Farm System, Baby, and a Fortune: My '70s Divorce
Chapter 121: Meeting Meng Deyin
Chapter 121: Chapter 121: Meeting Meng Deyin
Deng Yuyuan: ???
[She is the female CEO the heroine meets when she grows up and starts working in Beijing. She is extremely capable. Even though she only has a middle school education, she achieved top sales performance right after joining the company. She has an immense talent for business. In just one year, she revitalized a branch company that was on the verge of bankruptcy, and by the age of thirty, she became the CEO of the head office.]
[If it weren’t for the fact that she is a person who repays kindness—choosing to stay out of gratitude for the company’s recognition of her talent rather than leaving to strike out on her own—her achievements wouldn’t be any less than those of the self-made business tycoons in the original novel.]
The domineering female CEO of the future was, at this moment, just a pitiful little girl who wanted to give up her medical treatment over a few tens of thousands of yuan.
"Did her foot injury heal in the original novel?" Deng Yuyuan only cared about this.
[When she made her appearance in the original novel, she was already wearing a prosthetic limb.]
Deng Yuyuan patted Wu Ying’s head. Seeing that the little girl was left speechless, she turned around to go pay the medical bills. She felt much more at ease covering the expenses now. The future female CEO would definitely have the money to repay the loan.
"When I first met Wu Ying, why didn’t you remind me of her identity?" Deng Yuyuan was a bit puzzled. If the AI customer service had told her earlier, why would she have racked her brains figuring out what business to start? She could have just opened a large-bowl tea stall with Wu Ying. She had top-quality tea leaves and capital on hand; why worry about the business failing?
[I mentioned this a long time ago. To prevent players from stealing opportunities, no hints will be given for certain plot characters. Right now, even if I didn’t tell you about her character achievements, Wu Ying is already completely devoted to you, Player.]
Right, what an absolute masterclass in hindsight.
Wu Ying watched Deng Yuyuan leave. Her pounding heart could no longer be concealed. Her timid eyes, carrying a devout admiration and attachment, finally dared to openly stare at Deng Yuyuan’s retreating figure. At that moment, Deng Yuyuan’s silhouette occupied Wu Ying’s entire field of vision.
She had never thought that she would see the day she received treatment, let alone that this kindness would come from a stranger she hadn’t known for long. It was like a dream. In her most desperate and painful moment, a god had descended to save her believer.
Thinking of the medical fees, Wu Ying’s smile froze. It was an astronomical bill to her. Would Deng Yuyuan one day regret investing so much in her and grow to resent her?
Human affections and aversions always shifted too quickly. Just like her biological parents, who had promised to treat her well, but ended up driving her away like garbage. Her foot injury had also been sustained during that time. To sever their relationship, they had given her ten thousand yuan. Wu Ying initially spent five thousand on her foot, only to discover that the medical treatment was like a bottomless pit.
Now, even if it was a bottomless pit, someone was helping her fill it.
Deng Yuyuan collected the payment receipt, glad she had the foresight to bring Wu Ying to a hospital renowned for its orthopedics department.
[Player, do not turn around to go back to Wu Ying. Keep walking forward.]
Deng Yuyuan calmly followed the AI customer service’s instructions, her footsteps not pausing in the slightest.
[Go hide in the women’s restroom. I think I saw Meng Deyin in that direction.]
That was terrible luck.
[Holy crap! Player, Meng Deyin is charging straight toward you! The people around him are trying to hold him back, which buys you a little time. Don’t go to the women’s restroom. Turn left—there’s a small door there.]
[Go out through the small door. Thermal detection shows no one is there. Although you could gamble on whether Meng Deyin would be shameless enough to force his way into the women’s restroom, it’d be too easy to cause a humiliating scene. The small door is better. With no one around, it won’t matter even if the two of you argue loud enough to bring the roof down.]
Deng Yuyuan changed direction as instructed. Meng Deyin had tracked her down much faster than she had anticipated. However, this worked out too.
A dark glint flashed in Deng Yuyuan’s eyes. If he had found her a year from now, irrefutable evidence would leave her with no way to argue her way out. But right now... she had plenty of room to maneuver. Once she stalled Meng Deyin for a little longer and entered the confidential experimental project, she wouldn’t have to worry anymore.
It was still drizzling outside, and Deng Yuyuan hadn’t brought an umbrella. She folded the receipt and tucked it into her inner coat pocket. She had only taken a few steps before someone grabbed her wrist.
Deng Yuyuan struggled for a moment but couldn’t break free. Meng Deyin’s grip was incredibly strong; it was obvious the man was furious. With so many prying eyes in the hospital, if she actually injured him, the Meng family wouldn’t let her off the hook.
"Do you really hate seeing me that much?" the man’s suppressed, angry voice rang out from behind her.
Deng Yuyuan slowly turned her head. The man’s gaze finally landed on her face. He greedily traced her features, his rationality teetering on the edge of collapse.
[The Meng family members and bodyguards seem to know that Meng Deyin is chasing you. They didn’t follow him but are instead standing guard at the small door, acting like bouncers to prevent innocent passersby from stumbling in and interrupting your passionate lovers’ spat.]
"Stop using such egregiously embarrassing adjectives," Deng Yuyuan shot back.
Knowing that no one had followed them, Deng Yuyuan’s arrogance instantly returned. She pried Meng Deyin’s right hand open, only to realize that his left arm was in a cast. Meng Deyin tried to step forward again but was shoved hard by Deng Yuyuan.
Meng Deyin’s rationality completely dissolved in the light drizzle. Furious, the smile on his face nonetheless grew wider. "Is it fun playing me for a fool? To hide from me, you don’t even care about your own body?"
Braving the man’s oppressive presence, Deng Yuyuan’s tone suddenly softened. "Are you out of your mind? Why would I hide from you? We agreed on a one-year pact, but you broke the promise first and came looking for me."
Meng Deyin let out a cold sneer. He opened an umbrella and tilted it toward Deng Yuyuan. "If I didn’t come looking for you, how would I know you were lying to me? If I had waited a year, you would have vanished without a trace by then."
Deng Yuyuan’s gaze was condemning. "In a year, I would have bought a train ticket back to our agreed location to find you, of course. But now I think that the one-year pact might not be necessary anymore. I don’t want a partner who is paranoid and untrusting."
[The thief crying ’stop thief’—what a classic case of turning the tables.]
Meng Deyin looked at her. His falcon-like gaze carried a scrutinizing, almost gentle quality that nonetheless made her hair stand on end, like a venomous snake slithering over dead leaves. Deng Yuyuan fearlessly met his gaze, her face also showing a hint of anger.
Meng Deyin failed to spot any guilt or flaws on her face, and his attitude finally softened. "Give me another chance, okay? ...I’m just so happy to see you here. I felt that being apart for a year was just too long. Since you’ve also come to Beijing, we can try seeing how things go between us."
A sudden realization flashed through Meng Deyin’s mind. His gaze grew deep, carrying a touch of suspicion. "By the way, why did you come to Beijing?"
He had been searching for her in Deng Yuyuan’s hometown, even combing through every nearby mountain peak. It wasn’t until he accidentally fractured his arm while searching a cave that he had it stabilized at a local hospital before returning to Beijing for further treatment.
He simply couldn’t accept the possibility of his arm suffering permanent damage.
