Fairy, Don't Be Afraid, I Am Blind
Chapter 747 Drifting North! (Part 2)
Then why doesn’t this City Lord directly kill the Clan Leader, but instead use such insidious torture to torment him?
"He’s not the subordinate of the employer you had back then!" You Su pondered and found the answer, "The reason he’s torturing Mr. Chen like this is because he wants to extract some information from the Clan Leader. He didn’t bother with you because he’s very certain that the only person who knows what he wants is the Clan Leader!"
The old man nodded absentmindedly upon hearing this, as if he hadn’t expected that the events of thirty years ago would become even more complex.
"What the Clan Leader knows but we don’t..." the old man murmured to himself, then suddenly realized, "It must be the identity of that largest employer from back then!"
Hearing this, You Su nodded slightly. With this analysis, You Su felt that the situation was beginning to take shape.
What the City Lord likely wants to know isn’t just the identity of that employer, but also the whereabouts of that pile of Divine Radiance Stones.
The forces involved in this incident are certainly not just the Snow Mastiff Sect and its employer. The pile of Divine Radiance Stones stored in Cangshan must be tied to more complex interests. That’s why the Divine Radiance Stones, painstakingly transported back, couldn’t be sold for certain reasons, nor could they be returned to their original place.
You Su knitted his sword-like eyebrows together, realizing that the path to the Divine Mountain to "sue" was more tortuous and difficult than he had imagined.
"But now that the Clan Leader is gone, we don’t even know the name of our enemy!"
The elders were devastated. They wanted not only to atone for the sin of moving the Divine Radiance Stones back then but also to find and avenge those who started it all. Those people had killed the donkey when the millstone was done, erased their cultivation, and forced them to survive in the bitter cold for thirty years. This hatred, according to the bloodline of the Beiao Continent’s people, must be avenged.
But now without a path to revenge, they found it truly difficult to accept.
"What was your original destination?" You Su suddenly asked.
"The Clan Leader was planning to first settle us at the old site of the Snow Mastiff Sect, then go to the Divine Mountain to expose the truth from back then..." The old man sighed and replied.
Hearing this, You Su shook his head, "That old site was left behind thirty years ago; who knows what it’s like now? There might even be more enemies lurking there."
Everyone fell silent at these words until You Su broke the silence:
"Little Five!"
You Su had taught Little Five a move or two on the snowfield before, which made Little Five very impressed. So even though he was heartbroken, Little Five followed You Su’s orders obediently.
"I appoint you as the new Clan Leader of the Xuesang Tribe! At daybreak, take your people back!"
"Me?! Going back...?"
Little Five was stunned for a moment, and the other members of the Xuesang Tribe were also surprised at the order to return, rather than Little Five becoming the new Clan Leader.
"There are too many people outside who want to kill you. Going back is your best option. Once you’re dead, there’s really nothing left..." You Su’s voice was low, carrying a heaviness that was contrary to his young age.
The people of the Xuesang Tribe looked at each other. They were full of curiosity about the outside world, but curiosity also meant danger. Many were initially bewildered by You Su’s words, but soon they began to agree with his point of view.
They had been living there for thirty years. Although the place was barren and cold, it was their only safe haven.
Compared to the difficulty of leaving and returning within a single day, what was more unacceptable to them was the mission they had come away with, yet couldn’t complete.
"No! If you go back, who’s going to accompany me to the Dragon Palace?"
Bai Ze, wrapped in a sad atmosphere, jumped out suddenly. Its worry was precisely the concern of the Xuesang Tribe members.
"I’ll go." You Su answered very briefly.
Bai Ze’s eyes widened. It seemed unable to believe that the only one who had resolutely refused to go with it now was the only one willing to accompany it.
Everyone was stunned, and the elderly questioner looked at You Su with a heavy heart, saying softly:
"Immortal Master You... you have done more than enough for us... this is our own matter..."
His words reflected the sentiments of many Xuesang Tribe members. Although this young man was labeled a villain on the wanted list, to them, he was nothing like that.
"Mr. Chen told me that person’s name before he died," You Su quietly revealed, "If you carry this name, you’ll die even faster. He protected you all his life. I was entrusted by him and won’t let him down. Right now, I’m the only one who can do this, no need to say more."
"But... but you’re also living in constant danger; heading to the Divine Mountain... isn’t that a death wish..."
The elderly man said worriedly. To them, You Su’s willingness to take on this responsibility was purely out of guilt for the old man’s death.
But even as Clan Leader Chen’s kin, they didn’t think Chen Yi’s death was directly caused by You Su. On the contrary, they felt You Su had done them a great favor by avenging Chen Yi and bringing his body back. Beiao Continent’s people were clear on gratitude and grudges; it was in their nature.
You Su said nothing; he just removed his collar and took off his sunglasses.
"If you didn’t know my name was You Su, would you think I’m the person on the wanted list?"
Everyone looked at You Su’s face: the young man’s face was lean, with sharp contours, and his black and white eyes were particularly deep. Perhaps due to a long stay in the Arctic Snowfield, his skin was tanned, and a rough beard grew along his chin and cheeks.
He didn’t look as strikingly handsome as the person in the portrait, but his resilient, weathered charisma gave him a unique charm.
Their expressions were an unspoken answer to You Su’s question.
"When I look in the mirror, sometimes I don’t even recognize myself..."
You Su consigned, lost in thought:
"Though it hasn’t been long since I last looked into a mirror, I feel as if I’ve aged several years."
"When I was a kid, I would either feel my way along walls or fearlessly crash into everything, knowing that one day I’d break through a wall and find a path. But in the snow, there’s nothing—a wall I can’t even hope to break through. Before he left, Mr. Chen told me that his way of finding direction in the snow was to step where he’d stepped before. Well, I can’t think of a method more fitting for me than that.
The world wasn’t as I expected, and I was lost. So this journey to the Divine Mountain is not just to help you but to help myself. By taking this step, I’ll know where to go next, I can’t just stay in one place waiting."
Everyone kept their silence, as if seeing this young man defy their comprehension in a new light.
Somehow, a little deer had walked over and quietly took You Su’s hand.
You Su was taken aback, finding something had been placed in his hand.
It was a small, elegant necklace made from warm, delicate material.
"I made this from the antlers of the little deer that returned with the Great God," the little deer explained earnestly about the gift she gave You Su.
"A deer’s antlers will keep growing, stronger than the Snow Mulberry Flowers in the snow. My mother said the antlers symbolize immortality. Great God... this is a token of thanks for saving me! Please, you must accept it!"
You Su pursed his lips. He didn’t refuse the girl’s good will, even though saving her was an unintentional act.
"Thank you." You Su ruffled the girl’s hair, and she smiled at him.
The short night faded quickly, with light rapidly covering the land.
Noises began outside; clearly, the City Lord’s death couldn’t be kept secret into the meaningful new day.
Everyone knew they had to act immediately.
The city gate was empty, the few soldiers having been summoned to the crime scene.
The people of the Xuesang Tribe began their return to the Arctic Snowfield. Late to the farewell, You Su gave Little Five the large amount of food and warm clothing he had ’acquired’ from the city.
The Xuesang Tribe, teary-eyed, waved goodbye to You Su.
With a cat tucked in his arms, You Su watched the receding group.
The confusion was gone from his eyes. He turned and headed for the center of Beiao Continent, where the largest and tallest snow mountain stood—
Kongyuan Divine Mountain.
