Back at Shou’er, it was learned that it was a double celebration.

As it turned out, the first to receive good news was not Zhu Xing but Xiaohui. Two hours ago, Xiaohui’s team of attending doctors received news of a suitable donor heart for her.

It was said that Dr. Han had already rushed off to retrieve the donor heart. Xiaohui was wheeled into the operating room for preparation.

Zhu Xing lay on the hospital bed watching his sister being wheeled away, feeling happy for her rescue. Only Mother Zhuxing cried like a dog outside the door. Xiaohui was saved, but what about her son’s heart? When could they expect it?

More than an hour later, Doctor Cheng Yuchen was on the phone notifying the students to return while also informing the family: "Mother Zhuxing."

Mother Zhuxing covered her mouth with both hands, listening to the doctor happily pronounce each word, her legs finally giving way as she sat down on the ground: overwhelmed with joy.

Good news about the donor is only the first step. Next, as with a liver transplant, a doctor must go to the donor’s operating site to confirm whether the donor organ is suitable for their patient.

A few students ran into the office.

Cao Zhao assigned people to retrieve the donor organ: "You, go with him."

The people pointed to were Duan Sanbao and Pan Shihua.

Dai Nanhui raised his hand: "Teacher, can I go with them?"

"No." Doctor Cheng Yuchen immediately vetoed for Cao Zhao. It’s better not to have too many people escorting the organ, as more people can sometimes mean more complications.

Seeing that Xie Wanying and the others were also not called, Dai Nanhui put down his hand: forget it.

"Do you know what to watch out for?" Cao Zhao nagged a few words to the two young doctors escorting the organ, like every other teacher.

"To be quick." Pan Shihua thought.

Evidently, Student Pan forgot the education from Senior Tao for a moment, Xie Wanying reminded him: "It’s safety."

Laughter of varying heights erupted from the seniors present, hearing that she had been reprimanded for this issue before.

Quickly, Duan Sanbao and Pan Shihua dashed out.

Those remaining had to prepare for the upcoming surgery.

According to relevant literature, the key to the success of the entire heart transplant lies in the degree of protection of the donor heart’s myocardium. Ideally, the ischemic time for the donor’s myocardium should not exceed six hours; that means completing all processes of extracting, preserving, transporting, suturing, and restoring coronary artery blood flow within six hours. This requirement is quite high. Just like last time when Xie Wanying and the others escorted the liver, it’s very rare to have a donor organ available in the same city under scarce donor conditions, so Student Duan and the others need to fly out of town to retrieve the organ this time as well.

The long journey introduces too many variables to the donor heart; organ transplant doctors must proactively contact the remote organ retrieval doctors to discuss how to better protect the donor heart. Following instructions from their superior, Doctor Cheng Yuchen gave the phone number of the other doctor to Student Xie, guiding the student on-site to coordinate communication with the doctors at another hospital.

With the slip of paper bearing the number, only a string of digits was visible, revealing nothing about the hospital or doctor at the other end. Student Xie cautiously dialed the number given by the teacher.

After a few long beeps, the phone on the other end was picked up, with a voice saying: "Hello."

Hearing the accent of the man on the other end, which seemed somewhat familiar, Xie Wanying’s mind quickly turned, realizing: Oh, isn’t this the accent from her hometown’s provincial capital?

"Hello, teacher."
