Chapter 970: Information [2]
Chapter 970: Information [2]
In the end Michael felt he should intervene before any words were exchanged.
Though Michael had a bad impression of the Federation, it did not extend to Brian. This was still someone Michael very much respected, so seeing him in an awkward position made Michael feel a bit awkward as well.
In any case, Michael did not believe the academy would hide the information from the Federation since both parties were in cooperation. There was no need to complicate things.
"Teacher Brian, there’s no need to complicate things. I assure you the academy will share any information they deem important with you. After all, what I know might not necessarily be different from what you already have."
After hearing Michael’s words, Brian felt a little better and did not cause any further trouble.
Soon only Michael and Director Lin were left in the office.
The atmosphere became noticeably quieter after the others left.
Director Lin was the first to speak.
"So," she said calmly, "what exactly is this information you have?"
"As long as the demonic faction has not suddenly relocated everything within the past few days," Michael said slowly, "I know ten strongholds within the country alone that should satisfy the Federation’s goal of striking hard."
Director Lin’s pupils narrowed faintly.
Ten. Not two. Not three. Ten. Even she and the Federation only knew five.
"Say them," she said immediately. "I want to see how much overlap exists with our own information."
However, when she said that, a rather awkward expression appeared on Michael’s face.
Director Lin immediately noticed it.
Michael lightly scratched his cheek before speaking somewhat softly.
"...Before that, I actually wanted to ask the academy for something."
Director Lin stared at him for a second, then suddenly laughed lightly.
As someone who had lived for many years, she immediately understood what Michael was doing.
He wanted to trade.
She felt this was perfectly normal. Though she did not know how this youth had obtained his information, it was probably not easy. Expecting him to simply hand it over for free was too much.
Information of this level absolutely possessed exchange value.
Director Lin crossed her arms slightly.
"What do you want?"
This kind of straightforward conversation was exactly what Michael had hoped for.
He did not hesitate any longer.
"I want access to the academy’s higher grade dimensional cracks."
Director Lin blinked in surprise. Clearly, that was not the request she had expected.
For a brief moment she almost asked why, then she remembered Michael was a Necromancer.
Immediately, the question became unnecessary.
Dimensional cracks were filled with monsters, and monsters meant corpses. To a Necromancer, they were practically resource mines.
Fortunately he had not asked her to settle his debts. At least for now that matter had been left alone until the dean and vice dean returned.
After thinking briefly, Director Lin finally spoke.
"If your information is truly worth it," she said slowly, "then not only will I grant you access to the academy’s dimensional cracks, I’ll personally negotiate with the Federation and have them open some of theirs to you as well."
Michael’s heartbeat quickened slightly.
That was exactly what he wanted.
Compared to the academy, the Federation controlled considerably more dimensional cracks throughout Aurora.
After all, the Federation was the true giant of the realm.
If he gained access to both, the speed at which his undead legion could progress would increase drastically.
Especially now, since his current bottleneck was not talent but time.
This deal would shorten the time needed to evolve his undead to Rank 4, and during that same period he could push himself to the peak of Rank 3 as well.
Michael suppressed the excitement in his heart and kept his expression relatively calm.
"Then I believe we can cooperate very well," he said.
Director Lin snorted lightly.
"You sound more like a businessman than a student."
Michael smiled slightly. His days playing noble in the land of Origin had their merits. They were one of the main reasons his bearing was rather refined, aside from the confidence that had grown alongside his power.
"Being poor is difficult, Director Lin. I’m sure you know my circumstances. If I wasn’t a supernatural, even eating would be a problem!"
Michael cried poor at Director Lin.
Director Lin looked at him strangely for a second.
Did he think she was unaware of his actions back in Brightgate? This youth was not quite the honest type.
Still, she did not dwell on it.
"Now," she said, "the information."
Michael nodded, then his expression became serious.
For the next few minutes he shared the ten locations he had already prepared to reveal.
At the end, much to the surprise of both Michael and Director Lin, only three locations overlapped between his information and what the academy and Federation already had.
For Michael, he was surprised by their efficiency. He had possessed insider information, after all, even if some of it was now outdated since the demonic supernatural had been unaware of the demonic faction’s plan this time.
For Director Lin, the fact that only three locations overlapped was striking. What Michael did not know was that it was precisely because of these overlaps that his information gained credibility, making her considerably more convinced that the other seven locations were legitimate.
"How exactly did you obtain this information?" Director Lin finally asked.
This time there was genuine disbelief in her voice.
Michael simply smiled faintly.
"I have my own methods," he said calmly.
For some reason, after talking with Director Lin, Michael felt more at ease. He got the sense that she would not give him too much trouble as long as he did not disrespect her, which made him abandon his prepared excuses. He was right.
Director Lin stared at him for several moments, then eventually shook her head.
Everyone had secrets.
This much was obvious in Michael’s case. Whether it was his class change or his terrifying growth in under a year, none of it was normal. Even great fortune and talent were not enough to explain it.
Thinking of Michael’s growth, Director Lin grew curious and decided to check if there had been any changes to his level. Though she doubted the possibility given that only a week had passed since they last met, she was curious nonetheless.
"Fuck!"
Immediately a curse rang out from the office and echoed through other parts of the secret realm.
