Chapter 449: Saint Diana’s Transformation
It was a woman.
Both her facial features and hair color closely resembled those of Diana. Coupled with her current location and the prison around her, her identity was apparent.
However, the appearance of the once-sacred Saint had now transformed.
Black carapace could be seen growing up to her neck, while her stomach was bloated, as if she were pregnant with several children.
Her feet had vanished, replaced by a giant sack of squirming black flesh, which shrank and expanded following the rhythm of her breathing.
The Saint had turned into a monster! And a terrifying, extremely ugly monster at that.
Her strength had also been enhanced accordingly.
The formation should have been enough to trap Greater Devils.
Yet, under her onslaught, the Devil Runes lit up, and the formation looked ready to shatter.
“Has the thing underground caused such a great reaction?”, a faintly surprised voice suddenly spread through the demi-plane, making the bloodshot part of Diana’s eyes recede.
Her struggle instantly ceased, and she took several steps back, shrinking to the ground and hugging herself, remaining utterly motionless.
Liora did not pay much attention to her.
It was the reason behind her sudden outburst, the aura lurking deep within the underground mine, that piqued her interest.
Clearly, she had known of Diana’s transformation long ago.
Or rather, she was the one directly responsible for it.
Liora had indeed forgotten about this woman in the past.
Yet, while in the Bloodflower City, she had been reminded of her existence by Alpha and conjured a plan.
She knew that the Zerg Queen in the World of Knights had spread Bloodline Seeds all over the continent, allowing people to obtain extraordinary power.
Before her departure, and to “save” that world, Liora had taken all that power back.
Or at least, this was how it seemed.
Unbeknownst to her, a Bloodline Seed had gone completely unnoticed—that which the Saint had integrated with.
Her first reaction when she remembered Diana’s existence was to separate the Bloodline Seed and kill her.
But soon, another thought arose.
The Zerg Queen could be reborn using those Bloodline Seeds. In that case, could she force her to be reborn and use those seeds as a medium to control her?
Since then, Liora had invested countless resources to put that idea to the test.
The most valuable being the Zerg corpses she had obtained during her earlier adventure. All the Zerg Servant Corpses, including even that of the Greater Devil Zerg Queen, had been fed to the transformed Diana.
Not only had her strength increased to a terrifying level as a result, but the Saint showed some other kind of changes.
“To be able to alert Diana, the aura in the mine must be related to the Zerg Race, or at least, to the insects.”
Coupled with the earlier attack of the insectoids, Liora could almost be certain of her guess.
The moment that thought arose, she was about to take her consciousness back.
But just before she left, she suddenly recalled something. Her gaze moved toward the Saint whom the formation was suppressing.
The latter seemed to have sensed her attention.
Her horrifying body trembled violently, and her mouth opened, looking as if about to say something.
Before she could do so, though, an illusory world suddenly materialized and descended upon her.
The space froze.
An unparalleled gravitational force pressed on the Saint, breaking her bones and tearing apart her skin. For a moment, it seemed as if the weight of an entire world had fallen onto her shoulders.
Diana’s pupils shrank, and she wanted to struggle, but the World of Heart was too powerful for her to resist.
She could only let out a piercing screech that sounded like the buzzing of countless overlapping insects before her body collapsed to the ground.
—
Back in the outside world, Liora took back her consciousness, subconsciously rubbing the Space Orb between her fingers.
Her eyes moved downwards, and a Devil Rune flashed within her pupils, as she tried to pierce through the mine and investigate its true nature.
Unfortunately, the Earth Spirit Ore was truly extraordinary, worthy of its name.
Though she was an Archdevil and her combat power was not far behind someone at the Throne Stage, her gaze was unable to penetrate it all the way.
“No wonder no one, including the Earth Elementals, has discovered anything amiss.”
“Even I would not have discovered it if it were not for the Saint’s outburst.”
“I’m afraid that only those at the peak of the Archdevil stage have a chance of sensing something without a prior warning.”, Liora concluded.
This didn’t dampen her mood at all. If anything, it made her even more excited.
Turning her head, she couldn’t help but glance at Scurry, looking at him as if she had found a treasure.
Not much time had passed since the two reunited, and she had already gained several benefits.
Not only had she been able to collect a large amount of Earth Spirit Ore, but she had also discovered something that could very well hasten her several-year plan.
The more she thought about it, the happier Liora became.
She felt that this rat had great potential.
“To be able to survive and escape from a forbidden area is already a testament to his luck.”
“Could it be that this guy has some sort of ability related to luck?”, Liora couldn’t help but wonder.
Instinctively, she was tempted to activate the Devil Empress’s Furnace and throw him inside, hoping to extract this mysterious talent.
Though she quickly restrained her impulse, knowing that the chances of it were low, Scurry seemed to have noticed her thoughts.
His knees trembled, and he almost stammered to the ground, as a cold shiver ran down his spine.
Scurry’s intuition had always been keen. He didn’t believe that the sense of threat was merely an illusion.
Combined with Liora’s intense gaze, which seemed to regard him as prey, the source of the danger he was feeling was obvious.
“The Demon Will is above! It’s not been long since I managed to escape that damned place! Why did I have to fall into the hands of this freak again?”, he muttered a silent prayer inside his mind, though an expression of supreme loyalty and admiration remained on his face as he stared back at Liora.
