Evolving My Undead Legion In A Game-Like World

Chapter 952: Naughty Undead

Chapter 952: Naughty Undead

It fell freely down his back, slightly disordered, lacking the natural flow and vitality that Michael’s hair possessed.

His eyes, a familiar shade of green, were the most telling difference. Where Michael’s gaze was sharp and alive, Jester’s appeared dulled, as though a thin veil had been drawn over them.

However that was not the biggest difference about Jester compared to a few hours ago when Michael had last seen him.

After evolving, Jester had levelled up to level 68, three levels higher than Michael had been before his own opportunity. Now it was ten levels lower.

Just what had happened?

Michael’s brows furrowed slightly as he straightened in his seat.

"What happened to you?"

His voice was calm, but there was a clear edge to it. The change was too obvious to ignore.

Jester, however, did not react much. His expression remained as composed as ever, his posture straight and steady despite the visible changes.

"I made use of my law ability," he replied.

Then, after a brief pause, he added, "It would seem I bit off more than I could chew."

Michael’s gaze sharpened immediately.

He recalled the details of Jester’s law.

[Law of Heavenly Revelation]

A law that allows its user to perceive the hidden structure of fate as an interconnected web of possibilities. Through this, the user can analyze how events, choices, and outcomes are linked, enabling accurate foresight. By applying calculation and precise control, the user can subtly influence these pathways, guiding events toward desired results.

Michael remembered that the cost of using this law was that it demanded essence from the user. For ordinary calculations it was manageable.

Had Jester gone ahead and calculated something outrageous? Thinking of his choice of words, it seemed very possible.

"Explain."

Jester inclined his head slightly.

"As Master is aware, my law allows interaction with fate. Prediction, interference, redirection. All of these fall within its scope."

Michael said nothing, letting him continue.

Jester continued without hesitation.

"However, the range of my ability is currently too limited. During the last test with Master, I was only able to perceive those two individuals because they were within my sensory range. My calculations were anchored to what I could directly observe."

"That is a severe limitation."

Michael did not interrupt.

"Putting aside personal use, such a restriction greatly reduces the value of my law to Master. If I must rely solely on what I can see or sense, then its application becomes no different from an enhanced perception ability."

"So you tried to bypass it?"

"Yes."

Jester nodded faintly.

"I dug deeper into the structure of the law." His voice remained even, but there was a subtle shift beneath it. "Using direct sensory input is merely a crude method. It is not the true form of interaction."

"Then what is?"

"Connections."

The word hung in the air.

"Fate does not require proximity," Jester continued. "It requires linkage. A target can be calculated through identifiers tied to them. A memory of their appearance. A personal item. A name that carries recognition. Repeated interactions. The more defined the connection, the higher the accuracy. Such as the soul tie between Master and I."

Michael’s eyes narrowed.

A faint, suspicious thought surfaced in his mind.

"Jester."

His voice lowered slightly.

"What did you do?"

Jester seemed to catch the shift in Michael’s gaze. "I would never harm Master."

His tone remained calm, but there was a clear firmness behind it.

Michael waved a hand lightly. "That’s not what I’m worried about."

And it truly was not. Between his rank, his class, and the nature of his control, the possibility of his undead actively seeking to harm him was close to nonexistent.

Jester inclined his head slightly, then continued.

"When I sensed the soul tie between us, I grew curious."

Michael said nothing, but his eyes remained fixed on him.

"So I followed it further," Jester added.

A brief silence passed.

"And?"

Jester’s dull green eyes flickered faintly.

"When observing Master’s fate, I noticed something unusual."

Michael’s expression did not change, but his attention sharpened considerably.

"There were many possible paths," Jester said. "But one was different."

"Different how?"

"Brighter."

The word was vague.

"It stood out clearly from the rest," Jester continued. "To me it felt like a great opportunity. That was my initial conclusion. However, despite its brightness, it carried instability. It had a high likelihood of not occurring naturally, as though it required specific conditions to be realized."

That made Michael’s expression shift.

"What did you see?"

"When I attempted to observe further, the cost increased significantly," Jester said. "Even passive observation began draining a large amount of essence from my original body. The strain extended to this vessel as well."

Jester went on.

"In the vision, I saw Master. You were speaking with another figure."

"Another figure?"

"Yes."

Jester’s tone remained steady.

"However, I could not perceive it clearly. If I could not see it, then it is either bound by a special fate or exists at a level beyond my current capacity to observe."

Michael did not respond immediately, but the odd expression on his face became more pronounced.

Jester continued.

"That figure was connected to the bright fate I observed. I could not determine its identity, but I confirmed its relevance."

"Go on."

"I saw Master engage in battle with that existence," Jester said.

Michael’s eyes narrowed.

"And?"

"You were victorious."

Silence.

"Then?"

Jester shook his head slightly. "That is where the vision became unstable. I could not see what was gained from that outcome. I could not trace the result any further."

Michael’s expression remained strange as his gaze stayed fixed on Jester.

"So you decided to interfere."

Jester nodded. "I attempted to push that fate forward since it appeared beneficial, but the cost exceeded my expectations."

Michael let out a slow breath.

"Clearly."

A brief silence settled between them.

"Jester."

Michael called out quietly.

"You’re quite a naughty undead."

"....."
