Chapter 660: Chapter 629: Defying the Heavens to Change Fate
The three people present were stunned silent by Mu Chen’s shout, taking nearly three seconds to react. Even Wan Xian’Er, who had learned just last night that Mu Chen could save Ying’Er, couldn’t help but stare at him in astonishment.
At that moment, as the Grand Elder of the Ding Palace, Wan Xianlin finally made the call of a true decision-maker: he would trust Mu Chen!
"Yalan, what are you gaping at? Do as the Saint Heir says! This is my token!" As he spoke, Wan Xianlin tossed Yalan a shimmering golden leaf. Engraved upon it were nine silver-white veins—it was the token representing the highest authority in the Ding Palace!
After taking the Grand Elder’s token, Yalan acknowledged the order and departed. As she left, however, she shot Mu Chen a shocked glance, for she had clearly heard the Grand Elder’s name for him—Saint Heir.
"Xian’Er, Saint Heir, follow me!"
With that, Wan Xianlin stomped his foot once, and a Gate of Space instantly appeared before Mu Chen. Wan Xianlin stepped through, with Mu Chen and Wan Xian’Er following close behind. Upon entering, they found themselves in a dim tunnel that descended via a flight of stairs. At the bottom was an ordinary stone door from which a potent Sealing Power emanated.
After the other two entered, Wan Xianlin stepped onto the first stair of the tunnel. A dazzling white light immediately burst from beneath his foot. The light spread outward like ripples on a lake, instantly banishing the surrounding darkness.
At the same time, Wan Xianlin said to Mu Chen, "This is where I train in seclusion year-round. Absolutely no one from the Outer Realm will disturb you. Saint Heir, you may use this place with full confidence."
Mu Chen nodded and hurried down. When they reached the stone door, Wan Xianlin reached out and gently pressed his palm against it. Instantly, four straight beams of white light shot from his palm. After tracing a specific pattern across the door’s surface, they abruptly stopped. With a low THUD, the stone door rumbled to the left, revealing a brightly lit secret chamber to Mu Chen.
Taking a deep breath, Mu Chen turned to Wan Xianlin and Wan Xian’Er and said with determination, "Grand Elder, Xian’Er, please wait outside for now. I need to assess Ying’Er’s condition first. When Yalan brings the elixirs or Medicinal Herbs to restore Spiritual Power, please have Xian’Er deliver them to me. Rest assured, Ying’Er will be alright."
After giving Mu Chen a long, deep look, Wan Xianlin nodded silently. He turned, closed the stone door, and said to Xian’Er, "Let’s do as the Saint Heir says. We’ll go outside and wait for Yalan."
Following behind Wan Xianlin, Wan Xian’Er’s eyes were filled with doubt and confusion. She wanted to ask, but desperately held back. It wasn’t until they had exited the tunnel that she looked at Wan Xianlin with a complicated expression.
Wan Xianlin, however, seemed to have already sensed her confusion. Gazing ahead, he spoke to Wan Xian’Er, "Little Fairy, you want to ask why I’m calling Mu Chen the Saint Heir, don’t you?"
"Yes."
Wan Xian’Er didn’t say anything more; she knew Wan Xianlin would tell her the reason.
"Silly child," Wan Xianlin said with a fond smile. "Do you remember the mission I sent you on three years ago, when you left the mountain?"
Wan Xian’Er replied, "Of course I remember. You had me search for the Saint Heir... Wait, don’t tell me... Mu Chen is him?"
Wan Xianlin nodded. "That’s right. Mu Chen is the one we’ve been searching for all this time. The one acknowledged by both the White Dragon Cauldron and the Golden Dragon Scripture. He is the Ding Palace Saint Son."
"How can that be?" Wan Xian’Er’s face was a mask of disbelief. "Three years ago, I was with him for a full six months. Why didn’t the Detection Crystal show even the slightest reaction?"
Wan Xianlin replied, "That is likely what makes the Saint Heir so special. The one acknowledged by the White Dragon Cauldron and the Golden Dragon Scripture is no ordinary person. But what’s fortunate is that even though you didn’t discover his identity, your fates still became closely intertwined—exceedingly so. Perhaps this was destined by the heavens. In truth, there is something your father and I have never told you."
"What is it?"
Wan Xianlin walked out of the Immortal Rain Hall and looked up at the sky. "Your marriage," he said, "was decided long ago—from the very moment the Saint Heir appeared."
...
Inside the secret chamber of the Immortal Rain Hall, Mu Chen had already placed the unconscious Xiao Ying’er onto a clean bed. After covering her with a blanket, Mu Chen gently placed his hand on her forehead. Unexpectedly, her previously ragged breathing suddenly grew a little calmer.
Feeling Xiao Ying’er’s normal body temperature, Mu Chen finally let out a sigh of relief. ’Good, no fever.’ If her weakness had been accompanied by a burning heat, Xiao Ying’er’s Spiritual Power would have become abnormally chaotic. If his Spiritual Power were to then enter her body, it would throw her Sea of Souls into utter turmoil. At that point, her soul would likely have collapsed on its own, even before her shattered Dantian could devour it.
"Master."
At the soft call, the Profound Old Ghost appeared. He raised a slightly transparent hand and gently touched the center of Xiao Ying’er’s brow. His purple eyes slowly closed, and a soft white light transferred from his body into Xiao Ying’er’s, forming a gentle white shield around her.
After completing this act, the Profound Old Ghost opened his eyes. However, the seemingly simple action caused his already transparent body to become even fainter, and he let out a weak breath.
"Master, your form!"
Seeing the Profound Old Ghost’s soul weaken, Mu Chen became extremely anxious.
The Profound Old Ghost gave a faint smile. "It’s nothing. I just transferred a bit of my Soul Power to Xiao Ying’er. The Ding Palace has plenty of Medicinal Herbs for restoring Spiritual Power; I can just absorb some later to recover. Xiao Ying’er’s condition is more important. With my Soul Power protecting her, it will be much simpler for your Spiritual Power to enter. After all, she can be considered my grand-disciple, can’t she?"
