Evolving My Undead Legion In A Game-Like World

Chapter 477 Another Awakener

Chapter 477: Chapter 477 Another Awakener

The man let out a low whistle and muttered, “…Now that’s some speed.”

Though the man was just a clerk, he wasn’t ignorant. He knew what it took to push through two ranks that quickly. Unless someone was carrying you, giving you full support, or you had monstrous efficiency… it just wasn’t normal.

He gave Michael a look that was a mix of admiration and curiosity. “Are you taking the college exams too?”

Michael nodded again.

The man leaned back and let out a soft breath. “Damn. Guess you’re aiming for the Awakeners’ Academy, huh?”

The man scratched his chin.

’Well, I suppose it makes sense then. He probably focused everything on rushing his advancement just to meet the benchmark. That would’ve drained his combat edge, but… that’s not my place to say.’

He smiled faintly and didn’t press the topic.

Still, he couldn’t help but marvel internally.

Three months.

Three.

The man tapped a few more buttons, syncing Michael’s ID token with the system.

“Well, your request for rank update is valid,” he said. “Now, normally, the system can verify cultivation rank directly through internal mana or physical scans. But when it comes to Awakeners…”—he gave a helpless shrug—”there’s too much variability.”

Michael tilted his head. “Because of different classes?”

“Exactly,” the man said. “Different classes. Different stats. Some can fake power readings. Physical or special type classes barely give off mana at all. So it’s hard to measure the rank of awakeners.”

He reached under the desk and pulled out a sleek, palm-sized device. It looked like a black box with a glowing silver seal on top.

“That’s why we require verification from another registered Awakener of at least the same rank. They don’t need to know you personally. They just need to confirm your level.”

Michael frowned slightly. “I didn’t bring anyone.”

“No worries,” the man said. “We have standby examiners. It’ll just take a few minutes.”

He tapped a panel beside him.

A moment later, a chime echoed across the lobby.

“Rank Verification Examiner requested to Desk 4. Please respond.”

Michael folded his arms, waiting silently.

After about two minutes, a side door opened, and a woman in a dark blue uniform stepped through. She was tall, lean, and wore fingerless.

Her eyes landed on Michael. “Is this the candidate?”

The desk clerk nodded. “Rank 2 Awakener. Needs verification.”

“Please, follow me.”

Michael followed her through a corridor that led to a private room.

The room was sparse—just a single desk, two chairs, and a monitor built into the wall. Clean, quiet, professional.

But what caught Michael’s attention wasn’t the decor.

It was the man seated at the desk.

He looked… normal. Late thirties. Clean-cut, wearing a high-collared gray coat with the Supers Association crest on the shoulder. A stack of digital documents hovered beside him, and he was currently reviewing one, stylus in hand, face calm and unreadable.

Despite the man’s seemingly mundane presence, the atmosphere in the room shifted the moment Michael stepped in.

Based on the current situation, this man should be an Awakener.

“Please sit,” the man said, not looking up from his tablet.

“Yes.”

“You’re the new Rank 2?” The mab asked, voice level.

“Yes.”

“Hm.”

The man tilted his head slightly. “I’ll be the one verifying your rank. As a fellow awakener, you know this won’t take long.”

Michael nodded.

He didn’t use [Detect] on the man.

Not because he didn’t want to. But because if this man was sensitive to perception probes, then that would be a bad first impression.

Not everyone was Teacher Brian.

He was also an awakener, after all. Only heaven knew how strong he was.

Soon, Michael felt a gaze on him.

The man’s calm, practiced gaze lingered on Michael longer than expected.

At first, his expression was neutral—polite, professional. But then, something shifted.

His brow furrowed ever so slightly.

Michael didn’t move, letting the silence stretch.

Then the man finally spoke. His voice was slower now. More thoughtful.

“Are you here to register as a newly advanced Rank 2… or to update your rank?”

Michael immediately understood what was going on, and couldn’t help but smile weakly in his mind.

So that’s what it was.

To most people, a newly advanced Rank 2 Awakener would be around Level 26 at best. That was the standard reward if you completed the bare minimum during your Advancement Quest. A one-level boost from Level 25 to 26.

But Michael was currently Level 40.

There was nothing “newly advanced” about that.

It didn’t add up.

Unless you knew the truth.

Michael had performed exceptionally well during his Advancement Quest. So well, in fact, that he had been rewarded with fifteen full levels. A feat most would immediately call impossible.

To anyone unaware of that, however, it looked like he was lying… or trolling the Association’s records.

Michael offered a faint, polite smile. “I’m here to do both.”

The man didn’t return the smile.

The man finally set down the stylus.

He stared at Michael for a long beat, then leaned back in his chair. His fingers tapped absently against the desk as he asked, “What year did you awaken?”

Michael answered calmly, “This year. Around three months ago.”

That earned a pause.

A long one.

The man hadn’t asked the question earlier when they went to get Michael. But now that it had been said aloud, he felt the weight of that timeframe settle on him.

Three months.

That wasn’t rapid.

That was absurd.

He hid his reaction well, but internally, a storm of thoughts stirred.

Three months? Even if it had been a full two years, this level of progress would be considered elite. But three months?

The man narrowed his eyes slightly—not in suspicion, but in curiosity.

If nothing happened, this youth would undoubtedly qualify for one of the Federation’s prestigious Awakener Academies. No question. But that wasn’t what intrigued him.

The man exhaled quietly.

He’s like me back then…

He, too, was an Awakener. But unlike those who awakened at age 16 or 17, he’d only awakened three months before his own college entrance exams.

Too late to do much.
