Chapter 983: Not Enough
Chapter 983: Not Enough
During his time in the capital city, Michael had naturally heard bits and pieces regarding the Dragon Transformation Pool.
However, he had never paid too much attention to those rumors. After all, information surrounding treasures tied to powerful factions was always exaggerated to some extent.
Since he originally had no connection to the pool, Michael had never bothered separating truth from fiction.
Still, there were a few things he believed were most likely accurate. The biggest among them was that the Dragon Transformation Pool was probably the true foundation behind the Lionheart royal family’s bloodline continuation.
After all, bloodlines were not something guaranteed to pass perfectly through generations. Just because one’s father or mother possessed a powerful bloodline did not mean the child would inherit it completely.
At most, unless they were especially unlucky, descendants would still retain traces of the bloodline. Those traces alone could already strengthen physique, talent, and foundation far beyond ordinary people.
However, as generations passed, those traces naturally became thinner and thinner. The chances of awakening the original bloodline would gradually decrease.
Sometimes, a bloodline could even disappear entirely for many generations before someone awakened it again by chance.
Yet the Lionheart royal family had managed to maintain their bloodline for centuries. That alone already spoke volumes.
And since the kingdom had once offered Michael the opportunity to enter the pool, that also meant even outsiders without the Lionheart bloodline could still benefit from it to a certain degree.
Michael’s gaze lowered once more toward the golden stone resting quietly inside the box.
It was said the Dragon Transformation Pool had been left behind by the first King of Lionheart himself. The royal family truly has good things. I wonder what the empire keeps in their own treasury.
For this, Michael couldn’t help but feel a little greedy. After all, their strongest being had been able to give him benefits even after death. The empire would only offer more. Unfortunately, unless the empire showed intention of going after him, Michael still very much preferred peace.
Michael’s gaze remained on the golden stone for several more seconds before he finally looked back toward Princess Priscilla.
"Since this piece came from the Dragon Transformation Pool itself, then naturally it should be considered a treasure."
His fingers lightly tapped against the edge of the box. "But what exactly am I supposed to do with it?"
Michael’s tone remained calm. "After all, this isn’t the pool itself."
Internally, another thought surfaced in Michael’s mind.
Honestly, it would have been even better if they had simply handed the entire pool over to me.
Unfortunately, Michael also knew that was most likely impossible. The Dragon Transformation Pool was the Lionheart Kingdom’s foundation. Handing over the entire thing would be equivalent to crippling the royal family’s future bloodline generations.
They would very much prefer to hand over the head of the Tenth Prince as an apology rather than the pool. Of course he could also take it by force, but the pool wasn’t something irreplaceable enough for him to take such a step.
Princess Priscilla naturally misunderstood Michael’s words somewhat. She thought he was dissatisfied with the fragment itself.
After a brief silence, she calmly explained, "This fragment came directly from the pool’s core."
"The moment it was separated, the Dragon Transformation Pool’s foundation was damaged significantly."
Her expression became slightly heavier afterward. "To restore what was lost, the royal family will likely need to spend an enormous amount of resources over many years."
Michael listened quietly.
Truthfully speaking, he did not care much about that explanation. Whether the royal family’s treasure had been damaged or not had nothing to do with him.
The moment the Tenth Prince publicly pointed suspicion toward him in front of the empire, his life had been dragged into danger because of their actions. Compared to that, a damaged treasure foundation meant little to him. After all, it wasn’t his to begin with.
Princess Priscilla seemed to sense Michael’s indifferent thoughts and inwardly sighed in understanding.
From Michael’s perspective, the kingdom’s losses were unrelated to him. After all, he had been the one almost pushed beneath imperial suspicion.
Why should he care whether the compensation hurt the royal family or not?
Princess Priscilla continued speaking calmly. "Although this fragment no longer possesses the complete abilities of the Dragon Transformation Pool, it still contains extremely pure bloodline essence."
"It can temper the body, nourish vitality, improve affinity toward bloodline energy, and strengthen one’s foundation."
"Even for someone of my level, this would instantly boost my power by at least half. It can also be used as a material to forge a powerful weapon."
Michael lightly rubbed the surface of the stone again. He didn’t really doubt the princess’s words. To be honest, he was now thinking it was a pity he had not possessed this thing when he was empowering his undead High Drake. Perhaps with something like this, it might have crossed into the next rank or come even closer to it.
Unfortunately it was too late for that.
As for himself, he could tell the treasure could also strengthen him. Half was probably an exaggeration, but thirty percent was very possible. Though Michael also valued personal strength, a couple hundred stat points wasn’t enough to fully settle him.
Of course, since the treasure was now in his hands, he had no intention of giving it back. Especially since he had greater use for it.
Just when I thought Lucky was unlucky last time, his name really did bring him some luck. With this, after evolution I’ll have another strong undead at Rank 4.
Michael quietly listened to Princess Priscilla’s explanation before finally nodding slightly. "It’s not bad."
His fingers lightly tapped against the edge of the box again. "But compared to the amount of trouble the prince’s actions caused me..."
Michael looked up calmly. "This sincerity is still somewhat lacking."
The atmosphere in the room became quiet again. Arianne looked slightly nervous after hearing Michael directly say such words to the grand princess.
