Chapter 701 395: The Purpose of the Extraplanar War

  • Next Chapter

Morning sunlight cascaded down.

Canaan Academy.

A ray of light fell.

Listening to Thor's response, Ryze was somewhat surprised.

"Have you already decided?"

Ryze spoke with a hint of doubt.

"Yes, I have decided. Regarding the domain war, what preparations do I need to make?"

Thor nodded, then asked with a slight pause for thought.

"Preparation?"

"How about this, you go to the library, and I'll tell you myself."

"It's just that I have no other affairs at the moment."

Ryze pondered for a moment, then spoke to Thor.

"Alright, I will trouble you, Dean Ryze."

Thor nodded and didn't reject the offer.

Their communication ended, and Thor headed towards the library.

Half an hour later.

When he arrived at the library, Ryze was already there waiting for him.

"Let's go!"

"We'll talk as we walk."

Ryze beckoned, and Thor quickly followed.

"Thor, how much do you know about the domain war?"

Watching Thor keep up, Ryze paused and hesitated before speaking.

"I know a bit."

"The domain war is said to be launched by the Two Great Empires to maintain the continent's stability and to strengthen its power. Its purpose is partly to plunder resources from other worlds, and partly to divert internal conflicts within the Empire."

Thor paused for a moment, then slowly began to recount.

Over the years, he had indeed gained some understanding of the domain war.

There was nothing he needed to hide from Ryze's inquiry.

"You are right; there are indeed some reasons for it, but there is another most crucial reason."

Ryze looked at Thor with some surprise. Few within the Empire could articulate the domain war situation this well, yet Thor had instantly grasped the key point.

"There is another part?"

Thor was somewhat puzzled and turned his gaze towards Ryze.

"Yes, you should have learned from history books about the Ragnarok, where a massive number of deities fell, right?"

Ryze nodded and then spoke solemnly.

"Yes, it is said that this was achieved by humans joining forces with the Beastman, Giant Dragons, and the Elf Race."

Thor was a bit confused, but he instinctively answered.

"Not entirely correct. Humans, together with the Beastman, Giant Dragons, and Elf Race, did indeed attack the deities. However, Ragnarok was not orchestrated by humans. In fact, it had already arrived millions of years ago when many deities fell, including God of Death Thanatos and God of Death Osiris. Besides, many deities perished, and the fact that humans could annihilate all deities was not the decisive factor; Ragnarok was the most important factor."

Ryze chuckled bitterly and spoke slowly.

"This?"

Hearing Ryze's words, Thor's eyes widened instantly, a look of surprise on his face.

"Surprised, aren't you? But this is the truth."

"How exactly Ragnarok came to be, we still cannot determine. But one thing can be certain: a million years later, the deities will return. Though the continent's current power is quite impressive, it is still far from enough."

"Even now, the Two Great Empires possess only two Main Gods and more than twenty Upper-Rank Gods. Such strength is insufficient to prevent the return of deities. Once they fully return, not to mention anything else, all current human deities will perish."

Ryze's words came slowly, but the content was enough to send chills down one's spine.

Even Thor couldn't help but frown.

"To the deities, we are thieves, having stolen their rules. What would you do if you were them?"

Ryze's voice was steady, with a hint of sigh.

For ordinary people across the continent, even for a Sky Knight, the Divine Domain might still have a choice, but for deities, there is none.

Once the deities return, these beings will inevitably be erased, with no second possibility.

Hearing these words, Thor's heart couldn't help but surge.

At this moment, he couldn't calm down.

He never expected this outcome.

However, despite Thor's turmoil, Ryze didn't seem to care, and his words continued.

"The deities will not spare us upon their return, yet we are unwilling to face destruction, unwilling to lose. Ten thousand years ago, some already thought that since we have become deities, why couldn't we stop their return? If unable to stop it, then our strength was insufficient, our numbers not enough. If we were strong enough and had enough power of rules, how could they return?"

"Of course, the continent alone is insufficient. The Divine Domain shattered, numerous material planes emerged, and all have rules remnants from which ancient deities might revive."

"There's only one way to stop it, and that is to gather all the power of rules, thus preventing any unforeseen events."

Ryze's voice was calm.

Thor instinctively opened his mouth, only to find his lips dry.

At that moment, he didn't know how to describe his feelings.

Regarding the domain war, he imagined countless possibilities, considered countless motivations, but never thought of this one.

Gathering all rules to prevent the deities' return.

"Dean Ryze, isn't that unrealistic?"

Taking a deep breath, Thor forced down the turmoil in his heart, then spoke with hesitation.

"Yes, unrealistic."

"But aren't we becoming stronger? Even if we ultimately can't prevent it, as long as we possess enough strength, even if the deities descend, we'll have a chance."
