Fairy, Don't Be Afraid, I Am Blind
Chapter 743 - 354: Five Continents Most Wanted, Part 2
Seeing this, the young deer quickly trotted over to hold You Su’s hand. Even through the gloves, the young deer could feel the boy’s coldness.
The young deer cautiously glanced at the portrait on the wanted poster, then pressed her lips together and still pulled the silent boy to follow the group entering the city. You Su moved stiffly, like a corpse frozen solid.
And just as You Su was about to pass between the two city guards, they suddenly called out to halt the group.
"Stop!"
The Clan Leader quickly turned back, cautiously on the surface, but his heart was pounding like a drum:
"What is it, officer?"
"The inns near the city gate are all for fleecing guests. Look further inside for cheaper ones. It’s nothing, you can go in."
The two city guards were quite decent, accepting the bribe in exchange for real help.
The Clan Leader was greatly relieved, repeatedly expressing his thanks while secretly breathing a sigh of relief.
Many in this group had never left the Arctic Snowfield, and now faced with a real human city, they were filled with a sense of novelty. Although Beiji City didn’t have any skyscrapers or palatial buildings but just ordinary brick and mud houses, they were still amazed.
However, fortunately, before entering the city, they had been instructed by the Clan Leader and didn’t behave too conspicuously. Yet, their traditional beast robes still drew some attention, but given Beiji City’s desolation, how could they object to visitors?
Thanks to the rarity of outsiders, most inns in the city had little business, allowing the Clan Leader to find one that was both cheap and could accommodate more than twenty people.
It wasn’t until the Clan Leader took out thirty-year-preserved taels of silver to pay that the shopkeeper and the waiter’s attitude changed from initial disdain to treating them as if they were nobles. After several reminders, the group of over twenty people finally divided into ten rooms, with everyone instructed to stay honestly in their own room to prevent any accidents.
You Su had a room to himself.
He stared blankly at the snow-covered world outside the window. After knocking on the door, the Clan Leader slowly walked in, holding a pot of freshly brewed hot tea.
Suddenly, a small ash-white cat slipped out from his arms, its tail held high with two small budding horns on its head.
After entering the room, the little cat looked around as though it was curious about everything, occasionally touching things here and there, then extending its pink tongue to taste.
Upon closer inspection, it turned out to be a miniature version of Bai Ze. This divine beast, which resembled both a tiger and a deer, had its tall and sleek deer-like form turned into a sturdy and adorable young tiger-like body.
Bai Ze looked around and seemed to find the silent You Su the most interesting. It jumped onto the tea table, ready to mock him, but seeing You Su’s tightly furrowed, perplexed brow, it wisely held its tongue.
It knew very well that this kid was dangerous now.
"Immortal Master You, have some water..." The Clan Leader pushed the teacup over.
"I am a person of extreme sin, you need not accompany me any longer, lest you bring disaster upon yourselves."
You Su’s voice was as cold as water, as if he was speaking to a stranger.
Ever since entering the city, he had taken off his sunglasses. He could now almost always maintain the state of his ink-black eyes, but he still wanted to recall the feeling he had when enshrouded in chaos.
When he was blind before, he could actually find the right path; now that he could see, he was lost.
The old man looked into the boy’s eyes, then realized that the youth’s eyes, always covered, were so distinctly black and white, clear and bright.
"Immortal Master You, perhaps you forgot, I am also a person of extreme sin." The old man smiled.
"What about them? Most of your clan aren’t criminals."
"Their attitude is the same," Chen Yi said with firm determination, "They may be a bit frightened of you, but in their hearts, they appreciate your help. No one in the Snow Mastiff Sect would betray the Immortal Master; I can guarantee this with the name of our sect."
You Su remained silent. Another trait represented by the Snow Mastiff was loyalty.
"The Immortal Master is a good person, a rarity in the world." The old man suddenly said, "In your eyes, cultivators and mortals are no different. Even though you could easily topple us low-level people, you never act arrogantly, and you never asked anything from us. On the contrary, I can feel the respect you give, and your genuine appreciation for the Snow Breathing Skill. In the cave, I really thought you would kill me with that sword, but you held back. How could such a person possibly be the demon, as the official books claim, who devours people at will."
"Nonsense! He’s obviously a bad guy! Hasn’t he done enough of bullying the weak?"
Little Bai Ze rolled its eyes, completely disagreeing with the Clan Leader’s words, thinking of how it had been bossed around by him the entire way.
However, just after speaking, Bai Ze regretted it and quickly hid under the table to guard against You Su, only to find that You Su was completely unmoved.
The old man, receiving no response, was not discouraged and continued to speak gently:
"Is the Immortal Master worried about others?"
You Su finally reacted and nodded.
"Such a person could never be so cruel..." the old man murmured, as if he had already guessed.
"It’s inconvenient for the Immortal Master to show your face. Tell me what you’d like to know. I just met those two city guards, and they are likely the most knowledgeable people in this city. If I bring them some gifts, perhaps I can obtain some information for the Immortal Master."
You Su seemed to be reanimated and his tone became more intense:
"My sect... No! All, everything about that trial!"
After speaking, You Su seemed to realize his loss of composure and softly added:
"Thank you."
The old man nodded slightly, "There is no need for the Immortal Master to thank me, this is what I should do."
Before leaving, the old man turned back and asked You Su one final question:
"Does the Immortal Master know how I found my way in the expanse of white snow?"
You Su looked up slightly. This was indeed a question that had always intrigued him.
All was white; how could he walk so surely?
Smiling, the old man squinted his eyes, "There’s really no mystery to it. In such icy and snowy conditions, what roads could there be? I just step with my left heel at the right toe, then right heel at the left toe, and in this way, stepping in a straight line, I walked out of the snowstorm. That guy, Xiao Wu, as foolish as he is, even used the silly method I taught him to reach his destination, proving there is some soundness to this method."
Having said this, the old man turned and left the room without continuing, as if imparting all his life’s valuable experiences unspoken.
You Su remained silent, but he grabbed the trembling white cat under the table.
"If you dare move, I’ll kill you."
You Su’s threat was like a sharp blade, poised at Bai Ze’s throat. Bai Ze knew well that if You Su said it, he would do it.
So the dignified divine beast could only submit to You Su’s hand, being stroked like a bundle of hay.
Hmm, it actually feels quite comfortable...
...
The old man walked out of the room, face flushed, having been isolated from the world for thirty years, yet the skills he honed back in the day for his sect’s survival in dealing with others never faded. It’s merely that he went from dealing with the esteemed Immortal Family elites to the relatively modest city guards.
Chen Yi never expected that during his thirty-year absence, the Celestial Awakening True Immortal would emerge in the world. And that not one, but possibly two had appeared, though both had dissipated. Nor did he expect that the terrifying three Evil Gods would truly surface for the first time.
The present Five Continents was entirely different from the one he remembered from thirty years ago.
This made the old man feel quite nostalgic, hoping that some of the information he gathered could provide peace to Immortal Master You.
The polar day in Beiji City was not as long as in the Extreme North, and a brief night was about to fall, casting a somber darkness over the world.
He quickened his pace, wanting to bring back the news he gathered for You Su as soon as possible.
Walking too hastily, he couldn’t help but cough a few times. The recent traveling had caused an unprecedented fatigue.
He imagined that once his sins were atoned for and his clan were settled, perhaps he could peacefully reunite with his ancestors.
As he gathered his strength, a second footstep sounded on the snowy path.
"Chen Yi."
The voice called the old man’s name.
