Chapter 365: Umbrella Group
Chapter 365: Umbrella Group
Weaving through the crowded streets they finally reached the entrance to the Umbrella estate, where they had to pass through the bustling grand gates.
There was a long line of carriages and merchants waiting to enter the estate, but Malakai had no intention of waiting in line.
He walked to the front of the line, drawing multiple shouts from the people on the line. But the moment they saw who he was, the line fell into a hushed silence. Instead, only whispers echoed.
“Isn’t that the Ninth Vein? What’s he doing in the city?”
“He looks taller, or is it me?”
“He’s so handsome.”
“That’s a Blood Captain’s jacket. Why is he wearing it?”
“Wait! Why is his aura synergy stage!?”
A loud clamor broke out the moment they felt Malakai’s synergy stage aura. None of them could believe what they were seeing.
The matters of Sylvastein were still being kept under wraps, and none knew Malakai’s involvement in what had transpired.
The guards stationed at the gates wondered what was going on, but frowned when they saw two figures cutting the line.
One of them stepped forward.
“Who are yo—” the moment he saw who it was, it was like someone hit a pause on his body. He froze.
“N-ninth v-vein.”
“Open the gate.”
The guard felt their bodies moving instinctively before they could even realize. They were each synergy stage evolvers, but found themselves overwhelmed by his presence.
They felt compelled to listen to his every word.
“Y-yes.”
The gate swung open before they knew it, and it was only Malakai and Renlo were long gone before they realized what had occurred.
“We’re dead. The Sixth Pulse will have our heads.” The one who opened the gate said.
“YOUR head. You were the one who opened the fucking gates! Don’t involve me in this crisis!”
“No no no! I’m not taking the fall for this. None of you tried to stop him!”
The guards removed their gazes and cleared their throats. “Hey, he’s a Vein right? Isn’t there a rule that we can’t touch a Vein or something.”
“Yeah yeah!” The first man said in realization. “We can say he opened the gates himself! As lowly guards, we couldn’t possibly touch a Vein.”
“By the dome, that’s genius!”
“Relax, the Sixth Pulse has to believe it first.”
“Right right. You opened the gates, go tell her.”
The man who opened the gate glared at the others. They each stared at him, urging him to call the Sixth Pulse.
’Bunch of pussies.’ The man clicked his tongue and wandered off to the side, tapping his lifeguard.
As the guards all stared at him with tensed expressions, he focused on the call button. He breathed in and out multiple times, he couldn’t stop his heart from being fast.
’Relax, it’s a good plan.’ He reassured himself, then tapped the device.
…
Within the top floor of the Umbrella Group’s consortium, Vaelira Von Sanguine, the Sixth Pulse of the Sanguine Clan, ended a call on her lifeguard.
The room was tense and silent, despite the numerous people within. Vaelira sat at the head of a long boardroom table, with numerous others at the sides.
They all stared at her in silence, waiting. She had just received a call from the guards at the gate, and knowing who Vaelira was, it was not good.
“Loin.” She suddenly spoke, causing many to instinctively gulp.
“Yes, Sixth Pulse.” A tall woman standing behind her, with round glasses and aloof expression instantly bowed.
“I want those fools imprisoned immediately.”
“Yes, Sixth Pulse.” Loin answered, and rapidly tapped on her lifeguard.
Vaelira let out an audible sigh. “Ah, my mood is ruined!” She laid down on the desk, shaking like she was throwing a tantrum. But none in the room dared to laugh or even speak.
She eventually stopped, sitting down straight. “What are you fools looking at?”
The eyes in the room darted away, like staring at her was suddenly forbidden. They were men and women who held significant power and authority in the Umbrella Group, guild masters, yet, they each cowered in the presence of the Sixth Pulse.
A creepy smile suddenly appeared on Vaelira’s face. She waved her hand.
“You’re all dismissed. I’ve found something more interesting to torment.”
The guild masters dispersed like ants, not wanting to be present any longer.
With all of them gone, Vaelira rose from her seat and approached the window. From this height, she could see the entire district and more.
“How do you think I should welcome him, Loin?”
Loin adjusted her glasses. “I’m afraid I’m not qualified to advise you on such matters, Sixth Pulse. Wreaking havoc is a talent no one can beat you at.”
Vaelira’s smile stretched into something mad.
“You’re right.” She said, “this welcome has to be special. It’s my precious nephew, after all.”
Her mad grin vanished from her face, and she turned towards Loin.
“Send Yalco.”
Loin was about to speak when she continued.
“Also…” as though she remembered something, she smiled faintly. “Fetch my precious baby for me.”
“As you wish, Sixth Pulse.”
…
Moving through the estate gate of the Umbrella Group, Malakai was at a loss at how massive the estate was.
A sprawling land stretched out in front of him, with buildings sparsely built. It was like a city of its own, but except for streets and countless buildings, there were forests filled with trees.
There was a pathway built from the gate, stretching towards the large skyscraper in the center of the estate. Malakai didn’t even need to think about their destination. They moved towards the skyscraper, weaving past the merchants.
It was only after reaching the skyscraper that they were able to truly see how grand it was. He had to smack Renlo on the head just to remind him where they were.
As they were about to enter the building, Malakai saw a man with the distinct features of a Sanguine approach them.
“I greet the Ninth Vein.” He bowed deeply, paying his respects.
’He’s strong.’ Malakai noted inwardly. The man was a synergy stage evolved, but a strong one.
’Later stages, probably.’
He was unusually tall, with long and slender limbs. His eyes were small, but piercing, and expression calm.
“I’m here to see the Sixth Pulse.” Malakai said flatly.
The man didn’t display any offense at the blatant ignorance of his greeting. He simply nodded.
“Follow me.”
As the man turned, Malakai missed the cold glint that flashed through his eyes.
