Chapter 315: Flawed
Chapter 315: Flawed
Malakai saw the unspeakable occurring in front of him.
He’d seen it through the screens earlier, but now, it was as though he was living it.
No sound reached him, but the veins and bloodshot eyes from the Gor’Mekhais strapped to the tables sickened him.
He fought through the disgust and scanned the large lab for any signs of Renlo.
’I can’t see every angle.’
This small glass only allowed him to see a portion of the lab. There were other places he couldn’t see. He jumped and landed on the ground, mind already spinning.
’I need to find a way in there.’
“Did you find him?”
Luna brought him out of his thoughts. As he glanced towards her, he finally noticed the eyes of everyone on him.
The Gor’Mekhai stared at Malakai with varying looks. Some fear, others hope. Some recognized him back at the coven when he fought at the Drag’Morr.
Plus, the fact that Luna was friendly with him made them all feel hope that he would help them.
Malakai took a breath. “I couldn’t see him. But he might be down there.”
“I’m sure he’ll be okay.”
Luna’s expression turned sad, and Malakai couldn’t help but feel even worse at her clearly empathizing with him.
He took another breath and answered in his thoughts. ’I hope so.’
“Listen.” He said suddenly, his sharp voice carrying across the room.
“I’ll lead you all to the place where I entered this underground base. We’ll go our separate ways after that.”
Luna was visibly taken aback but quickly nodded.
“Ahstine! Abstine!” she called out sharply, addressing the other Gor’Mekhai. Lina also did the same, and in an instant they gathered behind Luna and Lina.
Malakai didn’t waste time. He approached the guard on the floor before severing his limbs, piercing his eyes, and ripping his tongue out.
His brutality made the hearts of those watching tremble. Even the ones who hadn’t been wary before visibly took steps back from Malakai.
’His eyes are so steady.’ Lina thought in disbelief.
She realized that she didn’t even know anything about Malakai from the beginning. First was his sudden power gain, and now his brutality.
“Let’s go.”
Malakai said plainly as soon as he was done. He didn’t look like he’d just committed brutality.
He opened the door a little and when he confirmed that the hallway was free, he turned to address them.
“We move quickly, and quietly. Leave any threats to me and follow my every instruction. Understand?”
Though it felt weird taking orders from someone half her age, Luna still nodded. And a squeeze on Lina’s hand earned a nod from her too.
With his words passed, Malakai turned and left the room. As he began making his way through the hallway, Luna’s whisper made him pause.
“Malakai.”
Malakai turned and saw her pointing towards the other prison doors. She didn’t need to say anything for him to understand what she meant.
’We don’t have time for this.’
He frowned. The prison had other Gor’Mekhai’s but the bigger the crowd, the better disadvantage they had at going unnoticed.
But as he caught sight of Luna and Lina’s firm eyes, he threw the master key to them.
“Be quick.”
Luna and Lina acted quickly. While Lina opened the prison doors, Luna entered, pacified the Gor’Mekhai inside before stepping out to another prison.
After some minutes, the once two dozen prisoners became almost forty.
’This is a lot.’ Malakai almost cursed. What had he gotten himself into?
A group of Gor’Mekhai’s approached him along with Lina and Luna. They were broader than the others and Malakai could feel a sense of danger radiating from each of them.
“You’re the Ashskin that helped our people.” The Gor’Mekhai man at their forefront addressed Malakai.
He looked hardened, black thick beard, slash across the eyes. His limbs were not human, hunched, tight, and looked to be brimming with power.
’Synergy stage.’ Malakai realized. ’They must have separated these prisoners based on rank.’ The men and women behind him were also synergy stage.
“I am Viga.” The man said.
The others were about to introduce themselves when Malakai cut in.
“We’ve wasted too much time. We need to move.”
Malakai sent a glance towards Luna. “The same rules still stand.”
Luna nodded and briefed Viga and the others on everything Malakai had said. By the time she was done, Malakai didn’t miss the frowns on their faces. They were obviously not happy about being led by a child.
“Nazrukk’vor jurutslem.” The man who had introduced himself, Viga, silenced the opposition. And after giving them orders to organize the people, he turned towards Malakai and gave a firm nod.
“We’re ready. We will abide by your rules.”
Malakai responded with a curt nod and began moving through the halls, the Gor’Mekhai group following closely behind him.
’We’re making too much noise.’ Malakai couldn’t help but curse. As expected, moving with such a large crowd was troublesome.
’I need to be able to sense enemies farther ahead.’
Viga had instructed the other Gor’Mekhai warriors to guard their flank and he held the front along with Malakai, Luna, and Lina.
Though Viga agreed to allow Malakai lead, it was obvious he trusted very little in the boy’s abilities. Malakai could see that his senses were on high alert.
’But it’s not good enough.’ Malakai concluded. With this much noise, any strong node formation evolved would hear them coming.
Though Malakai could see fifty meters around him, it wasn’t enough.
’I’m wasting my focus on other parts.’
This was a thought Malakai had for a while now. His vita field… was flawed.
He could sense the vita at a fifty meter radius from him. This meant his focus was split between all directions.
He could lock into anything he wished, but Malakai believed he was simply dampening its true potential.
’What if I focus all my attention in a single direction?’
Then he wouldn’t have to spread his awareness in different directions. He would be able to focus it all in one single direction, like a flashlight.
Malakai let out a breath and focused. He felt the vita around him, the Gor’Mekhai struggling behind him, the outline of Viga, Luna, and Lina moving by his side.
Then, he locked on to his front, one direction, and then discarded the others.
Malakai suddenly went blind in areas other than his front. Though he heard them, he couldn’t see or feel the Gor’Mekhai, or even Lina or Luna beside him.
All his focus was on his front. And to Malakai, it was as though he became a single beam of light that pierced forward.
His awareness stretched forward, shattering the fifty meter mark, one hundred meters, and stopping at the one hundred and fifty meter mark.
