Chapter 132: Chapter 132: Venting Anger

Chu Luo hurriedly chased after them. Taking advantage of the distraction, the salesperson quickly rang up Deng Yuyuan’s purchases.

Looking at the necklace, Deng Yuyuan suddenly looked up and asked, "Did those three just run out without paying?"

The salesperson looked at her in surprise before immediately catching her drift. Glancing over at the chaotic three-person drama that had escalated with Chu Luo’s arrival, she quickly made up her mind. "Would you like me to wrap this up for you?"

"Yes, please," Deng Yuyuan nodded. "And could you grab one of those scarves over there for me as well? I’ll put it on right away."

"Right away!" The salesperson enthusiastically bustled about, waiting on her hand and foot.

Wu Ying was rendered completely speechless. The last time she saw someone spend money this extravagantly was Bai Miaomiao. But had her neighbor—who lived in the exact same humble alleyway as her—gotten this wealthy so quickly? And the very first thing she did with her wealth was help her.

When one person struck it rich, their whole inner circle benefited. The ancient proverb certainly didn’t lie!

Deng Yuyuan bundled herself up. While the trio was still in the heat of their argument, she casually wheeled herself away. Once she reached a different section of the store, she parked her wheelchair and explained to Wu Ying, "One of the people arguing over there is a friend of mine. She’s getting ganged up on, so I need to go help her. You and Tuantuan wait here for a bit."

Her arms full of shopping bags, Wu Ying immediately nodded, though she looked a bit nervous. "It’s hard for me to stand up right now, so I might not be able to keep a close eye on Tuantuan..."

Deng Yuyuan patted Tuantuan’s head. "Tuantuan won’t run off, right?"

"Right!" Tuantuan grabbed his mother’s hand and placed it back on top of his head.

"You can read a book if you get bored." Leaving that hasty remark behind, Deng Yuyuan hurried off.

If she didn’t hurry, she was genuinely worried Wei Yin would finish arguing before she got there.

By the time she arrived, the confrontation was indeed nearing its end. There was Wei Yin, swallowing her anger; Chu Luo, outwardly docile but with a triumphant glint in her eyes; and Zhao Mingzhao, the "apologetic-to-the-whole-world" good guy whose eyes swam with guilt whether he looked at Chu Luo or Wei Yin.

Wei Yin remained where she stood while the other two were just about to step back inside the store. Not wanting to cause any trouble for the salesperson, Deng Yuyuan quickly spoke up.

"Miss, were you the one who wanted this necklace?"

Wei Yin looked toward the source of the voice and saw a familiar-looking woman bundled up so thoroughly that her facial features were entirely obscured.

It was her muse!

She would recognize Deng Yuyuan’s silhouette even if the woman were turned to ashes. With those elegant curves, she would look stunning even wearing a potato sack. Even with that breathtakingly flawless face hidden away, she remained utterly dazzling.

Chu Luo and Zhao Mingzhao also turned to look.

Hearing how Deng Yuyuan addressed her, Wei Yin instantly knew she didn’t want to expose the fact that they knew each other, especially with Zhao Mingzhao and Chu Luo present. She played along and replied, "I did like it. Did you buy it?"

"You all left the counter for quite a while, so I asked if I could buy it, assuming they didn’t want it anymore," Deng Yuyuan said. "The salesperson sold it to me, but I actually only bought this necklace because I had my eye on the complimentary bracelet. So I figured, since I’ve already got what I want, I might as well play the fool who buys the expensive item just to keep the freebie, and give the necklace to you."

Zhao Mingzhao stepped forward, his tone urgent. "Miss, could you perhaps give the necklace to me? I can pay you for it."

Deng Yuyuan shook her head. "When I came back out, this young lady was the first person I ran into. That means she and I are fated to cross paths today, which is why I’m gifting it to her. You two share no such fate with me, so I won’t give it to you."

Zhao Mingzhao looked at Wei Yin.

Deng Yuyuan added, "Miss, if you take my gift just to regift it to them to score points, then I won’t give it to you at all."

Wanting to explain their special circumstances to Deng Yuyuan but afraid that Wei Yin might ruin things, Zhao Mingzhao stepped up to physically separate the two women before continuing his persuasion.

Wei Yin crossed her arms, coldly watching him engage in his futile efforts.

Sure enough, the moment Deng Yuyuan heard him out, she started shouting, "Back off, back off, back off!" She retreated backward, refusing to let him get any closer.

"Running into you two today is seriously bad luck! I finally try to do a good deed for once, and I get guilt-tripped for it. You two—especially you, a grown man—are just using your size and strength to bully a weak woman like me. Oh, how pitiful! If my husband hadn’t died so young, I wouldn’t have been reduced to this state, getting bossed around and harassed just for trying to give something away. You’re just picking on me because I don’t have a man to protect me! If I don’t give it to you, are you going to rob me in broad daylight?"

Deng Yuyuan sounded more and more distressed as she spoke, her voice even choking with sobs.

Her thinly veiled sarcasm left Zhao Mingzhao and Chu Luo’s faces flashing through shades of green and white.

Chu Luo tugged at Zhao Mingzhao’s sleeve and whispered, "Forget it, Mingzhao. Let’s just go. This lady obviously has some misunderstanding about us, so there’s no point in saying more. I don’t really like it that much anymore anyway."

She had only claimed to like it to spite Wei Yin in the first place. A jade necklace wasn’t like a gold one; it was much more troublesome to liquidate for cash. Since there was no advantage to be gained here anymore, she decided it was best to leave.

She felt she was the one having bad luck today! She had intended to put Wei Yin in her place, but some random woman had appeared out of nowhere to ruin her plans. It was a good thing the woman’s husband was dead! Hopefully, he would never be reincarnated!

Zhao Mingzhao sighed. "Little Luo, you really are so understanding."

Once the two of them left, Wei Yin looked at Deng Yuyuan and said softly, "Thank you, Xiao Yuan."

"I feel like... I don’t really like him that much anymore. Am I really going to stay entangled like this for the rest of my life?" Wei Yin’s eyes were filled with pain. "He cares for Chu Luo in every possible way. He’s Chu Luo’s perfect husband now."

Wei Yin sounded incredibly disheartened. From Chu Luo’s perspective, Zhao Mingzhao was indeed a good man. He would steadfastly choose her, always consider things from her point of view, and constantly stand by her side. The scales would always tip in her favor.

Deng Yuyuan fastened the necklace around her neck. "We’ll talk when we get back. Right now, we still have to pretend we don’t know each other.

"He isn’t Chu Luo’s perfect husband. When he meets the next woman who moves his heart, he’ll have other options. His love is real, but it’s fleeting," Deng Yuyuan said, looking at Wei Yin’s neck with satisfaction. The necklace suited her perfectly.

"If only he had made things clear to me..."

"How could he? When he has the chance to two-time and enjoy the spectacle of two women fighting over him, why would he say no?"

Wei Yin froze. It turned out Zhao Mingzhao hadn’t changed at all; she simply hadn’t seen his true character clearly until now.

"Before I... before I completely let him go, I want to make him regret it," Wei Yin firmly whispered her decision to Deng Yuyuan.

Today, when Deng Yuyuan stood by her side and protected her, Wei Yin finally realized that the boy from all those years ago was never coming back. She couldn’t keep drowning in the past, obsessing over a tenderness that had long since disappeared.

She would be a free and untethered woman just like Deng Yuyuan! Besides, she hadn’t felt it before when there was no comparison, but now, looking back at Zhao Mingzhao’s supposedly affectionate gaze, Wei Yin found herself much more captivated by Deng Yuyuan’s melancholic eyes.

Deng Yuyuan gave her a thumbs-up and waved goodbye.

Every girl who encountered a scumbag would want to vent her frustrations and get even.
