Extra's Path: The Eternal Frost Monarch
Chapter 328: Browsing Information [2]
He paused. "I guess I need to study history more seriously too."
His curiosity had only grown. He wanted to know more about Vespermark.
More about the vampires.
Noah eventually sat up.
"Enough thinking. Huge possibility that Ken might be like me... but with knowledge..."
He placed his phone aside and got out of bed.
Nancy, who had been sleeping comfortably throughout his entire investigation, opened one golden eye because of the sound.
She watched Noah hurriedly walk toward his desk.
"Meow..."
Noah glanced back at her.
"What?"
Nancy stared at him for a few seconds.
Then she yawned lazily.
"..."
She simply closed her eyes again and went back to sleep.
Noah sighed.
"Right. Of course. Why would you care?"
He walked over to his desk. After sitting down, Noah reached into his storage ring and took out a thick notebook along with a pen.
This wasn’t an ordinary notebook. It was something Noah had started using specifically for dangerous information.
Whenever something suspicious happened to him, whenever he encountered an incident he couldn’t explain, or whenever he discovered something that might become important later, he wrote it down.
He had learned the hard way that relying entirely on memory was dangerous.
Especially in this world. Noah opened the notebook to a fresh page. He stared at the blank page for a moment.
Then he began writing. The first thing he recorded was the labyrinth.
He carefully documented everything he could remember from the moment he and Damien entered it.
From routes to monsters to the portal. Also the phenomenon happened after Noah vanished in portal.
How those creatures came out from the last boss’s body.
He wrote down every detail he could remember, even things that seemed insignificant.
He deliberately avoided writing anything in a vague manner. If he remembered something clearly, he wrote it down as fact.
After several pages, he reached the events involving Akari.
He carefully recorded how he had encountered her inside the mysterious realm and how they had eventually fought together to survive. he didn’t wrote anything about her bloodline.
He didn’t write down every single detail exactly as it had happened, but he made sure he had enough information to reconstruct the events later.
Eventually, he reached today’s events.
Noah turned to a new section.
Ken Takeane — Suspicious Activity
He began writing.
Ken Takeane was observed secretly meeting Marina behind the dormitory building.
After he was done he rubbed his forehead.
"Why does everything around me have to be so complicated?"
He sighed. Then his gaze drifted toward Nancy.
The black cat was still sleeping peacefully on his bed, completely unconcerned with the mysteries threatening to pile up around them.
Noah couldn’t help but smile. "At least someone here has a peaceful life that I always wish."
Nancy’s ears twitched. But she didn’t open her eyes.
Noah kept staring at her then chuckled quietly. Then his expression became serious again.
He looked down at his notebook. "I need to find out what Ken is planning."
He picked up his pen once more. "And I need to find out whether Marina’s sister actually has Bloodmoon Rot."
If she did then the question wouldn’t simply be how she had contracted the disease.
The bigger question would be much more frightening. Were there still vampires alive in this world? If yes then definitely they have some dangerous role in future of this game, in future of this world.
Noah slowly closed the notebook.
Whatever the answer was, he had a feeling that this matter would eventually lead him somewhere he hadn’t expected.
----
"Yes, Noah? Why did you call me?"
"Can’t I call you without a reason now?" Noah asked, sounding genuinely hurt. "Sigh... If you really want a reason, then it’s because I missed you."
He lay comfortably on his bed with Nancy resting on his chest. One hand gently stroked the little cat’s head, occasionally messing with her fur just to annoy her, while his other hand held the phone to his ear.
He was talking to one of the people dearest to him.
A soft chuckle came from the other end of the call.
"Haha, don’t be so dramatic. And yes, you can call me even if you don’t have a reason. Just try not to do it when I’m busy."
It was Akari’s calm, familiar voice.
"Hmm... I miss you."
"Yes. Me too. So, did you go to the academy?"
"Yeah. Just today."
They continued talking for a while, jumping between random topics and casually sharing what had happened since they last spoke. Neither of them seemed particularly interested in ending the call.
After a while, however, Noah remembered the reason he’d wanted to speak with her.
"Akari, I wanted to ask you something."
"Sure. What is it?"
"Hmm..." Noah hesitated for a moment before asking, "Do you think vampires are still alive?"
There was silence on the other end.
Akari didn’t say anything for a while. "According to the records of our history..." she finally began, her voice thoughtful, "they’re supposed to be dead."
She continued "But honestly, I wouldn’t completely believe those records. Vampires weren’t some unintelligent race of beasts or monsters that could simply disappear or get extinct from the world. They were an intelligent race, just like humans and elves."
Akari paused briefly.
"Making an entire intelligent race completely disappear is almost impossible. So, I believe there are definitely some vampires still out there somewhere."
"Hmm... okay."
"But why the sudden interest in vampires?"
"Nothing serious. I was studying history and suddenly became curious about them. The war was really cruel."
"Well, that’s how war is," Akari replied calmly. "It happens between races, and sometimes even between humans themselves."
She paused before adding,
"Don’t forget that my family and the Raigamine Duchy was once a separate kingdom. It was only after we lost a war against the Aurelian Empire that our kingdom became part of the empire."
"Oh, right..."
Noah fell silent for a moment, thinking about her words.
’So Akari also believes that the vampires might still be alive...’
His curiosity only deepened.
