Eli’s ‍‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‍consciousness slowly rose from a heavy darkness, like a drowning man finally touching the surface of the water.

He ‍‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‍opened his eyes in a daze.

The ‍‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‍first thing that entered his sight was Lynn, sleeping beside the bed.

Her ‍‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‍face was turned to the side, pillowed on her arm. Her long eyelashes cast a small shadow beneath her eyes, and her breathing was even and soft.

Eli ‍‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‍tried to turn his somewhat stiff neck, sweeping his gaze over the room.

The decorations were unfamiliar, splendid yet dignified, and the air was filled with the faint fragrance of herbs…

He tried to move his body. The moment he shifted slightly,

a violent soreness instantly swept through his entire body, making him draw in a sharp breath and let out a faint muffled groan.

That tiny movement instantly woke the lightly sleeping Lynn.

She abruptly raised her head, her eyes still carrying traces of drowsiness.

When she saw Eli with his eyes open, looking at her somewhat awkwardly, a layer of mist instantly covered those beautiful eyes.

“Uh… I just wanted to move a little. I did not mean to wake you…”

Eli looked at her eyes, which had instantly reddened, and explained somewhat helplessly.

He did not manage to finish his words.

Lynn’s tears rolled down silently like pearls from a snapped string.

She made no sound. She merely threw herself forward and hugged him tightly, burying her face deep in his arms.

Eli could clearly feel her body trembling slightly.

Eli froze for a moment, then a warm current surged through his heart.

He smiled, though the movement tugged at his injuries and made the corner of his mouth twitch slightly.

Even so, he still worked hard to open his arms and hug her back, gently stroking her head.

Her muffled sobs came from his arms. “Uu… uu…”

“What is wrong, Your Highness? Am I not perfectly fine?”

“Do you know… uu…” Lynn raised her tear-blurred face.

“When I saw them carry you back… you were covered in blood and unconscious…

I… I was so afraid… I thought… I thought you… uuu.”

She could not continue and only hugged him even tighter.

“You are not allowed to do that again! You are not allowed to force yourself! You are not allowed to suffer such serious injuries again!”

Eli gently stroked the back of her head, feeling her soft hair, and comforted her in a low voice.

“Of course I will not. I promise you.”

He paused, trying to dispel the sorrowful atmosphere.

“We have not even had children yet. If I died just like that, would all my hard work not have gone to waste? That would be far too much of a loss.”

Those shameless words indeed worked.

“Hmph! All you know is how to run your mouth! You are already injured this badly, yet you still cannot behave properly!”

She scolded him coquettishly, but the sadness and worry on her face had indeed faded considerably.

After that, the two of them quietly embraced for a while, enjoying this brief warmth and peace.

A little later, Lynn seemed to finally remember something. She gently pushed him back onto the soft pillow and carefully tucked the blanket around him.

“Rest properly! You are not allowed to move around again! I… I will go call my maternal uncle.”

After saying this, she wiped the tear stains that had not yet dried from her face with the back of her hand, then turned and quickly left the room.

Eli watched her back disappear through the doorway and smiled helplessly. He could only lie down obediently as she had told him.

He closed his eyes and tried to slowly circulate the somewhat sluggish battle aura inside his body according to the path of the Raven Breathing Technique.

The battle aura flowed like a warm stream, slowly moving through his damaged meridians and muscles, nourishing his overdrawn body.

After carefully sensing it, he was surprised to discover that although the soreness throughout his body was unbearable,

the total amount and purity of his battle aura seemed to have risen by a level compared to before.

That life-and-death battle with Sessen, along with the enormous pressure and eruption of power, had actually allowed him to benefit from disaster and break through to the Mid-Silver Tier in one stroke.

The increase in strength brought him a trace of joy, but immediately afterward, his brows furrowed slightly.

He recalled the incomparably vivid experience before he lost consciousness. That cold, violent power filled with the aura of darkness and destruction.

Was that old Butler Sebastian’s power?

This power was far too strange. It was filled with… a kind of dark and evil taste.

Moreover, the aftereffects were extremely serious…

Just as he was thinking, a somewhat disorderly sound of footsteps came from outside the door, interrupting his thoughts.

With a creak, the door was pushed open.

Eli looked up.

He saw Lynn returning. Behind her was Lucius, whose figure was upright, as well as the old butler Sebastian.

Apart from them, there was also an old man wearing a plain white robe, with a kind face and a simple wooden staff in his hand.

Lucius glanced at Eli and confirmed that he had indeed awakened. A trace of relaxation flashed through his eyes.

Then he turned to the white-robed old man, his tone carrying a hint of courtesy.

“Bishop Tim, I will trouble you.”

The old man addressed as Bishop Tim responded with a kindly smile, his voice gentle.

“Lord Lucius, there is no need to be so courteous. It is this old man’s honor to offer a small measure of help to the hero who defended Thorne City.”

The visitor was none other than Tim, the white-robed bishop of Thorne City Cathedral.

In the Kingdom of Orlando, white-robed bishops held an exalted status and were usually only established in the capital of a territory.

Thus, there were only four in the entire Kingdom of Orlando, in addition to the Pope at the Cathedral of Light in the royal capital.

However, in recent years, with the changing of the times, the suppression by successive kings, and the people’s increasing focus on real life,

the influence of the Church of Light had also slowly weakened. It no longer held the lofty status it had possessed several centuries ago.

Bishop Tim slowly walked to the bedside, smiled kindly at Eli, then extended a wrinkled hand and gently placed it on Eli’s forehead.

His palm was warm and dry. A gentle energy, like warm sunlight,

slowly seeped into Eli’s body and flowed toward the injured places in his limbs and bones.

Eli felt a comfortable warmth dispel the soreness and exhaustion in his body.

A moment later, Bishop Tim withdrew his hand, still wearing a gentle smile on his face.

“May the God of Light protect him. Baron Pendragon’s physical constitution far exceeds that of ordinary people, and he is recovering very well.

In this old man’s view, he only needs to quietly recuperate for roughly three more days, and Lord Baron will be restored to his original condition, perhaps even better than before.”

“That is wonderful!” When Lynn heard this, brilliant and genuine joy instantly bloomed on her face.

Lucius also nodded slightly and once again expressed his thanks to Bishop Tim. “Thank you for personally coming, Bishop Tim.”

“It was a simple matter.” Bishop Tim smiled and waved his hand. Then he turned back, looked gently at Eli, and issued an invitation that somewhat surprised Eli.

“After Baron Eli recovers, would you be willing to visit Thorne Cathedral?

This old man would be willing to personally introduce you to the teachings of the God of Light and the scenery of the cathedral.”

A territorial bishop is personally inviting me? A trace of doubt rose in Eli’s heart.

He had never had any dealings with the Church. Why had this bishop suddenly issued an invitation?

Was it because of his performance in the defense battle? Or had he sensed some kind of… aura?

Thoughts turned in his heart, but Eli did not reveal them on his face. He merely nodded politely and accepted.

“It is my honor to be personally invited by you, Bishop. Once my body recovers, I will certainly visit.”

Bishop Tim nodded gently, the smile on his face unchanged. “May the Holy Light protect you. I look forward to your arrival.”

“Lord Lucius, Miss Aila, since the baron is no longer in danger, this old man will take his leave first.”

Lucius gave Lynn a signal. “Aila, see Bishop Tim out for me.”

Lynn obediently answered, stepped forward to support Bishop Tim’s arm, and accompanied him out.

The old butler Sebastian was also extremely tactful and knew that Lucius and Eli had something to discuss.

Without needing any instructions, he followed Lynn and Bishop Tim out of the room and gently closed the door.

Inside the room, only Eli and Lucius remained.

For a time, the atmosphere was somewhat quiet.

Eli looked at Lucius, whose face showed no expression, and helplessly took the initiative to break the silence.

“Lord Lucius.”

“Mm.” Lucius hummed a syllable from his nose, which counted as a response.

He walked to the bedside and remained silent for a few seconds. “You did well. This battle was thanks to you.”

That brief sentence contained far too much meaning.

As for what meaning it contained? Eli had no way of knowing. (Playful)

Eli smiled. “It was all thanks to your wise and valiant command, as well as the bloody perseverance of all the soldiers.”

When Lucius heard this, he looked at Eli’s deliberately serious appearance, and a faint smile appeared on his cold face.

“Enough. There is no need for polite words.”

“I will hold the engagement ceremony for you and Lynn in two days. As for your viscount promotion document and the survey of your new fief…”

He paused and looked at Eli’s eyes, which had instantly brightened.

“After you can get out of bed and move around, come to my study and discuss it with me in detail.”

Viscount! Fief!

Although Eli had already been mentally prepared, hearing Lucius personally confirm it still sent a surge of excitement and satisfaction through his heart.

He nodded solemnly. “Yes, Lord Lucius. I will come find you as soon as possible.”

Seeing this, Lucius did not remain any longer and turned to walk toward the door.

Just as his hand touched the door handle, Eli suddenly called out to him. “Lord Lucius.”

Lucius’s steps paused.

A slightly teasing smile appeared on Eli’s face as he reminded him, “Do not forget to close the door.”

The corner of Lucius’s mouth twitched slightly. He turned back and glanced at Eli.

In the end, he said nothing more, opened the door, and walked straight out.

Click.

The door was gently closed.

In the empty corridor, however, Lucius’s steady yet slightly lighter footsteps sounded, gradually fading into the distance.
