Chapter 981: Just This Strong?
Chapter 981: Just This Strong?
Princess Priscilla and Arianne were visibly taken aback by Michael’s question.
For a second, neither of them even knew how to react.
Their expressions became strangely complicated.
Was that truly the thought process a normal person should have after learning they had potentially attracted the attention of the empire?
Most people in Michael’s situation would first worry about the possibility of an undeserved death, yet Michael had skipped all of that entirely and gone straight to Legendary beings.
It was like hearing that a household was targeting you and instead of asking how many sons or daughters they had, you immediately asked how many grandparents were still alive.
What kind of thinking was this?
Even Princess Priscilla, who had already considered Michael abnormal, felt momentarily speechless.
Arianne looked at Michael as though trying to confirm whether he was serious.
Unfortunately—
His expression remained perfectly calm.
Meaning he genuinely was serious.
Princess Priscilla eventually let out a faint sigh.
Michael tilted his head slightly in confusion. What was with the two women’s reactions? If they didn’t know the answer to the question, why put him in suspense like this?
"I don’t think you should worry about the empire’s Legendary beings," Princess Priscilla said as she lightly rubbed her forehead.
"Fortunately for us, Legendary existences are not people who move casually because of matters like this."
Her expression became more serious afterward.
"Even for the empire, those beings are strategic pillars. Unless the situation escalates to an extreme level, they would not personally interfere, so you don’t need to worry."
Michael nodded faintly after hearing that.
"So do you know how many they have?"
At this point, Princess Priscilla could not help but frown slightly.
Why was Michael so focused on this question?
From beginning to end, he showed almost no concern toward the empire itself. Instead, all his attention seemed locked onto one thing only.
Suddenly, a thought surfaced in her mind and her expression changed faintly.
Michael’s identity had always been wrapped in mystery.
Especially after the reveal of his Rank 3 bodyguards, he seemed to be shrouded in even more of it.
Now that she thought about it carefully...
For Michael to immediately ask about the empire’s highest combat power, was it possible he possessed some means of dealing with them?
Or perhaps protection against them?
Was he trying to determine whether he truly needed to worry or not?
The more Princess Priscilla thought about it, the more likely the possibility seemed.
Yet at the same time, she still found it difficult to believe.
Legendary beings were not existences one simply dealt with.
Each of them stood at the peak of countless lives of cultivation.
What exactly was Michael relying on?
And more importantly—
If Michael truly possessed means capable of threatening even Legendary beings...
Then what exactly did that mean for the Lionheart Kingdom?
Compared to the Black Serpent Empire, the Lionheart Kingdom was insignificant.
If her foolish nephew had really provoked someone tied to such terrifying power...
Then he may very well have dragged disaster toward the royal family itself.
The thought made Princess Priscilla inwardly furious.
Though outwardly, she remained calm.
After several moments of thought, she finally decided to answer honestly.
"Publicly, the empire currently possesses three Legendary beings."
Michael listened quietly.
Princess Priscilla continued.
"As for hidden ones... nobody truly knows."
"It is said one among the three is already close to the Divine Stage."
Above the Legendary stage was the Divine Stage.
A realm capable of shaking kingdoms with a single thought.
After saying this, Princess Priscilla carefully observed Michael’s expression.
Unfortunately, she found nothing.
His face remained as calm as still water.
At this point, even she began doubting herself.
Was he truly calm?
Or was his self-control simply terrifying?
Meanwhile, Michael silently processed the information.
Three public Legendary beings. One close to the Divine Stage.
If I have to guess, that being said to be close to the Divine Stage is probably the one Shojo killed. Putting aside the possibility of them having another one hidden, that means the empire only has two Rank 4 beings. At least on the surface.
This information pleased him somewhat. After all, if the empire only had two Legendary beings they were probably no problem for him, since he had as many as four. Even if they had another person close to the Divine Stage, as long as they hadn’t crossed that threshold it was still manageable, since he also had an undead of similar strength with an extra one to spare against their three.
Of course it was possible this was only their surface strength. For an empire that had existed for hundreds of years, they most likely had more trump cards.
Michael didn’t want to underestimate such a power and suffer a heavy loss, however he also didn’t undermine himself. Since the empire was only this strong on the surface, it was fine even if they knew he had killed their prince.
Michael would never feel guilt over that death. That bastard had wanted to kill him. If he had been weaker, he would have been the one dead, so why would he feel guilty?
Princess Priscilla saw the faint smile remain on Michael’s face and felt even more uneasy.
Both she and Arianne had expected many possible reactions after mentioning the empire.
Shock.
Anger.
Fear.
Even panic.
But smiling?
That was the one reaction neither of them had expected.
Especially after knowing Michael had been informed of the empire’s Legendary beings.
At this point, even Arianne could not help but feel that Michael’s mentality was somewhat abnormal.
Meanwhile, Michael’s gaze returned calmly toward Princess Priscilla.
"Since that question has been answered, perhaps we should return to the previous topic?"
Princess Priscilla immediately understood what he meant.
The apology.
Michael leaned slightly back in his chair.
"Surely Your Highness understands the gravity of this matter and the amount of trouble this has potentially caused me."
Princess Priscilla sighed softly.
"I do."
With a wave of her hand, spatial fluctuations appeared briefly beside her.
Soon, a beautifully decorated black box appeared atop the table.
