Chapter 115: Chapter 115: Different Timelines

[The Wei family seems to like you even more now, Player.]

"I can’t help it. I’m just universally loved."

Deng Yuyuan carried Tuantuan away. The little toddler nestled in her arms, singing a self-composed song about little chicks. The children had agreed to go buy chicks together tomorrow afternoon.

The next morning, after sending a letter and a parcel to Dazhang Village, as well as letters and Beijing local specialties to the educated youths who had gone off to college, Deng Yuyuan dropped Tuantuan off at the Wei family’s home again. She then returned to the university and buried herself in the library.

The library boasted a rich collection of books. Deng Yuyuan first glanced at the catalog. The historical development of this world was largely the same, except for one thing—the two World Wars.

Deng Yuyuan didn’t believe it. She chose to comb through every history book.

Eventually, she had to believe it.

This world had never experienced a World War!

Without the devastation of global warfare, technology had advanced at breakneck speed. However, localized invasions and civil wars had not been erased from history, leading to a further widening of the gap between domestic and foreign development.

[The national destinies of various countries are unbalanced, which is why Fubao was born. She is a person of immense luck. The country and the people she loves will also flourish in the future.]

Deng Yuyuan was more concerned about something else. "If Tuantuan is using her own luck to feed the outside world, will it have any negative effects on her?"

[No. She has been a good person for ten lifetimes. She is here purely to enjoy life in this one.]

Deng Yuyuan understood perfectly—that meant there *were* minor effects. After all, she had never heard of someone meant to "enjoy life" being reincarnated into a poor peasant family in a remote area rather than a fabulously wealthy, aristocratic household.

[...Small, humble families don’t have the scheming and backstabbing of wealthy clans.]

"She could have been reincarnated as the only daughter of a rich and powerful family, with parents who struggled to have a second child," Deng Yuyuan analyzed calmly.

[Ah, yes, yes, yes. You’re so smart. You’re out here openly trash-talking the Heavenly Dao in broad daylight. If a lightning bolt strikes you down later, it’ll take me down with you!]

In reality, this world had not yet formed a true Heavenly Dao. However, a world derived from a novel was still in a chaotic stabilization period. If Deng Yuyuan pointed out that the universally loved, lucky female lead wasn’t actually genuinely favored by the world, it would be equivalent to discovering a massive bug.

The doubts Deng Yuyuan had harbored before were all resolved. No wonder the advanced theories and related papers she had proposed earlier were understood, adopted, and put into research. The scientific reserves of this world had already fast-forwarded by several years, providing a foundation for implementation. Looking at Deng Yuyuan’s vision for the future, the experts naturally didn’t think it was an impossible fantasy.

Heaven was helping her! Deng Yuyuan revealed a genuine smile. Without a period of turmoil, both academics and the economy would now show an upward trend, drastically shortening the time cost by several years.

The development plans originally slated for a few years down the line could now be brought forward.

The small house she rented when she first arrived in Beijing could serve as an initial starting point for her business. She needed to figure out what to sell. Although many modern goods would still be highly sought after in this era, she had to consider the massive differences in raw material and transportation costs between the two time periods.

As for Bai Miaomiao... even though that little couple kept their distance in public to avoid suspicion, they couldn’t hide from Deng Yuyuan’s cheat-like sharp hearing and keen eyesight. Her romantic interest happened to be a radio technology major as well. Deng Yuyuan didn’t know if Bai Miaomiao had sought him out after their first meeting before the school term began, or if she already had him before that day. Either way, they were up to no good.

Deng Yuyuan had already prepared a backup plan. After getting the Jade Pendant Space around her neck, she stored all important experimental data inside it. The notes and private reports left in the laboratory were entirely filled with falsified data.

She simply loved setting traps from the shadows without lifting a finger, watching them swallow a bitter pill and suffer in absolute silence.

After running through all these matters in her mind, she noticed it was getting late. It was the perfect time to pick up Tuantuan and maybe even snag a free meal.

They said they were going to buy little chicks, but they actually bought three large hens. In the short term, they could be raised as pets for the children; in the long term, they could be stewed for soup.

The three little ones had been busy all day building nests for the three hens under the nanny’s supervision. They were all covered in dirt and grime. When Deng Yuyuan arrived, they were still wiping each other’s faces and washing their hands.

Even when it was time to leave after dinner, Tuantuan was still reluctant to go, chatting with each hen for a long time. Wei’s mother took the opportunity to suggest that the two nannies could pick Tuantuan up from Jinghua University tomorrow. That way, Tuantuan could continue bonding with the three hens; otherwise, by the time she visited next week, the hens might not recognize her anymore. If Deng Yuyuan didn’t have time, they could send Tuantuan back. Since it was unsafe at night, Mr. Wei could drive her home.

The last few words from Wei’s mother struck a deep chord in Tuantuan’s heart. Unable to accept the thought of her chicken friends forgetting her, she anxiously draped herself over Deng Yuyuan’s shoulder, begging for permission to come back tomorrow.

With the two nannies and Mr. Wei handling the pick-up and drop-off, Deng Yuyuan simply couldn’t resist the temptation.

Having Tuantuan accompany her to class every day, or letting Chu Tiankuo take her around the university to play, was nowhere near as good as letting Tuantuan interact with small animals alongside other children.

"Alright," Deng Yuyuan agreed. "You have to listen to the uncles and aunts tomorrow. If Mommy finds out you’re being a bad kid outside, your little bottom is going to get a spanking."

Tuantuan immediately stood up straight, reeling in the wildness she had let loose during playtime, and obediently promised, "Tuantuan will be good. I won’t be a bad kid."

Deng Yuyuan patted her back. "I see your determination. Now soften up again; you’re too stiff to hold properly like this."

After Deng Yuyuan and her daughter left, Wei Shu quietly stepped forward and held Wei’s mother’s hand. Turning his head to the side, he whispered to his mother, "Why did Tuantuan agree to come play tomorrow as soon as you said that?"

Wei’s mother’s eyes softened. Taking Wei Qi’s hand with her other hand, she explained the reason to Wei Shu while leading the two children back into the house.

In the days that followed, Deng Yuyuan felt as if she had returned to the Knowledge Youth Institute. She woke up early and stayed up late every day. All she had to do was entrust Tuantuan to others, leaving her free to attend classes and study. During her free time when she didn’t have classes, she slipped away to the streets near the alleys to observe the street vendors.

The privatization of shops was still in progress, but the number of roadside vendors was increasing by the day.

Deng Yuyuan had no intention of relying on the Wei family to start her business. Without any background to lean on, she first turned her sights toward the underdeveloped areas on the outskirts of Beijing.

She took the initiative to find Jiang Hua and learned that his main business involved transporting goods from neighboring cities to sell in Beijing. Given the difference in prices between the two cities, there was a substantial profit to be made.

Compared to Zhang Ci Hao’s previous reselling operations in town, Jiang Hua hadn’t gotten to know any prominent figures in Beijing. He could only take risks on his own, operating on a small scale while facing the constant threat of being ripped off by other black market dealers.

Jiang Hua came from an impoverished background. He had relied on profiteering to support his studies for the college entrance examination, eventually earning admission into Jinghua University. He lacked neither intelligence nor emotional quotient; all he lacked was an opportunity.
