Fairy, Don't Be Afraid, I Am Blind
Chapter 708 - 337: Dark Torrent of the Raging Rain (Part 2)
It’s a pity that such a brute blade intent comes at the cost of his life.
"Tell my master... about my slash..."
Duanmu Jin clutched Fu Heng’s forearm, and after saying this last sentence, he completely breathed his last.
Despite looking like a spirited young man, he wielded techniques fit for a desperate man at the end of his road.
Fu Heng closed his eyes for him, sighing inwardly:
"If only we could return..."
Even he had no more hope of survival by this point.
He trusted that silent blind junior brother of his. When he returned one time to report a task completed, he was shocked by the many achievements of the Divine Son recorded in the merit book; over the past six months, there wasn’t a single failure in dozens of missions, no matter how terrifying the evil he faced.
Yet he felt he probably wouldn’t hold out until the Divine Son concluded this trial.
These living cultivators were strong, but the evil tide was too overwhelming, and they simply couldn’t be killed. Severing the limbs or heads of the evil puppets couldn’t stop their advance; they could even attach someone else’s head to their necks and be revived.
Fu Heng had a strange illusion that the hundreds uninvited to the island were merely expendables prepared by Zhengyang True Immortal.
A true prodigy should easily suppress two or three peers in the same realm, but those who could face five, six, or even more were as rare as phoenix feathers.
"I told you passing your legacy to that Condensed Water Lower Realm trash meant sending him to his death!"
Tong Hui’s face was hideous, with several bleeding wounds across his body. Yet what enraged him so wasn’t his injuries, but rather the heavy casualties suffered by the Nanyang Continent’s cultivators.
It’s not that Nanyang’s cultivators were weak, but rather the southern ruins were lowest, making defense particularly difficult.
"How could you expect him to save us?! You’re all insane! Hope must be held in our own hands!"
The sounds of battle from the Nanyang cultivators echoed persistently. Tong Hui had had enough of it all, and he roared:
"Nanyang cultivators, hear my command! Charge with me!"
"Tong Hui! If you wish to die, don’t take our people with you!"
Fu Heng’s voice was low as he stopped Tong Hui; if Tong Hui left, the southern defensive line would collapse, and the hope of survival would become even dimmer.
Tong Hui, however, merely glanced back at him, gritting his teeth:
"I’m doing this to save them!"
Fu Heng was rendered speechless; he couldn’t refute Tong Hui’s words. The chances of survival were zero either way, whether they stayed to hold the fort or plunged into the evil tide to break through.
He didn’t continue to deter him, as he felt he had no right.
The impending departure of Tong Hui and the Nanyang cultivators shook the remaining fighters’ morale further, leaving them wavering between holding firm and taking a chance.
Just then, these formerly dim-witted evil puppets suddenly launched an even fiercer charge! There was even pulling and trampling among them, as if under some irresistible command, they had to overrun these ruins immediately!
Tong Hui was stunned; facing such violent evil puppets, he lost every bit of courage to step inside.
Fu Heng furrowed his thick brows, observing the puppets’ appearance, murmuring:
"They... seem to be afraid of something..."
Tong Hui heard and whispered, "We’re all going to die..."
One moment he was full of confidence, the next he was ashen-faced. If there was something behind the evil tide that even terrified the puppets, their death was assured.
He extended his gaze, staring into the pitch-black rainy night, suddenly his attention was caught by a flame.
The fire poured recklessly amidst the rain, with a vague tremor coming from the earth, echoing a soul-shattering roar from afar.
Someone recognized it from afar, "That’s the Fire Armadillo!!"
"It’s over, truly over..."
Someone had completely abandoned hope, slumping to the ground. The speaker was none other than the always low-profile little Saint Heir.
His existence shouldn’t have been so low-key, but after the ordeal with the Fire Armadillo, he was gravely injured, barely surviving thus far was taxing. Precisely because of this, he was the one most aware of the Fire Armadillo’s might.
Others were affected by him, even forgetting to defend against the evil puppets climbing the ruins.
Despair filled the ruins, but Fu Heng wasn’t infected by it, because he knew the direction where the initially mutating evil tide came from was also You Su’s direction!
"There’s someone up there!"
Si Han saw a figure atop the Fire Armadillo!
Her cave was filled with Divine Valley Clear Grass, an herb that clears one’s sight; she had once used it to coax You Su to her cave when Zixun first met You Su, though back then she hadn’t actually planted such herbs. Later, she sought them from various places, carefully cultivating similar herbs in her own field. Over time, her own visual acuity became exceptional!
"Someone?!"
Everyone repeated Si Han’s shout incredulously.
"It’s someone coming to save us! We’re saved!"
Hope was instantly ignited by the approaching blaze.
"How could it be You Su..."
Si Han saw clearly who owned that silhouette, whispering to herself in astonishment.
"What?! How is it him?!"
Many heard her muttering; Tong Hui was furious, eyes wide, as the hope flared up just ended in boundless anger:
"We put all our hope on him! And now he returns empty-handed from fear! This worthless man!"
From his perspective, this was certainly no savior, but confirmation of a death sentence.
You Su’s return meant the legacy hadn’t reached its end, and with their emotions wildly swinging, everyone felt a bit numb.
You Su approached, riding a fire-spitting beast over ten meters long with the momentum of thunder, like a divine being from myth bringing fire to the cold world, or a soul-collecting demon enrobed in ghostly flames from hell.
He was so fast that those in the ruins had no chance to evade. Or rather, they were surrounded and had nowhere to hide.
"Is he here to save us or kill us?" Zixun asked blankly.
She didn’t have the energy to ponder the reason for You Su’s return; his aura made him seem unfamiliar, leaving her, like everyone else, unsure of his intentions, whether good or evil.
"He’s here to save her."
Si Han’s eyes suddenly became firm, as if she believed this deeply.
Fu Heng’s brain whirred urgently; he didn’t know You Su well, but he trusted him.
Few knew of You Su’s achievements, Fu Heng was one of those who sought them out. Once you learned of it all, it was hard not to believe he could accomplish anything. So during the scramble for the Threefold Purple Gold, he led as a supporting act to a Condensed Water Lower Realm.
"Everyone split up! Let him pass!!"
Fu Heng shouted, then picked up Duanmu Jin from the ground and charged to the sides.
At his command, everyone was quickly alert and moved.
Si Han saw clearly that atop the Fire Armadillo was You Su, his face expressionless, looking as grim as if he had climbed out from a coffin.
The Fire Armadillo leaped high from ten meters away in front of the ruins, spewing scorching flames from its mouth.
His target was indeed that peerless giant snake!
Si Han wiped away the rain on her face, suddenly smelling a hint of blood on her hand.
She wasn’t bleeding, so whose blood was it?
In the light of the fire, even the rain turned orange-red, yet Si Han acutely noticed some drops were a deeper crimson.
Did he bleed all this way just to save her?
Si Han thought blankly, wondering why she felt envious of that soon-to-suffocate white snake.
A tear fell from her face amidst the rain, "But you can’t save her..."
...
Outside the immortal island, Zhengyang True Immortal slowly opened his eyes in the heavy rain.
He scanned the cultivators below him with eyes blazing like the sun, and suddenly spread his hands, laughing:
"Since you want to watch, then let me show you the final battle of this trial..."
