F-Rank Awakening: My System Turns Trash Skills To SSS-RANK
Chapter 28: One Time Offer
The pale blue window before Rain’s eyes shifted, the simple prompt dissolving into a clean, structured cascade of light.
Instead of the blinding blur that had nearly blinded him in the collapsing chamber, the text now hung in midair, perfectly still, organized in crisp, glowing rows that he could take his time reading.

[NEW SLOT UNLOCKED]
[Skill Slot 2: Open]
[Attribute Points Granted: 16]
[System Store Access Unlocked: Rank F-D]
[Achievement Unlocked: Slayer of the Deep]
Rain leaned back against his stiff hospital pillows, his eyes wide as he scanned the lines one by one.
"Fifteen hundred bonus experience," he whispered, his voice dry but full of wonder. "That’s insane. I don’t even know what a normal reward would’ve looked like split five ways, but this wasn’t that. This was a bonus on top of whatever the kill itself was worth."
His gaze dropped down to the level-ups. Four of them. Four whole levels in a single fight. He had no real frame of reference for what that meant, no idea how fast an ordinary hunter’s own core, whatever invisible process governed strength for people without a system, was supposed to grow. All he knew was where he’d started that night and where he was sitting now, and the gap between those two numbers alone was enough to make his head spin.
Then his eyes locked onto the line in the center.
[Skill Slot 2: Open]
Rain sat up straight, ignoring the dull, throbbing pain in his braced right thigh.
’A second slot,’ Rain thought, his pulse quickening as he stared at the words. ’It actually opened. When I fused my first two F-rank skills into Flash Step, it consumed the only slot and left me with one unified ability. I wasn’t sure if the system would ever let me expand past this quick!’
He raised a hand and touched his chin, his mind immediately racing down the logical path.
"Wait," Rain said out loud, turning the thought over in his throat. "If I have two open skill slots now, that means I need two raw skill disks to use the synthesis function again. My first fusion took two separate F-rank disks to combine into one higher-tier skill. A single disk in an open slot is just a normal skill. To get another fused skill like Flash Step, I need two completely new disks."
He let out a long, heavy breath, leaning his head back against the wall.
’Two skill disks,’ he thought, a slight frown touching his forehead. ’Even the cheapest F-rank disk costs twenty-five thousand credits on its own, that’s exactly what put me in debt the day I turned eighteen. Two of them would be fifty thousand. I don’t even have fifty credits sitting in my account right now, let alone fifty thousand. Where am I supposed to find two raw skill disks?’
It was a daunting, heavy realization. The open slot was a massive leap forward, but it was like being given a brand-new, high-end lock without a key. He couldn’t just buy a disk from a corner shop or ask a guild for a loan. He was still an independent contractor with zero backing.
"One step at a time, Rain," he murmured to himself with a small, quiet smile. "A week ago you didn’t even have a second slot. Figure out the disks later."
He swiped his hand through the air, clearing the reward flood, and called up his current profile to check his foundation.

The system chimed softly, a new interface unfolding beside his status sheet.
[16 Unallocated Attribute Points Available.]
[Please select an attribute to distribute points: Strength, Agility, Endurance, Intelligence.]
He looked at the number sixteen. Sixteen points was a massive pool. Up until now, he had gained points slowly, one or two at a time from minor level-ups, forced to distribute them carefully just to stay alive.
’Wait,’ Rain thought, sitting up a little straighter. ’It’s letting me choose. Every other level-up just auto-applied wherever it wanted, and now it’s actually asking me.’
He almost laughed. ’Sweet. I can finally do this myself.’
Then again, he supposed that made a kind of sense. Every other level-up so far had landed in the middle of a fight, mid-swing, mid-sprint, mid-panic, barely enough time to glance at a floating number before another monster was already on him. He’d never once had the luxury of sitting still with a clear head and a full menu of options in front of him. Maybe the system had simply never had the room to ask before now.
Having sixteen points sitting in front of him felt almost like luxury.
He didn’t rush to assign them. He folded his arms over his chest, his eyes trailing over his four basic stats.
"All right," Rain spoke aloud into the quiet room, his voice steady as he began to talk himself through the math. "Let’s think about what actually happened down in that chamber. What almost killed us?"
He looked down at his casted leg resting on the foam pillows.
’My Strength was fine,’ Rain reasoned internally. ’At fifteen, I had enough force to drive an iron spike through a boss’s neck plates. My Agility was twelve, which was barely enough to stay ahead of its blind sweeps when I was healthy, but the second my leg snapped, Agility didn’t mean anything. I couldn’t dodge. I couldn’t move.’
He rubbed his knuckles against his blanket.
"The real problem was durability," he said plainly to the empty room. "One bad hit from a C-rank monster’s leg took almost twenty percent of my health in a single second. If it had landed a clean strike with its scythe arm, my HP would have dropped to zero instantly. I was too thin. One mistake and I was dead."
He selected the button for Endurance on the translucent screen.
’Endurance governs physical structure,’ Rain thought, his eyes bright with curiosity. ’Let’s see how directly it impacts the raw numbers.’
He deliberately allocated four points into Endurance, raising it from 12 to 16, and selected confirm.
A faint, warm tingle washed down his spine, settling deep into his chest and ribs. The interface flickered, updating his profile immediately.
[Endurance: 12 -> 16]
[HP: 96/100 -> 96/120]
Rain stared at the number, his mouth falling open slightly. "Wait. What?"
His Health pool has gone up along with endurance.
He sat with that for a second, genuinely confused rather than pleased. His HP had never moved before, not once, not across every level-up since the day he first synthesized Flash Step. His Endurance had already climbed from nine to twelve over time during the rift raid, four whole points, and his max HP had sat locked at a flat one hundred through every single profile check in between.
’That doesn’t add up,’ Rain thought, frowning at the screen. ’If four points of Endurance just bought me twenty points of HP, then my last four points should have done something too. Unless...’
He turned the problem over slowly, refusing to accept the first easy answer.
’Maybe there’s a line somewhere,’ he thought. ’A threshold. Endurance under a certain number does nothing to HP, just raw toughness, recovery, resistance, and only once you cross some point does it start feeding the health pool directly. I went from twelve to sixteen just now. Maybe twelve sat right under wherever that line is.’
It was a reasonable guess. It wasn’t proof. One measurement wasn’t a law, it was a single point on a graph he couldn’t see the rest of.
’Fine,’ he thought, filing it away without full confidence. ’Working theory. Not a fact.’
He looked at his remaining points, and a new question surfaced.
"If Endurance affects HP," Rain murmured, "does Intelligence affect Mana the same way?"
He almost answered his own question before asking it properly. His Intelligence had been sitting at sixteen since before he even entered the rift, and his Mana had been locked at a flat ten the entire time, never once creeping past that ceiling no matter how many levels he cleared.
’If the threshold idea holds,’ Rain thought, working through it carefully, ’Intelligence should have already crossed whatever line triggers a bonus a long time ago. Sixteen is exactly where my Endurance landed after I just bumped it, and that bump is what triggered the change. My Intelligence has been sitting at that same number, sixteen, this whole time, with nothing happening. So either the threshold’s different for every stat, or there’s no threshold at all and something else entirely is going on.’
He exhaled, rubbing his temple.
’I don’t actually know,’ he admitted to himself, and there was something almost freeing in just saying it plainly. ’The system isn’t even trying to explain its own math to me. Maybe I’m not supposed to reverse-engineer this from two data points in a hospital bed. Maybe the real answer is just: level up more, allocate more, and let the pattern show itself over time instead of trying to solve it today.’
Still, there was only one way to actually find out anything at all, and that was to test it.
He selected Intelligence and added four points, pushing it from 16 to 20.
He selected confirm on the screen.
A cool, crisp sensation flared behind his temples, like a splash of ice water clearing away a fog he hadn’t realized was there. The screen updated instantly.
[Intelligence: 16 -> 20]
[Mana: 10/10 -> 10/14]
Rain stared at the line for a long moment, a slow smile creeping across his face despite himself.
"There it is," he said quietly.
Whatever the actual rule was, threshold, milestone, something stranger he hadn’t guessed at yet, the result was the same shape as before: pushing a stat past its old number bought him something concrete. He didn’t fully understand the mechanism. He wasn’t sure he ever would, not from inside a hospital bed with nothing but his own memory and a system that answered exactly what it wanted and nothing more.
’I used to think Intelligence was just a utility stat,’ Rain thought, feeling a genuine, satisfying click of understanding even without the full picture. ’For scholars, for people who use big flashy skills which takes insane control and understanding. But it isn’t just that. Whatever’s actually happening under the hood, this is the stat feeding Flash Step’s fuel tank. That’s not nothing.’
He tapped his chin, a small smirk touching his lips.
"Intelligence isn’t just about being smart or solving puzzles," Rain said softly. "It’s my gas tank. If I don’t have Mana, Flash Step doesn’t work, and if Flash Step doesn’t work, I’m just a guy with a knife and a broken leg. Turns out the stat I always thought was for other people has been quietly carrying my whole combat style."
He looked back at his remaining unallocated points. He had eight points left out of the original sixteen.
"All right," Rain said, his voice dropping into a focused, serious tone as he considered his final balance. "I need to be balanced. I can’t neglect my physical power, but I can’t leave my mobility behind either."
He allocated three points into Strength, raising it from 15 to 18, ensuring his strikes would hit hard enough to pierce thick hide or bone plate without needing a leverage spike.
He put three points into Agility, pushing it from 12 to 15, restoring his natural speed and reaction time so he wouldn’t be caught flat-footed again.
Finally, he put his last two points into Endurance, bringing it up to 18, pushing his maximum HP even higher.
He hit final confirm.

Rain looked at the finalized sheet with a deep sense of accomplishment. His body felt sturdier, lighter, and far more grounded. His head felt razor-sharp, his senses crisp and attuned to the quiet sounds of the hospital room outside.
The status sheet dissolved, replaced immediately by a new, silver-bordered window that expanded across his vision.
[System Store Access Unlocked: Rank F-D]
[Welcome, Host, to the System Exchange Interface.]
Rain blinked, leaning forward. "The store. Let’s see how this works."
A calm, text-based guide appeared at the top of the interface, outlining the rules in clean, precise language.
[Store Overview:]
[1. Currency: Synthesis Credits (SC). Earned exclusively via System Missions or by converting materials/items through the Sell Function. SC holds no monetary value outside the System.]
[2. Fixed Catalog: Always-available stock of basic consumables, utility tools, and standard equipment within unlocked rank tiers (F through D).]
[3. Rotating Stock: Limited-quantity, specialized, or rare items that appear on a timed rotation. Listings expire and refresh automatically.]
[4. Sell / Trade-In Function: Items, monster materials, and gear placed into the System Interface will be evaluated based on purity, rank, and utility, granting SC upon confirmation.]
Rain read through the four rules carefully, his eyes narrowing on the second point.
’Fixed Catalog,’ Rain thought, tapping the tab to open the main listing. ’Let’s see if they sell skill disks.’
He scrolled down the list of available items.
[Minor Mana Recovery Potion (Rank F) - 50 SC]
[Standard Health Salve (Rank F) - 40 SC]
[Hardened Ridgeback Plate Vambrace (Rank D) - 220 SC]
[Bonewretch-Bone Reinforced Blade (Rank D) - 260 SC]
He scrolled all the way to the bottom of the catalog. There were no skill disks. Not a single one.
"None," Rain confirmed out loud, letting out a soft sigh. "The store doesn’t sell skill disks at all. Not even basic F-rank ones."
He nodded to himself, accepting the reality without frustration. The system gave him tools, but it wasn’t going to hand him raw power on a silver platter. He would still have to find skill disks out in the world by working hard to earn good money through rift drops, high-tier rift loots and then buying them from external markets once he had the funds.
He tapped the ’Sell’ tab, curious about how the system evaluated value.
[Sell Function Active.]
[Place any physical item into the System Inventory boundary to receive a valuation in Synthesis Credits.]
Rain picked up the heavy velvet pouch resting on his tray table. He unzipped the top, pulled out the deep-red Bone Widow core, and held it near the glowing blue border of the window.
The system scanned the core with a soft, pulsing light.
[Item Detected: High-Boss C-Rank Monster Core (Bone Widow)]
[Purity: High (Unrefined)]
[Standard System Trade-In Value: 1,200 SC]
"Twelve hundred credits," Rain whispered, staring at the number. "That’s enough to buy twenty mana potions."
He turned the core over slowly in his palm, feeling its weight, warm even now, days after he’d carved it loose with his bare hands. He wasn’t sure he wanted to sell it at all, not this one, not after everything it had cost to hold onto.
Before he could decide either way, a sharp red warning border flashed across the entire store interface, freezing the screen in place.
[SPECIAL NOTICE: FLASH OFFER TRIGGERED]
[A rare, time-sensitive exchange proposal has been generated based on Host’s current inventory and unlocked milestone.]
Rain froze, his hand holding the red core inches from the screen.
"A flash offer?" Rain whispered, his eyes wide.
The amber window expanded, filling his vision with a formal, locked proposal.
