Chapter 202 -
Chapter 202: Chapter
The following morning arrived far more quickly than anyone would have liked.
Although the sun had only just risen, the Fu residence was already awake.
The events of the previous day still lingered heavily over the household, and despite everyone trying to behave normally, there was an undeniable tension hanging over the family.
Today was the day of Bao Li and Wei Meilan’s banquet.
More importantly, it was the day Su Long and Fu Sheng intended to begin putting their plans into motion.
Inside the courtyard, several members of the family were already gathered.
Grandfather Fu and Grandmother Fu sat together beneath the shade of the tree while Master Fu quietly drank tea nearby.
Madam Fu had been busy helping prepare breakfast earlier and had only just finished cleaning up with the others.
Meanwhile, Su Long stood beside Fu Sheng while adjusting her sleeves.
Han Fuji stood nearby.
For once, there was very little of his usual carefree attitude.
Although he still appeared relaxed on the surface, there was a seriousness in his eyes that had not been there before.
Today’s matters were too important for mistakes.
One wrong move could alert Tiger Alley.
One wrong move could ruin everything.
Fu Sheng glanced toward the sky before speaking.
"We should leave soon."
Han Fuji nodded.
"The earlier we move, the better."
Su Long agreed silently.
Her thoughts were occupied by the countless things they still needed to accomplish.
The banquet.
The ledger.
The warehouse.
The military general arriving later that day.
Everything had already been arranged.
Now all they could do was move forward.
As she was thinking, movement near the entrance of the courtyard caught her attention.
Her gaze shifted immediately.
Bai Ming was standing near the gate.
She was carrying a basket and looked prepared to leave.
The moment Su Long saw her, she immediately understood where she was going.
Their eyes met briefly.
Bai Ming looked away first.
The reaction alone almost made Su Long smile.
Yesterday’s conversation had clearly remained in her thoughts all night.
No matter how much Bai Ming disliked Fu Fong, she had ultimately decided to seek him out.
Not because she trusted him.
Not because she cared what he thought.
But because she wanted answers.
And right now, Fu Fong was the only person who seemed willing to give them.
Su Long looked at her for a moment before speaking.
"Be careful."
Bai Ming stopped.
Then she glanced back.
For several moments neither woman spoke.
Eventually Bai Ming sighed.
"I know."
Although her voice sounded calm, Su Long could see the reluctance hidden beneath it.
After all, voluntarily meeting Fu Fong was probably the last thing Bai Ming wanted to do.
Han Fuji had just finished checking the straps around his wrist when he noticed Bai Ming standing near the gate with a basket hanging from her arm.
A look of surprise crossed his face.
"So early?"
His voice immediately attracted everyone’s attention.
Bai Ming’s heart skipped for a brief moment.
Fortunately, her expression remained perfectly calm.
Han Fuji walked toward her, his brows slightly raised.
The morning sunlight fell across his face as he stopped a few steps away.
"Where are you going?"
For a fraction of a second, Bai Ming instinctively glanced toward Su Long.
The movement was so brief that most people would have missed it.
However, Su Long immediately understood.
The two women exchanged a quick look before Su Long calmly looked away as though nothing had happened.
Bai Ming silently thanked her.
Then she turned her attention back to Han Fuji.
Thankfully, lying had never been particularly difficult for her.
That was precisely why she had deliberately carried the basket.
It made her excuse far more believable.
She lifted it slightly.
"Fu Li and I didn’t manage to buy everything we needed yesterday."
Han Fuji looked at the basket.
Bai Ming continued naturally.
"We were delayed."
"There are still some things missing at home."
"So I thought I’d go early before the market becomes crowded."
Han Fuji nodded almost immediately.
The explanation sounded perfectly reasonable.
In fact, there was nothing suspicious about it at all.
After all, Bai Ming frequently handled household matters.
Buying supplies was hardly unusual.
"That makes sense."
A faint smile appeared on his face.
"Then get whatever you need."
Bai Ming secretly released a breath of relief.
Unfortunately, Han Fuji wasn’t finished.
He took another step closer.
"Should I go with you?"
The question nearly made Bai Ming choke.
For a moment, her smile almost cracked.
Thankfully, years of dealing with difficult situations allowed her to recover quickly.
She shook her head.
"No need."
Han Fuji looked unconvinced.
"It’s still early."
"I’ll be fine."
Before he could insist further, Bai Ming quickly added,
"You already have things to do today."
Her gaze shifted briefly toward Fu Sheng and Su Long.
"Besides, if you come with me, you’ll only end up complaining about carrying baskets."
Han Fuji immediately looked offended.
"When have I ever complained?"
Bai Ming stared at him.
Han Fuji stared back.
Several seconds passed.
Eventually, he rubbed his nose awkwardly.
"Fine."
"Maybe once or twice."
The corner of Bai Ming’s lips twitched upward.
Nearby, Su Long quietly lowered her head to hide her amusement.
Han Fuji pointed at the basket.
"Buy what you need and come straight home afterward."
His tone carried the casual concern of a husband speaking to his wife.
"There are too many strange people wandering around these days."
Bai Ming nodded obediently.
"I know."
"Don’t stay out too long."
"I won’t."
"Good."
Han Fuji seemed satisfied with that answer.
Without suspecting anything, he gently patted her shoulder before stepping back.
"Then go."
Bai Ming smiled.
"Alright."
She adjusted the basket on her arm before turning toward the gate.
As she walked away, she could feel Su Long’s gaze following her.
Neither woman spoke.
There was no need.
Both already knew where she was truly going.
A few moments later, Bai Ming disappeared beyond the entrance of the Fu residence.
Behind her, Han Fuji watched her leave before turning back toward the others.
"Women really do love shopping."
Fu Sheng rolled his eyes.
Su Long nearly laughed, "If only you knew where your wife was really heading."
Just then, Madam Fu suddenly walked over.
The moment she saw Fu Sheng preparing to leave, concern immediately appeared on her face.
"Fu Sheng."
Fu Sheng turned toward her.
"What is it, Mother?"
Madam Fu hesitated briefly.
Then her eyes drifted toward the courtyard where Fu Teng’s room was located.
Her expression immediately became troubled.
"What about your brother?"
The atmosphere quietly shifted.
Even Han Fuji stopped joking.
Madam Fu sighed.
"He still hasn’t spoken properly to anyone."
"He barely came out of his room."
Her voice carried obvious worry.
"What if he decides to leave again today?"
"What if he goes back to work?"
The mention of that immediately caused Fu Sheng’s expression to harden.
His answer came without hesitation.
"Don’t let him go."
Madam Fu blinked.
"What?"
Fu Sheng’s gaze remained fixed in the direction of Fu Teng’s room.
"He stays home."
"Today especially."
"He cannot leave the residence."
Madam Fu frowned.
"But why?"
Fu Sheng remained silent.
The familiar silence immediately returned.
The same silence that had frustrated everyone yesterday.
Master Fu rubbed his forehead.. as a sigh escaped his lips.
Eventually Madam Fu spoke again.
"You keep saying that."
"You keep telling us not to let him leave."
Her eyes narrowed.
"But you still won’t explain why."
For a brief moment guilt flashed across Fu Sheng’s face.
Then it disappeared.
He lowered his eyes.
"When the time comes, you’ll understand."
Madam Fu was clearly dissatisfied with that answer.
Unfortunately, it was the only answer she was going to receive.
Nearby, Su Long quietly watched the exchange.
She knew exactly why Fu Sheng was refusing to explain.
Because if the truth came out now, everything would become even more chaotic.
Unfortunately...
The longer they kept silent, the more suspicious Fu Teng would become.
And at that very moment, hidden behind the partially opened window of his room, Fu Teng stood silently watching the courtyard below.
Every word had reached his ears.
Every single one.
Especially Fu Sheng’s final statement.
He cannot leave the residence.
A cold expression slowly appeared on Fu Teng’s face.
The more everyone tried to stop him...
The more convinced he became that something important was being hidden from him.
And he had absolutely no intention of remaining in the dark forever.
