Chapter 1757 - 1756: Disband the Guard Team
Chapter 1757: Chapter 1756: Disband the Guard Team
“You should first consult with them, ask where they want to go, and then record their responses and give them to me. If it’s suitable, I will approve it,” Yang Wenxiao said.
Qiao Xiaomai agreed.
After leaving the Imperial Palace and returning to the Qiao Residence, she called the Guard Team together and asked them one by one.
The happiest about the Guard Team being disbanded was Tong Sanlang. He sat nearby with a pen, personally recording everything.
These two hundred people had previously learned medical skills from Bei Lingsu. They weren’t particularly skilled, but they were capable enough to work as ordinary doctors. However, most of them came from the Imperial Guards and Divine Crossbow Team, and last year, many of them had become Yang Wenxiao’s personal guards. Now that the Guard Team was being disbanded, they all chose to go back to being guards.
Hai Feng had personally traveled south with Yang Ye before. Among these men, he was the one most deeply attached to Qiao Xiaomai.
Although this group had been handpicked by Yang Wenxiao to support Qiao Xiaomai, they all understood deep down that Qiao Xiaomai would never choose them. Hence, they harbored no unreasonable aspirations toward her.
But Hai Feng was different. He was the team leader of the Guard Team and had spent the most time with Qiao Xiaomai. He knew exactly how capable she was. Despite her stubborn temperament, he liked her!
He had never encountered a girl as unique as Qiao Xiaomai. He didn’t care at all that she had been married before. If Qiao Xiaomai gave even the slightest nod of approval, he would spare no effort to give her the grandest welcome into his home.
Qiao Xiaomai was well aware of Hai Feng’s feelings. For this reason, she felt guilty toward him—calling him when she needed him, only to dismiss him when she didn’t. In doing so, she had treated Hai Feng entirely as an object, disregarding the emotions he might have as a person.
“What do you want to do in the future?” she asked him seriously.
“I want to serve as your guard,” Hai Feng replied, looking at her with undisguised disappointment in his tone and expression.
“I don’t need guards anymore,” Qiao Xiaomai said, deepening the sadness on his face.
“But you are a princess. How could you not need guards?” Hai Feng asked.
The imperial decree regarding Yang Wenxiao’s noble title had already come down. Tong Sanlang was now the carefree Prince, and Qiao Xiaomai was Princess Anping. How could a dignified princess not have guards?
Tong Sanlang, observing the scene from the side, interjected, “From now on, I will be her guard. With me protecting her, you should have no worries.”
Hai Feng: “…”
He pursed his lips, keeping silent, his stubborn eyes fixed on Qiao Xiaomai.
Qiao Xiaomai pursed her lips as well and said directly, “Your martial arts are excellent, and your skills are strong. Do you want to go to the military camp, stay in the Court as an official, or work by the Emperor Emeritus’ side?”
“Are those the only three options?” Hai Feng asked.
“You wouldn’t be thinking of retiring, would you?” Qiao Xiaomai asked.
Hai Feng shook his head, indicating that was not his intention…
Seeing the clarity in Qiao Xiaomai’s peach blossom-shaped eyes, devoid of any emotion, Hai Feng bit his lip, giving up completely. “Then I’ll go to the military camp.”
“You’ve thought it through?”
“Yes, I’ve thought it through.”
“The military camp… doesn’t offer much advancement,” Qiao Xiaomai reminded him.
The world was currently at peace, and there was no need for wars. Without wars, there would be no battle achievements, and without achievements, promotion would be difficult.
Moreover, being in the military camp meant being far from the Court. Compared to staying by Yang Wenxiao’s side, it was undoubtedly the worst of the three choices.
“I want to join the military camp and defend Daqi’s borders,” Hai Feng said firmly.
Seeing this, Qiao Xiaomai sighed inwardly and agreed, “Alright.”
