Evolution: From Little Devil to Devil Empress

Chapter 258: Alpha’s Challenge

Chapter 258: Alpha’s Challenge

Participating in a fight in the Demon Colosseum was fairly simple and straightforward.

All one needed was to find the related staff and sign up.

There were no tests involved during the signing process, neither regarding the participants’ background nor their strength.

After all, the Demon Colosseum did not care how powerful the participants were.

Even if those who chose to sign up were native creatures with only the strength of a Little Devil, they wouldn’t mind.

If anything, they might hope for that to happen from time to time.

The bloodthirsty and crazy Devils in the audience would enjoy such a sight very much.

Regardless, due to the colosseum’s situation, it didn’t take long for Alpha to sign up.

Coupled with the speed with which the fights were happening, her turn to show up came soon.

Under the instructions of the staff, two people stepped into the arena in unison.

Alpha and her opponent.

From the audience stands, Liora was easily able to piece together everything regarding this person.

“Graveplate Devil bloodline. Lesser Devil.”

“Fairly strong among people who have just advanced.”, she commented inwardly, analyzing Alpha’s opponent.

The term Graveplate Devil sounded vague, but in fact, such people could be considered a sub-bloodline of Earth Devils.

It was just that unlike Earth Devils, who were able to manipulate earth, Graveplate Devils were able to control metals.

This granted them a stronger attacking power and unexpected sharpness, but at the same time made their defenses weaker.

While Liora was thinking, the fight proceeded as usual.

The announcer appeared at the center of the arena and stood between the two “challengers” before he spoke up:

“Today, we will be able to personally witness a fight between two Devils with great potential.”

“First of all…”, he said and pointed at the Graveplate Devil:

“Some of you, regulars, might know him. It’s Sazlier, nicknamed Metal Demon, with four consecutive wins!”

As he introduced Sazlier, the audience erupted in cheers, especially those who knew this challenger.

Nodding his head in satisfaction, the announcer continued.

He pointed at Alpha and resumed his speech:

“On the other hand, we have a newcomer.”

“Although not much is known about this lady, we can be certain that she is extremely powerful to dare to participate despite being a Young Devil!”

“We can hope to see great things from her!”

The announcer’s introduction of Alpha was significantly longer compared to her opponent.

However, this didn’t mean that it was impressive.

Especially when he mentioned that Alpha was only a Young Devil, an uproar rose up in the colosseum.

Though everyone could sign up, it was rare for people below the Lesser Devil stage to really dare to do so.

“Is another person seeking death?”

“It would have been fine if they faced a weaker opponent. However, although Sazlier is not powerful among Lesser Devils, he is still not something that a mere Young Devil can possibly compete with.”

Since Liora stood in the stands, there was nothing stopping her from listening to the audience’s mutterings.

From their conversations, she understood that everybody had already regarded Alpha as someone destined to die.

To this, she remained noncommittal.

She didn’t speak up and argue, choosing to wait for the fight to begin instead.

She didn’t have to wait for long.

After giving a few seconds for the audience to take everything in, the announcer sensed that the earlier uproar had quieted down and knew it was time.

With a flicker, his body turned into an afterimage that soon disappeared, leaving only a solemn voice behind:

“The match begins!”

There were no loud fireworks or any other grand display.

Yet the moment the announcer’s words fell, everyone realized that the battle had started.

This included the audience members, but most importantly, it included the two challengers.

Instantly, the two people took their stance.

The one who took the lead in attacking was the Graveplate Devil.

Though he was covered in metal and seemed to be a mecha made of iron, his speed was surprisingly quick.

With a dash forward, he appeared beside Alpha and waved the sword he had just conjured towards her neck.

He didn’t choose to use any other abilities, instead preferring to use the simplest and cleanest way to deal with such a weak opponent.

And his actions were indeed effective.

His speed was unexpectedly fast, causing some of the audience members to fail to follow his flashing figure with their eyes.

Fortunately, Alpha was not included in these people.

Although she was still a Young Devil, she was a mechanical puppet after all.

Her thinking was very quick, able to analyze thousands of little things in a split second.

Seeing the sword getting closer and threatening to slice through her neck, Alpha remained indifferent.

She didn’t move back or step to the side, refusing to evade the incoming sword slash.

Instead, a clicking sound came from her body, and her head suddenly moved.

As if it were a disk that had been ejected, her head detached from her neck and shot up, flying a few meters above the rest of her body.

The next moment, the attack of the Graveplate Devil arrived.

However, as expected, it failed to cause any damage.

The sword’s edge whistled through the air and tried to slice Alpha’s neck, only to end up hitting the utterly empty air.

A flash of surprise flickered in the Graveplate Devil’s eyes. He understood that he may have underestimated his opponent.

Still, he reacted very quickly and swung his sword towards Alpha’s torso.

Although Alpha’s head was high in the sky, she was able to see his movements.

Her mind moved, and her head fell downwards, falling onto her severed neck and reattaching.

Then, she waved her hands, throwing some seed-like items towards the floor of the arena.

The moment these seeds landed, they instantly bloomed.

Branches and roots grew out of them.

These interlocked, quickly becoming fully-grown trees, and forming a wall made of wood in front of her.

As the Graveplate Devil’s sword was swung forward, its sharp edge and the wooden wall clashed.

A loud, crashing sound echoed in the arena as the trees were shattered, one after another.

Wooden chips and withered leaves flew everywhere, as the wooden wall soon crumbled.

Obviously, in their confrontation, Alpha had fallen into a disadvantage.

This was to be expected.

She was still a Young Devil after all, while her opponent was a Lesser Devil. Even if her methods were strange, they proved meaningless in front of overwhelming power.

Fortunately, the defense she had managed to put up had given her enough time to move.

Shoving against the ground with her right foot, Alpha launched herself backwards, opening some distance between her and her opponent.

While she was still mid-air and her back faced the sky, she waved her hands once again, scattering more seeds on the floor.

This time, the seeds were many times more than before.

By the time she had landed, hundreds of trees had grown all over the arena, as if a forest that was hidden had unknowingly emerged.

A lot had happened. Yet not much time had passed during this strange sequence of events.

The sword of the Graveplate Devil was still trembling due to the impact, and he was planning to launch another attack when he found himself surrounded by a lush forest.

He was still confused and full of doubts when a vine suddenly shot up from the ground and wrapped around his leg.

A clang echoed as the vine attempted to drill into his body, only for its sharp tip to bounce off his metal skin.

“Hmph!”, the Graveplate Devil snorted, and his body shook, as countless tiny needles grew out of his leg and cut the vine to pieces.

Then, he raised his head and surveyed his surroundings, searching for Alpha’s figure.

Soon, his eyes locked onto her.

Immediately, he rushed forward.
