Falling For The True Heiress

Chapter 145: I Want To Visit My Sister-in-law...

I stared at Sylvia with a strange desire burning inside me. I didn’t understand where it was coming from or why it felt so strong. It was almost like my body knew something my mind didn’t. Every time Sylvia came close to me, my heart seemed to beat faster, and I became more aware of her presence. Even now, with only a small distance between us, I could feel the warmth coming from her body.

She looked like she was afraid of touching me.

I didn’t know why my body was reacting like that. I couldn’t remember what Sylvia and I had been before I lost my memories, but there was something about her that felt familiar. I couldn’t explain it. My mind was empty whenever I tried to remember her, yet my body reacted to her as if it already knew her.

I stared at her for another moment before reaching for her.

My fingers closed around her hand, and I pulled Sylvia closer to me. She looked surprised by the sudden movement, but before she could say anything, I leaned toward her and pressed my lips against hers.

I started kissing her.

A raw sound escaped my throat, and my heart immediately began beating harder. Her lips were warm, and the brief contact sent a strange feeling through me. It felt natural, almost too natural for someone I supposedly couldn’t remember.

I didn’t understand it, but I didn’t want to stop.

Sylvia didn’t kiss me back. Instead, she pulled away from me.

I slowly opened my eyes and looked at her in confusion. Her face had changed. She looked tense, and her breathing was heavier than before. The towel she was holding was still damp, and her fingers tightened around it as though she needed something to hold onto.

I stared at her, trying to understand what had just happened.

Why had she pulled away?

Had I done something wrong?

"Babe," I called slowly.

Sylvia didn’t answer immediately. Her eyes moved away from mine, and her fingers tightened even more around the towel.

I reached toward her again, but she moved back.

The movement made something inside me sink. A small, disappointed frown appeared on my face as I stared at her. I didn’t understand why she was avoiding me when I was the one asking her to stay close.

"Sylvia, did I do anything wrong?" I asked curiously.

She shook her head without looking at me.

"No." Her voice was quiet.

I watched her carefully. If I hadn’t done anything wrong, then why was she acting like this?

"Please talk to me, Sylvia."

My voice came out softer than before. I wasn’t angry with her. I was simply confused, and the distance between us was making me uncomfortable.

Sylvia remained silent for a few seconds before slowly turning to me.

Her eyes were darkened, and her breathing was heavy. I could see her chest rising and falling beneath her clothes, and there was a tightness in her jaw as though she was trying very hard to keep herself under control.

"Babe," I called softly. "Why are you avoiding me?"

Sylvia stared at me for a moment before answering calmly, "I might eat you whole if I touched you. I don’t want to use you in your vulnerable state, especially when you remember nothing about me."

I stared at Sylvia for a while before blinking.

Her words slowly sank into my mind.

So that was what she was thinking?

She wasn’t pulling away because she didn’t want me. She was pulling away because she was afraid of taking advantage of me when I couldn’t remember her.

The realization made the confusion inside me disappear.

A small smile appeared on my face.

I reached out and placed my hands over hers. Sylvia looked down at my hands and then back at my face. Her expression softened slightly, but I could still see the uncertainty in her eyes.

"I’m sorry," I said quietly. "I’m sorry for making you think like that."

Sylvia shook her head. She gently turned my hand over and placed a soft, wet kiss on my knuckles.

"Nothing to be sorry for. I’m sorry I can’t satisfy you. I don’t want you to see me as a pervert."

I smiled and nodded.

The tension that had built inside me suddenly disappeared. My shoulders relaxed, and the tight feeling in my chest eased.

Sylvia gave my hand one last gentle squeeze before letting it go. She picked up the towel again and looked at me.

"Come on," she said softly. "You still need to be cleaned up."

I nodded.

She moved closer to the bed again and carefully slipped one arm behind my back.

"I’ll help you."

I allowed her to support me as I shifted my body. My muscles immediately complained at the movement, and I winced when a dull ache traveled through my side.

Sylvia noticed it.

"Easy," she whispered.

Her arm tightened gently around me until I was sitting comfortably. She didn’t rush. She waited until my breathing settled before reaching for the bowl of warm water beside the bed.

The water made a quiet sound as she dipped the white towel into it. She squeezed it between her hands, letting the excess water fall back into the bowl before bringing it to my skin.

The warmth made me relax.

Sylvia started wiping me down. Her touch was gentle, and she was careful around the places where I was still sore.

I watched her silently.

She seemed completely focused on what she was doing. Every few seconds, she would glance at my face to make sure I was comfortable before continuing.

When she reached my shoulder, she slowed down even more.

"Tell me if anything hurts," she said.

I nodded.

The towel moved carefully over my skin, leaving behind a faint warmth as Sylvia cleaned me.

I found myself watching her face.

There was something comforting about the way she cared for me. Even though I couldn’t remember her, she treated me like someone precious.

Sylvia cleaned the areas she could reach without making me move too much. Whenever she needed me to shift, she told me first and supported me carefully.

"Does this hurt?" she asked.

I shook my head. "No."

She nodded and continued.

Her movements were slow and patient. She never pressed too hard, and whenever I shifted uncomfortably, she immediately adjusted her hand.

After she finished, she dipped the towel into the water one last time, squeezed it, and turned the side that was dried to gently wipemy face.

The cool edge of the towel passed over my forehead and cheeks.

I closed my eyes for a moment.

I felt tired.

The earlier tension had left me, and the warmth of the water seemed to have relaxed every part of my body. I barely noticed when Sylvia finished cleaning me and placed the towel back into the bowl.

"That’s it," she whispered.

I opened my eyes.

Sylvia reached for the blanket and carefully pulled it back over me. She adjusted it around my shoulders, making sure I was warm and comfortable.

I sank slowly against the pillow.

My body felt heavy now.

Sylvia noticed and gently helped me lie down properly. She supported my head as I lowered it onto the pillow, then adjusted it beneath my neck.

"Better?" she asked.

I nodded. "Yes."

She smiled faintly.

I watched her sit beside the bed. I could feel sleep slowly pulling at me, making my eyelids heavier with every passing second.

Before I could close my eyes completely, the door opened.

A nurse walked into the room carrying a small tray. The sound of the door made me look toward her.

"How are you feeling now?" the nurse asked.

"I’m tired," I answered.

The nurse smiled and walked toward the bed. She checked the machine beside me first, then looked at the chart before preparing the injection.

My eyes immediately moved to the syringe.

"What’s that?" I asked.

"Your medication," she replied calmly. "It will help with your treatment and make it easier for you to rest."

I didn’t look particularly happy about that.

The nurse noticed my expression and gave me a small reassuring smile. "It will be quick."

Sylvia moved closer to the bed.

I looked at her before reluctantly turning my attention back to the nurse.

The nurse cleaned the area before giving me the injection. I felt the sting, followed by a dull pressure, and then it was over.

I frowned.

"That wasn’t pleasant."

Sylvia let out a small laugh beside me.

I turned my eyes toward her. She looked amused.

"It’s not funny," I muttered.

"I know," she said, trying not to smile.

The nurse finished putting everything away and looked at me seriously.

"There is one more thing. From now on, you won’t eat any food brought from outside. You will only eat what the hospital provides."

My eyebrows immediately pulled together.

"What?"

"The doctors want to monitor your diet while you’re recovering," she explained. "So please don’t eat anything from outside, even if someone brings it for you."

I stared at her.

That was not what I wanted to hear.

"But why?"

"It’s for your recovery," the nurse said simply. "The hospital will provide everything you need."

I glanced toward Sylvia, hoping she would say something different.

She didn’t. Instead, she gave me a knowing look.

I sighed and sank deeper into the pillow.

"I don’t like hospital food."

The nurse smiled. "You’ll have to manage for now."

Then she looked toward Sylvia. "Make sure she follows the instructions."

Sylvia nodded. "I will."

The nurse left the room, closing the door behind her.

The moment she was gone, I turned toward Sylvia with a dissatisfied expression.

"I don’t want hospital food."

Sylvia pulled the chair closer to my bed and sat down. "You heard what the nurse said."

"I know what she said."

"Then you know why you have to follow it."

I frowned. "But hospital food doesn’t taste good."

Sylvia smiled. "You haven’t even eaten it yet."

"I already know."

"How?"

"Because it’s hospital food."

She laughed softly.

I continued looking at her with a serious expression, but the corner of her mouth only lifted higher. "Sylvia."

"Yes?"

"I want normal food. Something tasty. Not whatever they are going to bring me."

Sylvia leaned forward slightly and rested her hand on the edge of the mattress.

"Minnie, you’re still recovering. Just eat what they give you for now. When the doctor says you can eat whatever you want, I’ll get you something you like."

I stared at her.

She wasn’t joking. Her voice was calm, and there was a quiet certainty in her expression.

"You promise?"

"I promise."

I looked away, still annoyed.

Sylvia gently touched my arm. "It’s only for now. Don’t make yourself miserable over food."

I remained silent. After a few seconds, I sighed.

"Fine."

Her smile returned. "Good."

I looked at her again. "But I still don’t like it."

"I know."

I rolled my eyes, and Sylvia laughed quietly.

The medication was beginning to make me feel heavier. My eyelids became difficult to keep open, and the room seemed softer around the edges.

Sylvia noticed immediately. "You’re getting sleepy."

"I’m not."

"You are."

I tried to keep my eyes open just to prove her wrong, but they slowly closed anyway.

I heard Sylvia’s quiet laugh. "Sleep."

I wanted to answer, but the words felt too difficult to form. The last thing I felt was her fingers gently brushing my hair away from my forehead.

Then everything became quiet.

~~~~~ Third-person POV ~~~~~
Sylvia stayed beside the bed for several minutes after Amelia fell asleep. She watched the slow rise and fall of Amelia’s chest, making sure her breathing remained steady. The room was finally peaceful, and for the first time since they arrived at the hospital, Sylvia allowed herself to relax.
She leaned back in the chair and released a long breath.
She was hungry. She had barely eaten anything since coming to the hospital, and now that Amelia was finally asleep, she knew she could leave the room for a little while.
She stood quietly and looked at Amelia one more time.
Amelia didn’t move.
Sylvia picked up her phone and slipped it into her pocket before quietly walking toward the door. She glanced back once more before stepping outside.
The hallway was brighter than the room, and the lights above made her squint slightly. She pulled the door closed behind her and finally allowed herself to breathe normally.
She needed food.
She had been too worried about Amelia to think about herself, but now her stomach reminded her that she hadn’t eaten properly.
Sylvia walked down the hallway, already thinking about what she could find nearby.
Her phone suddenly began ringing.
She stopped and pulled it out of her pocket and looked at the screen.
Venny.
"Hello." Venny’s voice came through the phone. "Sylvia, where are you?"
"I’m at the hospital."
"Which hospital?" Venny asked slowly.
Sylvia looked down the hallway. She didn’t answer immediately.
Venny spoke again. "Send me the address. I want to visit my sister-in-law.
