Farm System, Baby, and a Fortune: My '70s Divorce
Chapter 113: A Bunch of Little Geniuses!
Chapter 113: Chapter 113: A Bunch of Little Geniuses!
Tuantuan shook her head. "Tuantuan has a dad, sister. The ones who should be sad aren’t Tuantuan, but your parents. You’re so old, yet you’re not only impolite, but you don’t even know that Tuantuan has a dad. You’re so silly."
Tuantuan explained to her in a soft, sweet voice, "Every little kid needs a mommy and a daddy to be born. Even kids from single-parent families have mommies and daddies."
Bai Miaomiao’s face stiffened.
The Wei grandparents laughed heartily. "Our Tuantuan is such a smart little treasure!"
Mr. Wei and Wei’s mother also broke into smiles. "Kids just say whatever comes to mind. Please don’t take it to heart."
Mr. Bai and Mrs. Bai looked at Tuantuan with some displeasure. "You can’t always spoil a child. She offended Miao Miao just now, and while our family won’t make a fuss about it, it won’t be good if she angers someone she shouldn’t when she’s out and about in the future."
"Tuantuan was just telling the truth. Does that count as offending someone?" Wei Shu asked them. "It’s just as they say—foolish elders get jealous when they see smart younger kids, and then they’ll use any means necessary to suppress them."
Tuantuan nodded. Brother Xiao Shu was a genius!
Wei Qi stopped his younger brother. "Little Shu, you shouldn’t be so blunt. They’ll fly into a humiliated rage."
Tuantuan continued to nod. Brother Xiaoqi was a genius too!
The Bai family had indeed successfully flown into a humiliated rage. Everyone still wore stiff smiles on their faces, but it seemed like fury was burning in their eyes.
Since Wei Qi and Wei Shu were descendants of the Wei Family, Mr. Bai and Mrs. Bai wouldn’t say much about them, so their gazes fell back onto Tuantuan.
Just as they were about to speak, Wei’s grandfather spoke up. "If your Bai Family came here today just to give a little kid a hard time, then our Wei Family will have to ask you to leave. A group of adults bickering with young children over every little thing—if word gets out, I wonder whose reputation will suffer."
Wei’s grandmother added, "My husband and I practically watched Deng Yuyuan grow up. She’s our goddaughter. If I hear any more foul rumors, consider it an act of opposition against the Wei Family."
Deng Yuyuan had gone upstairs by herself, leaving her child at the dining table. Part of the reason was that she thought the guests wouldn’t pick on a child, and another part was that she trusted the Wei Family to protect Tuantuan.
If they had truly allowed Tuantuan to be bullied into a bad mood today, how could Deng Yuyuan ever feel so at ease again?
No matter how busy Deng Yuyuan was, she would never neglect Tuantuan’s education. If Deng Yuyuan really believed their nonsense and carved out more time to take care of Tuantuan herself, how would their Little Shu ever get a chance to spend time with her?
The Wei Family understood clearly that Deng Yuyuan brought Tuantuan over every week out of respect for the Wei grandparents. Plus, the children played well together, and the Wei Family could help her babysit. However, she herself didn’t really support Tuantuan forming too deep a bond with the Wei brothers. Even the young Wei Shu could sense this attitude. Despite fearing nothing in heaven or on earth, he was firmly kept in check by Deng Yuyuan.
He had no choice. His favorite Tuantuan was still in Deng Yuyuan’s hands, so he obeyed Deng Yuyuan unconditionally.
If Deng Yuyuan were given just one more day to take care of the child, she could take Tuantuan to the park or playground to make friends freely. Kids were forgetful; Tuantuan would leave Wei Shu in the dust in an instant.
Mr. Wei and Wei’s mother stepped in to smooth things over. "We’re so sorry, but it seems today really isn’t a good time to talk business. The kids are still here, so we’ll see you out first. Let’s reschedule for another time, alright?"
Mr. Wei stood up and politely saw them out.
"So clueless. Coming to our door to discuss a partnership and deciding to make things difficult for our child," Wei’s mother said, shaking her head. "They don’t seem to have a clear head on their shoulders. The Bai Family can’t handle the heavy responsibility of being a leader."
Mr. Bai and Mrs. Bai thought they could leverage their childhood neighborly ties and their status as Mr. Wei’s elders to throw their weight around, but they had severely miscalculated.
The Wei Family might lose some of their principles when it came to relatives, but neighbors hardly counted as relatives. Besides, even back when they were neighbors, the relationship between the Wei Family and the Bai Family had only been average.
Mr. Wei was currently serving in the investigation and research team of the Reform Office. He was primarily responsible for economic system reform, which was why he needed a few businessmen to take the lead and set an example. Those chosen would act as experimental guinea pigs, but they would also be pioneers who could seize a head start.
Tuantuan wasn’t affected by Bai Miaomiao’s words at all. After finishing her meal, she climbed down from her stool, ran into the kitchen, stepped on a small wooden step stool, and tossed her little wooden bowl into the sink to wait for the nanny to wash it.
At the Wei Family’s home, Tuantuan didn’t need to wash dishes. Her mother had told her that she was a guest, and guests visiting a home needed to be polite and well-mannered; they didn’t have to do chores.
Wei Shu followed behind her to put his bowl away. "Is your mother going to find you a new dad?"
Tuantuan shook her head. "Tuantuan doesn’t know."
"If your mother wants to find you a new dad, you can come to me," Wei Shu said. "I’ll ask my parents to help introduce someone. They know a lot of rich people. If your mother marries one of them, you can go live a good life, too."
"But Tuantuan is already living a good life right now," Tuantuan said, not understanding. "If mommy gets married, Tuantuan won’t have a mommy anymore, and Tuantuan will have to live a hard life."
"You’ll obviously go with your mom," Wei Shu explained to her.
Tuantuan was a bit unhappy as she recalled the time they went to the Deng family’s home and had to sleep over. "Tuantuan and mommy have two... no, three homes. Why do we have to go live in someone else’s house? Tuantuan doesn’t want a new dad. Tuantuan just wants to live in her own home."
"What about my house? Do you want to live here?" Wei Shu pulled up the little toddler, who had a habit of squatting on the ground whenever she got angry. Originally, she would have plopped right down on her bottom, but lately, Deng Yuyuan had set more rules for Tuantuan, including not flopping down wherever she pleased and prioritizing steadiness over falling when walking or running.
Tuantuan would take her afternoon naps at the Wei Family’s home. At first, they had planned for the kids to sleep together, but to their surprise, Tuantuan already had a sense of gender awareness and felt that boys and girls shouldn’t sleep together. To respect little Tuantuan’s thoughts, one of the Wei Family’s guest rooms had been transformed into a pink and tender space, filled with all sorts of cute plushies and toys. It looked just like Tuantuan’s bedroom, though the bed was a larger double bed just in case Deng Yuyuan also came to sleep there.
"If mommy stays, Tuantuan will stay too. Tuantuan doesn’t want to sleep alone at night," Tuantuan gave her answer without hesitation. "The first time Tuantuan stayed at someone else’s house, Tuantuan slept with Fubao! Today, Tuantuan still has to write a letter to Fubao. Mommy said she’ll take Tuantuan to buy stamps and mail it tomorrow."
"Who is Fubao?" For the first time, Wei Shu felt a sense of crisis.
Tuantuan was already walking back. "When Brother Xiaoqi finishes eating, let’s draw together! Can you lend Tuantuan your colored pencils? Fubao is Tuantuan’s best, best, best friend. Tuantuan promised to remember her forever."
Wei Shu felt a twinge of jealousy and stood rooted to the spot. If Fubao was her best friend, then what was he? As an older brother, he could let Tuantuan have her way with anything else, but on this matter, he absolutely would not compromise!
