Chapter 358: Evening
Chapter 358: Evening
Malakai was shocked.
To think the sovereign would gift him a grade four weapon, especially after the disaster that was their meeting.
’This would come in real handy.’ It was even more powerful than the weapons he could form with the vita!
But now with this, he didn’t even have to reveal all his cards. Malakai breathed out deeply, erasing the smile on his face.
The sovereign was being generous with his gifts, but he couldn’t allow himself to be swept away.
’He’s not an ally…’
Malakai’s target was the sovereign’s kin. And the giant had made it very clear that he wouldn’t tolerate any harm to his kin, even if it was from one of his own.
’He’s an enemy.’
Malakai’s eyes ran cold. It was an ambitious thought. One that, if anyone in the dome should hear, they would instantly burst out laughing.
It was as though an ant had just declared a god an enemy.
But Malakai took it to heart. He would have his revenge, no matter who stood in his way.
After confirming that there was nothing else in the box, he shut it and made his way out of his room. A few seconds later, he was knocking on Renlo’s door.
Their rooms weren’t far apart. Just across the hall.
As the door opened, Renlo wasn’t surprised to find Malakai waiting.
“Ah shit, is it time for training already?” He sighed, shoulders slumping down.
Malakai allowed a brief rest period after breakfast to make sure the food settled before training.
“Looks like this rest time was a mistake.” Malakai said, frowning. “It made you lazy.”
Renlo paled then panicked. “No no no! Training? I love training!” He waved his arms quickly before turning back to the room. “I’ll get ready!”
“Wai—”
But Renlo had already ran into the room before he could stop him. Malakai shook his head. How on earth had Renlo missed the fact that he was carrying a large chest?
He went into the room only for his frown to deepen.
’It’s messy.’
Clothes were scattered across the floor, plates, pots and even spoons. Malakai was glad to find out that they were all clean, but he couldn’t fathom why Renlo kept them in his room and not the kitchen.
’How did he even get so many clothes?’
Renlo had moved here with only some pieces of clothes. Though he had instructed Karla and Unoa to give him anything he asked for, he would have never expected this…
Wisely, Malakai decided not to ask. He focused on Renlo who was quickly trying to get ready, oblivious to the fact that Malakai was inside his room.
“Stop.” He said. When he received no answer, he released a little killing intent that instantly froze him in place.
“Wh-what’s g-goin on?” Renlo cried.
Malakai’s eyes narrowed. ’He reacted.’
Though Renlo’s voice had trembled, his body had reacted in another way. He had somehow found his spear and settled into a stance.
’His instincts… it’s sharpened.’ Malakai realized. This wasn’t something anyone could teach.
One had to experience real life and death to form such instincts. Malakai smiled. As it turned out, the events of Sylvastein had hardened Renlo. He was glad.
“The sovereign sent us rewards.”
Malakai set the chest down in front of the startled Renlo. But it was only after the boy confirmed that all was okay did he truly calm down.
“Rewards?” Renlo blinked at the chest. “For what?”
Malakai could feel the genuineness in those words. He hadn’t done anything, so why was he receiving rewards?
“What you did and did not do shouldn’t matter.” Malakai said. “What matters is that the items are useful. It’s free stuff, you gain, never lose.”
“But…” Renlo looked unconvinced. He truly believed that he’d done nothing to deserve it.
Malakai shrugged. “If you don’t want it, you know the way to the main building. Go tell the sovereign you’re refusing a gift he personally sent.”
Renlo’s eyes almost popped wide.
“T-tell Th-the s-sovereign?”
“Of course. It’s something he personally sent. If you don’t want it, you should inform him yourself.”
Renlo fervently shook his head.
“No no! There’s… there’s no need.”
“So you’ll accept it?”
“Y-yes.”
Renlo visibly deflated. He looked as though he’d been bullied into accepting the rewards. Malakai stifled his laugher.
The next seconds were filled with loud gasps and sounds of awe and wonder. Malakai had no idea what shocked Renlo the most, the vita core, vitaeon or weapon.
’It’s the weapon.’
Renlo was practically glued to it, refusing to look at another thing. It was only after Malakai released another wave of killing intent that he snapped out of his trance.
“Training in five seconds. If I don’t see you outside, I’m doubling your training time.” Malakai began making his way outside when Renlo spoke.
“Em…” Malakai turned to see him scratching his head. “How do I use this?”
He looked at the vial of Vitaeon in his hand.
It was only then he realized just how much information Renlo lacked.
’I’ll add reading to his schedule.’ He resolved.
After instructing him on how to use the Vitaeon, which was at the end of the day, when he was about to sleep, they both went out and began training.
There was nothing new in training anymore. And while Renlo focused on getting used to his new limbs, Malakai focused on his new powers.
And just like that, the days blurred out into each other.
On the eve of the sixth day, a day before they were supposed to report to their new assignment, Malakai stood at the starting point of the balance course.
His eyes were fixed on Renlo, who stood on the starting pillars, about to run the course.
There was a heavy tension in the air. And the major cause was because of what Malakai had just said.
“If you don’t reach the end of the course in this turn, we would spar for the rest of the day.”
