaqing a few times.

’That’s very dog-like.’

Xiaqing smiled and ruffled its head, explaining with words and gestures, "Second, go to the Wolf Cave and bring the Queen and Broken Waist over. I need to teach them how to use this gate."

Those two were Xiaqing’s big clients. Xiaqing needed their Yi Stones and couldn’t afford to lose them just because of a new gate.

Sick Wolf rubbed its body against Xiaqing’s leg, walked out through the new gate, crossed the isolation zone, and ran into Zone Three of Mountain 49.

Even though it was daytime, Xiaqing wasn’t worried about the Wolf Group being discovered by others.

It was currently the harvest and sowing season, so everyone was busy with no time to wander around.

With 250 refugees added to Territories One through Ten, the Danger Investigation Team was overloaded. So, after consulting with Luo Pei, Tan Junjie had temporarily assigned patrol duty for the Northern Isolation Zone, which bordered Mountain No. 49 and Territories Three, Four, Five, Six, and Seven, to the Green Dragon Team.

So, the investigation team wouldn’t be patrolling here for the next few days, making it very safe.

Sick Wolf soon returned with two Brain Domain Evolution Wolves. Xiaqing first demonstrated how to use the gate once, then had Sick Wolf demonstrate twice more. Afterward, she warmly greeted the two intelligent wolves, "Queen, Broken Waist, you two want to try? This gate is very safe. You can just use it to come and go from now on. It’s no trouble at all."

Xiaqing had already entered the detailed physical characteristics of these two wolves into the access control system. If they entered the Third Territory through this gate and moved around under the surveillance cameras, the system wouldn’t send Xiaqing an alert.

Under Xiaqing’s expectant gaze, the Head Wolf in the middle of the isolation zone suddenly accelerated, charging forward. When it was four or five meters from the wall, it leaped, easily clearing the fence that had cost Xiaqing 250,000 points to build, and landed steadily inside the Third Territory.

Broken Waist Wolf followed close behind, getting in the same way. Then, the two intelligent wolves looked up at Xiaqing in unison, their expressions calm.

...

...

...

’Damn it!’

Xiaqing didn’t want to deal with these two wolves who refused to play by the rules. She turned to patrol her territory. She had to kill a few Evolutionary Worms, catch a few Evolutionary Snakes, or dig up a couple of Evolutionary Rat nests to vent her frustration.

"BEEP."

After walking about a hundred meters, Xiaqing heard the automatic gate make a sound. Too lazy to go back and check, she pulled out her phone and saw a notification on the screen:

Broken Waist Wolf exited the Third Territory via the North Gate on November 9, 17:21.

’Broken Waist Wolf really is a smart one!’ The knife-shouldering Xiaqing was just about to put her phone away when she heard another "BEEP." The phone screen quickly refreshed with a new notification:

Broken Waist Wolf entered the Third Territory via the North Gate on November 9, 17:22.

Then:

Broken Waist Wolf exited the Third Territory via the North Gate on November 9, 17:22.

And then:

Broken Waist Wolf entered the Third Territory via the North Gate on November 9, 17:23.

And then again:

Broken Waist Wolf exited the Third Territory via the North Gate on November 9, 17:24.

...

...

...

’That damn wolf!’

Xiaqing gritted her teeth. She wanted to kill that wolf!
