Falling For My Alpha Stepsister (GL)

Chapter 135: Abigail Is Not Happy

April

I couldn’t stay in that cramped room for another single second.

My head was spinning from everything that had just happened with my mother. I just wanted to get off this cursed ship entirely, and since we hadn’t gotten too far from the docks yet, it was best I find Benny right away and ask her how we were going to pull off leaving the ship.

While walking quickly down the brightly lit corridor, I bumped straight into CJ.

"Hey... it’s CJ, right?" I stopped and smiled at the Alpha girl.

"Umm, you are who again?" She paused, snapping her fingers right in front of my face as if trying to force her memory to work.

Wait, does she seriously not remember me at all?

"January, February, March, May, June..."

She went through the months out loud, deliberately skipping April. I was pretty sure she was just playing a dumb joke on me.

Hahaha...

"Which exact month are you again?" She leaned a bit closer, waiting patiently for my answer.

I couldn’t help but laugh out loud at her, because this really had to be some kind of ridiculous joke.

"April Morningstar," I said, pointing to myself.

"Oh! That’s right! You are the children’s reader..."

"Yes, I am," I nodded, keeping a light tone. "And I’m pretty sure you actually remember my name..."

"Optionally, yes," CJ grinned, lowering her voice a little bit. "You are a month and a Morningstar... who happens to have a ridiculously overprotective sister. Man, that girl is really, really annoying and a complete jerk face..."

"Yeah, she definitely can be," I said, a proud girlfriend expression spreading across my face. "But now she is officially my girlfriend, and we are not related at all..."

"Ohh, I see how it is," CJ raised her eyebrows, looking amused. "So you actually like the annoying jerk face?"

"I like the total package," I replied without hesitation, holding my head high. "The worst, the bad, the good, the dumb, the horny, and whatever else she decides to display in the future. She is my jerk face now..."

Well, it was the absolute truth. I had already accepted everything on the menu that came with loving Angel. She had so much good inside her, alongside some deeply annoying quirks that I loved anyway.

"Okay then, reader lover girl... Can you please tell your terrifying girlfriend to be a little bit nice to me next time we meet?"

"Sure, I’ll try my best," I chuckled softly. "Are you here with Benny right now, or are you just solo?"

"Yes, she is my best friend," CJ leaned in, whispering her last few words mysteriously. "So I’m actually here on a top-secret mission."

I already knew exactly what she was talking about.

"You are here to help her elope with Sister Mary, aren’t you?"

Her eyes widened in genuine surprise.

"How on earth did you know that? I was pretty sure it was an absolute secret mission."

"Benny asked me for my help yesterday," I explained, shifting my weight from one foot to the other. "My role is to locate the Nuns on board, lure Sister Mary out toward the gangway, and then we take a lifeboat before the ship gets too far away from the coast..."

"Ohh, that’s good!" CJ smiled, nodding in approval. "Are you going to go find Mary right now then?"

"No, I was actually looking for Benny first, but maybe it makes more sense if I just go find Sister Mary instead..." I said, thinking it through.

"Okay, that sounds like a solid plan," CJ agreed, tapping her fingers against her hip. "My own job is to secure a lifeboat for us. You know where the main gangway is located, right?"

"Yes, I do..."

"Okay, let the secret mission officially begin," CJ said, taking a step past me. "And also, whenever you see Benny around other people, make sure you call her Anita, because she is here disguised as her twin sister..."

She walked right by me and headed down the hall, leaving me briefly wondering why on earth Benny would need to enter the ship under her sister’s identity in the first place.

So, while trying to find the Nuns, with absolutely no idea where a group of holy sisters would even hang out on a giant luxury ship, I pulled out my phone and called Abigail to help me locate them.

A few minutes later, Abigail met up with me near the main staircase.

She looked visibly stressed, her shoulders slightly hunched and her face pale.

"I managed to locate them," Abigail said, taking a deep breath to catch her breath. "They happen to be inside a small chapel on the upper deck. Come on, I will take you right there..."

As we walked down the hallway together, I glanced over at her and asked, "So, are Katie and the twins on the ship with everyone else?"

"Yes, they were here earlier," Abigail explained, keeping her eyes fixed on the path ahead. "But they had to take a small lifeboat back to the district a short while ago. Katie was feeling extremely seasick, and the twins didn’t want her condition to get any worse..."

"Oh, I haven’t seen or talked to any of them since that beach dinner," I said, feeling a wave of concern. "I really hope she’s going to be okay..."

"I hope so too..." Abigail paused, her voice dropping into a heavy, quiet tone. "So, is it really true that my husband’s entire wealth actually belongs to his niece?"

Oh. Is that the real reason why she looks so sad and exhausted right now?

"I don’t know the actual truth behind it," I admitted honestly, looking at her side profile. "It’s just what Benny mentioned to me and Angel... But even if it’s true, that doesn’t automatically mean he is a bad person."

I tried my absolute best to sound positive for her sake.

Abigail stopped dead in her tracks for a moment, forcing me to stop beside her. I could see her face clearly now, and it wasn’t jovial or bright like it usually was.

She looked completely drained.

"Now I finally understand why he was so eager to become a father all of a sudden..." she said softly, reaching down to gently touch her small pregnancy bump through her dress. "He is just after my mother’s wealth..."

"Abigail, don’t say that..."

"If I have this child," she continued, her voice trembling slightly, "it’s just going to be a repeat of history. He’s going to use this baby as a bargaining asset..."

"Abigail, are you really okay?" I asked, stepping closer to comfort her, placing a gentle hand on her shoulder.

"Yes, I am fine," she said, nodding her head repeatedly as if trying to convince herself. "The chapel is right over there at the end of the hall. Don’t worry about me at all. I will be just fine. Just make sure you take good care of Angel and yourself..."

She tapped my shoulder gently with her hand, offered a faint, strained smile, and then turned around to walk away down the hall.

I wanted to go after her and make sure she wasn’t alone, but just as I turned back toward the hallway, the doors opened, and the Nuns inside caught sight of me standing there.
