Chapter 246: Spoils of Battle
Chapter 246: Spoils of Battle
She only briefly glanced at the space before she quickly hid her thoughts and walked deeper into the room.
She ignored the many Devils gathered at the tables, some of whom were chatting and others who were plotting in a low voice, and reached the inn’s counter.
As she looked at the large stature of the Devil shopkeeper, the image of Lord Embers couldn’t help but appear in her mind.
It was only after she had swept through this Devil with her consciousness several times and confirmed that he was just an ordinary Lesser Devil that she somewhat relaxed.
Under the shopkeeper’s eyes, Liora tossed him a Soul Stone and requested the largest and most expensive room.
The shopkeeper grabbed the Soul Stone and wiped it repeatedly as if wanting to polish it, before he led her to her room.
Before long, Liora stood alone in a vast room that seemed more like a palace’s interior and less like a part of an inn.
In her senses, this place was also the same as the rest of the inn, being a sub-plane of the building’s separated space.
After casually going through it and confirming that there was nothing wrong with it, Liora waved her hands repeatedly and engraved several types of arrays.
Some of them were for protection, others were to detect possible intruders, while there were even some that could be used for her to escape in case of danger.
She nodded her head in satisfaction upon completing them and was about to take her seat when she suddenly recalled something.
Immediately, her consciousness connected to the Space Orb, and a person was taken out of it.
This person was none other than Alpha.
As one would expect, Liora had not forgotten to take this woman with her before she left the world of Knights.
After all, Alpha was not only her most faithful servant but also the person who knew her the best.
Nodding in greeting, Liora opened her mouth and spoke:
“Make sure that no person gets near this place. If an enemy arrives, use the formation to alert me.”, she explained to Alpha.
Hearing her request, Alpha saluted and nodded to show that she understood. Secretly, she was quite surprised.
The two were still in the world of Knights the last time she exited the Space Orb.
Yet now, not much time had passed, and they had arrived in the Demon World.
However, she didn’t voice her doubts out loud. With faint curiosity in her eyes, she turned around and went to follow Liora’s instructions.
Staring at Alpha’s back as she took her position, Liora couldn’t help but fall into thought.
In fact, Alpha was not her only servant.
Besides her, there were two other people who had signed a Devil Contract with her, both during her time in the Crucible.
They were the Owl Devil and Scurry, respectively.
Liora had also planned to take them with her to the Demon World, believing that they might prove of help.
Unfortunately, during the process of her “ascension” and perhaps because of the Will of the Demon World’s interference, they had encountered an accident and were thus separated.
Only Alpha had remained with her, not because of luck but due to Liora’s quick and decisive actions.
“I can sense from the Devil Contract that those two are still alive.”
“But it makes sense. Although a lot has happened during this time, less than a year has actually gone by.”
“In that time, it’s not difficult for those two to remain alive.”, Liora whispered as her thoughts went even deeper.
“Considering their respective abilities, those two must be doing quite well. Most likely, they have already become Lesser Devils.”
After all, both of those two had the potential to reach the Crucible Ranking during their time in the Crucible.
They were both quite extraordinary, and the only thing that they lacked was an opportunity or a slight push forward.
And what better opportunity could there be than their arrival in the Demon World?
Thinking of this, Liora decided to put the matter of finding them on the agenda.
Though she wouldn’t specifically search for their traces or conduct an investigation, it wouldn’t hurt to be on the lookout.
After she noted this down, Liora took her seat, closed her eyes, and emptied her mind.
Her body, tense from the continuous previous fights and events, relaxed while her expression became less sharp.
It was only a few minutes later that she finally woke up.
She didn’t get up or even move, instead deciding to deal with the matter at hand.
That was to take a look at her recent spoils of battle.
Not only those she obtained in the world of Knights, but also what she had obtained in the Inferno Valley.
After all, although her stay there had been short, she had gained quite a lot, mostly due to the Gale Devil’s contribution.
With that in mind, Liora’s mind connected with the Space Orb, and she took out a bunch of shiny orbs.
The word bunch was used to describe them, but in fact, there were hundreds, if not thousands, of them.
Though they possessed no will, they all exuded a somewhat powerful aura, ranging from the Young Devil to the Lesser Devil stage.
As her gaze landed on them, Liora felt the urge to grab them and devour them.
She could sense that absorbing them would benefit her a lot, helping her demonic energy take a step forward.
“The cores of Fire Elementals…”, Liora’s whispered voice revealed these orbs’ true identity.
Although she had not specifically searched for them and had not gone on an all-out massacre, Liora had slain lots of Fire Elementals during her brief stay in the Inferno Valley.
Thus, she had managed to obtain a lot of their cores.
“The cores of Fire Elementals can be absorbed to increase the quantity and quality of demonic energy. That much, I already knew.”
“But I originally believed that they would hardly be helpful after my advancement. Especially these weak ones.”
“However, judging my body’s intense reaction, they should still be quite useful.”, Liora concluded.
She had yet to devour one, but she could instinctively sense that absorbing them would improve her strength.
Even if that improvement was very small and did not help her transform, this was already surprising enough.
After all, these were items she obtained through killing a few weaklings. Yet, they could bring improvement to her, a True Devil.
“The Inferno Valley is a forbidden area, as much as it is a treasure place.”
“If a Devil is powerful enough, venturing into the valley is an easy way for them to enhance their strength.”, Liora realized.
Of course, the beings who could venture into the Inferno Valley and face no danger didn’t lack a few Fire Elemental cores.
On the other hand, those who did could not afford to venture into the forbidden area.
Thinking of this, Liora did not rush to absorb these cores. She decided to keep them for later.
At the very least, until she had fully taken stock of her harvest.
Putting them aside, she took out another “item” she had recently obtained.
As she stretched out her hand, a puff of white mist gathered above her hand and trembled violently as if responding to the wind’s movements.
If Liora had the urge to devour the cores of the Fire Elementals before, then her entire being was urging her to pounce on it when her eyes landed on this mist.
“The soul of the True Heart Devil…”, she whispered.
