Chapter 326: Ruins
Chapter 326: Ruins
The crimson land was mostly empty.
There was nothing else besides the demons and the Evil Spirits, as even encountering humans was quite difficult.
This held true for the places where Liora had traveled so far, and she believed that this would also hold true for the rest of the Demon God’s Cemetery.
Yet, the moment she arrived at the place where the earlier movement had occurred, she discovered that she was wrong.
Covered in a pale domain that concealed her presence, Liora floated in the sky and stared at the small building in the distance with faint curiosity.
It resembled a military fortress. Or to be more accurate, a part of it, a barracks.
The barracks’ walls were dilapidated while some traces of battle could be seen in and out of it.
A translucent wall encircled it in a circular shape, as if protecting the building at the center.
However, this wasn’t the strangest thing about it.
Liora quickly noticed that the building was gradually growing taller, or more accurately, was slowly emerging from the ground and revealing its true might.
Liora was not the only person attracted by the earlier movement.
Some people had already gathered here even before her arrival, while more and more Weapon Masters kept coming.
By the time the barracks had completely appeared, more than two dozen people were here.
“I didn’t expect that I would encounter a Ruin the moment I entered the Demon God’s Cemetery.”
“I heard that it’s pretty rare to encounter one.”
“Usually, anyone who does will receive great benefits. Judging from this building’s appearance, this Ruin should be part of a military base.”
“I’m afraid that there should be many precious items inside.”
“Divine Weapons, powerful combat techniques, and even resources that can help one achieve a breakthrough. Maybe some of us will become Demon Saints today!”, a frail man stared at the barracks and laughed, as if he could see his bright future.
His words immediately stunned the people around him. Though some of them knew about the existence of Ruins, their concept was completely foreign to some.
Most importantly, even those who knew did not expect that there would be such great benefits.
Although the frail man’s words were not to be trusted, it was highly unlikely that he would lie at a time like this.
Moreover, sensing his weak aura and seeing the several grave injuries on his body, most people let down their guard about him.
The more reckless among them rushed forward and tried to enter the barracks, afraid that they would miss the opportunity.
However, the moment they touched the translucent wall surrounding it, a mighty force arrived.
Several painful screams echoed.
The bodies of those who tried to enter were sent flying, and while they were still mid-air, began disintegrating.
The power of their Divine Aura was unable to help them recover, as if it had been rendered ineffective.
By the time these people landed on the ground again, all signs of life had disappeared.
Only several tangled-up skeletons remained, making it difficult to believe that these once belonged to humans.
The people waiting around the barracks were stunned.
They opened some distance between them and the translucent wall, as if afraid that they would also be counterattacked and end up the same.
Only the frail man remained calm and composed. Bringing his hand in front of his mouth and coughing violently, he ignored the blood on his palm and explained:
“Ruins are usually protected by a powerful formation. If you wish to go inside, you should first exhaust its power.”
“It’s not too difficult.”
As he said this, the man raised his head and struck at the formation. Instantly, the same mighty force arrived and targeted him.
However, compared to before, when the force easily killed several people, this time it seemed considerably weaker.
The frail man was only forced to take a few steps back, as more and more blood dripped out of his mouth.
The surviving people were not shocked by this. Rather, they grew excited, confirming that his words were true.
Moreover, the fact that Ruins were protected was surprising, but not unexpected.
If anything, it confirmed that the items inside were precious and thus needed protection.
Sensing this, the dozen or so people still alive exchanged a glance and communicated.
The next moment, they all struck at the formation at the same time.
A banging sound echoed as the same mighty force as before arrived.
These people immediately brandished their Divine Weapons and placed them in front of them, ready to defend against the formation’s counterattack.
They were not very worried. Since the unprepared, frail man could withstand the power while only sustaining some faint injuries, they would hardly be in any danger.
But the next moment, everyone’s eyes widened.
“You!—”
“Damn it! It’s a trap—”
Several voices echoed as the bodies of the Weapon Masters cracked all over. Their skin broke apart, and blood spilled out of the holes, before their bodies were divided into pieces.
Soon, the cursing voices and wailing screams ceased.
Only the frail man and the translucent wall remained in front of the barracks, as well as several piles of mangled human remains.
But the next moment, the formation began to crack. With a thunderous crashing sound, the wall protecting the Ruin finally disintegrated.
The frail man showed no surprise.
After taking out a handkerchief and wiping the blood on his mouth, he looked at what remained of his “companions” and shook his head with regret.
“Why? It’s all because you’re too greedy and don’t wait for me to finish my words.”
“Exhausting the formation’s power is very easy. All one has to do is perform some human sacrifices.”
“Dozens of Weapon Masters should be just enough.”, the frail man whispered, and his tone grew ever more sorrowful, as if truly saddened by everyone else’s death.
After muttering a prayer in a low voice, seemingly sending them to the underworld, the frail man turned around and approached the building.
“I can’t bring myself to waste your sacrifices! I can only collect the treasures inside and work hard to take revenge on those who killed you!”
“Don’t worry! I will do my best to avenge you!”
Saying this, the frail man opened the half-broken door and was about to step in.
But the next moment, a crimson light arrived and cut his head off.
Then, the light fell down and wiped out the lower part of his body, leaving only a bodiless head behind.
