Chapter 2527: Communication with Principles

"Shan Shan, this is Dr. Xie, and this is Doctor Wei," Liu Huaiyu introduced the two new young doctor assistants to the child.

To Shan Shan, the doctor brother and sister weren’t unfamiliar faces, and her eyes which were filled with suspicion softened a bit.

"Have you decided if you want the doctors to help you with the surgery?" Liu Huaiyu bent down, once again seeking the child’s opinion earnestly.

The words that Shan Shan hadn’t seen her sister and wouldn’t undergo surgery got stuck in her throat. It seemed like the trick she used yesterday had no effect, leaving her little head bewildered.

The doctors could see the anxiety and unease in the child’s heart.

Standing behind the teacher, Student Wei scratched his head, unsure of what to say to the child, afraid that anything he said might hurt the little one’s feelings.

In fact, even Shan Shan’s parents weren’t sure how to explain things to the child, caught in a big dilemma. Shan Shan’s dad, mom, grandpa, grandma, and maternal grandparents were all anxiously peeking at the child from the door of the ward.

"Shan Shan," Xie Wanying placed one hand on the child’s little shoulder and softly said, "Do you want to know what’s wrong with your hand that it can’t move?"

What’s wrong with her hand? The doctor sister, unlike others, wasn’t telling her how to fix it but was surprisingly asking if she wanted to know what happened. Shan Shan’s attention was drawn by the doctor sister’s words, and she said, "I don’t know."

"Do you want to know?" Xie Wanying gently guided the child, hoping not to let her return to the distressing topic.

Shan Shan’s little eyes met the bright eyes of the doctor sister.

Xie Wanying looked the child seriously in the eyes, knowing that only sincerity could touch the child’s heart.

It’s fair to say that the child had been so scared by the lies of adults these days. Seeing that the doctor sister in front of her didn’t intend to deceive her, Shan Shan whispered, "I want to know. Can you tell me?"

Every child has a sense of curiosity, and with enough patience, it can be piqued.

The moment was right, understanding the student’s intention, Liu Huaiyu sent Student Wei to the office to fetch the x-ray films.

Shan Shan had seen doctors holding these films before but they never explained what they were. She was a kid, after all; they’d fear she might not understand. But today was different, the doctor sister and brother began telling her that the films showed her hand.

"The white parts show your hand bones, and you see the white part here and here, it’s obviously broken in between, isn’t it?"

Her hand was broken! Shan Shan’s right hand involuntarily touched her injured left hand.

In the past, doctors would tell this child that her hand needed treatment, leaving her with a muddled concept in her head. To make a child understand thoroughly, there must be visual aids, not just words. Like a teacher in class, having visuals is always better than none. Images are the most direct, having the greatest visual impact. Even adults sometimes can’t comprehend what the doctors say, let alone children.

"What should I do?" Shan Shan’s little voice was filled with deep worry, even a slow-witted child could understand the implications of a broken hand.

"Don’t be afraid. It can be healed," Xie Wanying comforted the child by patting her head, "While you are having surgery, you can watch how the doctors fix your hand. Once your hand is healed, we can go see Xiao Yu, alright? And let the doctors tell you what’s going on with Xiao Yu."

Hearing her sister Xiao Yu’s name, Shan Shan’s eyes filled with tears.
