"I expected this," Jean said, glancing toward the entrance. "But what do we do now? Wait until they leave?" She was holding Elara in her arms, and the two of them remained on the upper floor of the lobby, away from the crowd gathered below.

When Kai glanced down at the entrance, he saw rows of cameramen and reporters waiting for a chance to interview him. Somehow, despite him showing no obvious signs of being heavily involved in the Void incident, they had gotten the hint that Kai might be a delicious scoop.

Or perhaps the foreign hunters had leaked some information. Who knew? Regardless, he couldn’t afford to take any chances. For now, his priority was to get Elara and Jean somewhere safe.

"The hospital staff is trying to keep them under control, but we can’t leave through the front entrance," Kai said, letting out a long breath.

He turned toward Elara, who appeared to have recovered remarkably well. The little girl was already reaching out to him with both hands, her eyes fixed on her father.

Smiling, Kai stepped closer and took her into his arms, holding her fondly against his chest.

"Mmaah..." Elara giggled happily, her usual energy returning as she wriggled in his embrace. She reached up and gently grabbed his face with her tiny hands, seemingly demanding his undivided attention.

Kai kissed her hand before planting another soft kiss on the top of her head.

"Kyahh!" She burst into another fit of giggles, filling both Kai and Jean with a sense of relief and contentment.

"It’s surprising how her little laughs can make the whole world seem so much brighter," Jean murmured, voicing a thought that had crossed his mind.

There was something reassuring about the sound of Elara’s laughter. No matter how complicated or dangerous the situation became, hearing her giggle made everything seem manageable. It was almost like a confidence booster, reminding them that, somehow, they would find a way to handle everything.

Just then, his phone rang.

Still holding Elara in one arm, Kai reached into his pocket with his free hand.

"Nhhhaaa..." Elara immediately protested, displeased at having her father’s attention diverted. She reached toward the phone, trying to grab it before he could answer.

Kai couldn’t help smiling helplessly at her antics. Truthfully, if it had been anyone else calling, he wouldn’t have hesitated to disconnect the call and return to playing with his daughter.

However, the name displayed on the caller ID left him with little choice.

He pulled Elara closer, gently trying to appease her, before answering the call.

"Hello, Mister Adam."

{Hunter Kai, are you still in the hospital?}

"Yes....and it doesn’t appear I will be able to leave anytime soon." He hoped the reporters would get tired soon and leave. They surely would have more important people to attend to stay here till late night.

There was a short pause from the other end before Adam said,

{No, actually, I have prepared an escape route for the hunter.}

Kai frowned as he heard the man further adding,

{There is a car waiting for you at the fire exit of the hospital. That car would lead you to a safe location where you can stay for the time being. And please rest assured, the person I have sent over is a trusted man.}

Kai asked. "But would the hospital allow us to use the fire exit?" It was for an emergency situation after all.

{Hunter Kai, you need not worry about such trivial things. Your safety is a priority. So please, don’t hesitate for long. And once you have reached the location, let me know.}

Kai faintly smiled and said, "Alright-" he was startled since the phone was snatched from him and

*Thud*

Was tossed to the ground.

"Elli? What is this behavior?" Jean scolded Elara in a stern voice; she crouched to pick up the phone.

Elara was unfazed by the scolding as she hugged her father’s neck after having gotten rid of the obstacle.

Kai was surprised since he never sensed her agitation, nor when she reached for the phone. She actually has a good grip, he must say.

He still hugged his daughter and told Jean with a sheepish smile, "Forgive her. My daughter meant no harm. She just needs her Papa right now."

Jean stared at him blankly before turning the screen to him, "She broke your display, and you are comforting me..."

Kai wryly smiled as he took the phone and stuffed it in his pocket. He then held Jean’s hand and started leading her to the staircase.

"Where are we going?" Jean asked, a hint of worry creeping into her voice. "Are we really using the fire exit?"

"Yeah. Adam said it would be fine."

Jean didn’t question his decision. Instead, she brought up something else that had been on her mind. "What about the car? Isn’t it a rental?"

Kai let out a sigh. "At the moment, my mind is deliberately trying to push away a few concerning matters. Right now, I’m choosing to spend time with you two and stay somewhere peaceful."

Jean found that a little amusing. Kai was usually so cautious about almost everything that he rarely made a decision without considering the possible consequences.

Yet here he was, deliberately choosing to set his responsibilities aside, even if only for a little while.

Still, she could understand why. So much had happened since early that morning that even Jean was struggling to process everything.

The events had unfolded so quickly that she barely had time to catch her breath, let alone make sense of the full picture.

And unlike her, Kai had been at the center of much of the chaos. If he wanted to put everything aside for a while and enjoy some peace with the two people closest to him, she couldn’t blame him.

As such, the three of them left the hospital.
