Evolution: From Little Devil to Devil Empress

Chapter 288: Despair

Chapter 288: Despair

Liora had always wondered whether her combat power was enough to contend with a Greater Devil, but now, she finally had a resounding answer:

Yes!

Although she knew that her opponent could not exert their full power due to some unknown reasons, Liora understood that they were still a Greater Devil.

Moreover, perhaps because of Duke Bloodflower’s extraordinary strength, he possessed the power of a Greater Devil even in his now-weakened form.

“This is unexpected, but it also makes sense.”

“World Devourer bloodline, my many abilities, and even the World Devourer Method and Four Elements Method…”

“Altogether, it would be surprising if I could not contend with a Greater Devil.”, Liora thought inwardly, but she didn’t cease her onslaught.

Both Eclipse and her physical body were operated to their fullest potential, launching one attack after another towards her opponent.

Her combat tactics could only be described as reckless. She kept striking at the Duke, like a mindless beast that had lost control.

The only reason Liora dared to fight this way was because of Virtualization.

Every time the Duke attempted to strike back at her, her body would instantly turn illusory, preventing the enemy blows from ever reaching her location.

Even Liora, the owner of this ability, had to sigh regarding its outstanding power. The Duke’s emotions, as he was currently facing her and being beaten back continuously, could only be imagined.

Not only was his opponent powerful beyond imagination, able to shatter his body and force him to revive several times thus far, but her “defense” was extraordinary.

At least in his current state, the Duke had no good way of dealing with it.

“Damn it! If it were not for me splitting my power, how could a mere True Devil push me to this point?!”, Duke Bloodflower couldn’t help but grumble inwardly, though he maintained a calm facade on the surface.

At times like these, one should never let the opponent sense one’s panic. Otherwise, they would fall at a disadvantage.

But having reached this point, the Duke was already at the end of the rope. Not because of Liora, but because something was awakening inside of him.

Urging his soul, the Duke’s consciousness swept across his body. Immediately, his attention fell on the orange rune flickering at the depths of his body.

“It’s this thing! This thing is the cause of all my troubles!”, his eyes couldn’t help but turn red from fury.

If it were not for this rune, why would he have split his power and grown weaker?

If it were not for this rune, why would he have come here to obtain the Fire Elemental core?

If it were not for this rune, why would a mere True Devil be able to contend with him and push him to this point?

Sensing that the constant battle had only made the rune’s influence grow even more obvious, the Duke realized that he could not let things continue on like this.

Instantly, his face grew utterly ruthless as he captured the figures of the five True Devils standing in the distance.

Very quickly, he made a decision.

While holding onto the miniature city and using it to deal with Liora’s incoming attacks, he slapped onto its high walls with his other hand.

Being practically right next to him, Liora instantly noticed the changes.

The claw floating above the city shook, as its fingertips turned inwards and tugged at the five biggest threads growing out of them.

From the corner of her eye, Liora noticed that a look of undisguised terror flashed on the five True Devils’ faces.

This terror did not stem from the circumstances around them. Instead, it came from within their own bodies.

It was a terror that had been engraved on their instincts.

Liora witnessed that one of these five Devils turned around, planning to flee.

But the next moment, their struggle ceased.

Their movements quickly slowed down as if time itself had done so, until they fully froze.

The other True Devils followed a similar fate. All of them, including the Slave Lord, froze in place.

The threads above them swayed.

In an instant, the terrified eyes of these True Devils lost their emotions. They grew emotionless and devoid of any signs of life, just like the ones of the puppets which Liora had previously destroyed.

Following a loud creak of their bodies, they turned around and rushed towards Duke Bloodflower.

Originally, the Duke was prepared to face Liora’s counterattack.

After all, it was fairly obvious that he was planning to activate his trump card.

Yet, his caution proved to be useless in the end.

Not only did Liora not interrupt him, but she instead stepped back, opening some distance between them.

The Duke was confused. However, now was not the time to think about the purpose behind her actions.

His eyes grew stern, and with a move of his mind, the claw above the floating city clenched tightly.

At the same time, a large gap grew along his abdomen, revealing a revolving six-pointed star inside.

In the distance, Liora noticed that the bodies of the five True Devils began to dissipate.

They each transformed into a brilliant light, which then rushed towards the Duke.

Though their speed was extremely high, Liora’s eyes were able to capture the appearance of each of these lights.

Green, red, blue, white, and black were their respective colors, and there was nothing particular about them.

Yet, as Liora’s eyes landed on these completely ordinary lights, a barrage of emotions assaulted her mind.

Envy, Madness, Wrath, Indifference, Cunningness…

Each of the lights seemed to represent a different type of emotion and split personality, making Liora’s eyes narrow.

As she continued watching, the five lights shot into the gap on the Duke’s abdomen. They each settled into one of the star’s pointed edges, forming a circular shape.

They lit up with their respective colors, wishing to plunge this place into their light. Unfortunately, something seemed to be missing.

One of the star’s six edges remained dark, rendering it impossible for them to achieve a perfect resonance.

Despite this, the lights’ impact was quite obvious. In the outside world, the aura of Duke Bloodflower grew ever more terrifying.

As if the shackle limiting him had been broken, his power surged.

“To be able to push me to this point, you should be proud of yourself.”

“However, since you’ve forced me to do this, you should be prepared to suffer the consequences of your actions.”

A cold voice echoed in the demi-plane as the Duke completely lost his earlier, somewhat earthy attitude.

A murderous atmosphere filled the space as his face turned indifferent.

He then attacked.

Having regained his strength, he no longer needed to utilize the miniature city. Lowering his hand casually, he brought his palm down, ready to slap Liora to death.
