Chapter 121 - 90: The Importance of Massage and Stretching

  • Next Chapter

Leaving the commercial sports park, Chen Jue drove back to Wangyang Apartment.

Now that he had figured out some of the rules for triggering Skills on his panel, he just needed to try triggering a few more. Then, he could probably finalize his theory on the "natural selection, survival of the fittest" trigger mechanism.

However, the other Skills Chen Jue could think of that might be triggerable all required specialized sports venues, which the commercial sports park could no longer provide.

Plus, several Skills on his panel needed time to slowly grind their Skill Level. Chen Jue had lost that frenzied urgency he felt before.

’I’ll take it slow!’

’I have to attend my classes, but I also need to grind my Skills and Attributes,’ Chen Jue thought.

Back in his apartment, he packed up a bit, stuffing the javelin and shot put he had just bought into a large sports bag that came with an online purchase. He planned to go to the track and field in the afternoon to practice his [Hunting Throwing], then strolled over to the Jiang University cafeteria for lunch.

Since he could no longer commit the socially suicidal act of climbing the wall, getting in and out of the Jiang University campus had become a bit inconvenient for Chen Jue.

Making the detour took fifteen minutes even at a jog, and it was even longer to walk.

Sometimes, when a wicked impulse sparked within him, Chen Jue was even tempted to stealthily take out the security cameras aimed at the wall with a dart and go back to his old wall-climbing route.

But the thought that such an act was illegal—that he’d be sent to prison for deliberately destroying public property if caught—was enough to make Chen Jue abandon the idea.

It was enough to fantasize about it in his head; putting it into practice was out of the question.

In a society ruled by law, he couldn’t just do whatever he wanted. Before he became truly powerful, he still had to play by the rules.

As for driving to his classes at Jiang University, parking was tight and required an alumni card. As a mere auditing student, Chen Jue wasn’t eligible for a parking pass.

Besides, Chen Jue didn’t want to be an attention-seeker among the students. Making himself one of the Outliers by driving to class every day didn’t feel right. So, he decided to just walk or run the extra distance, exercise his legs, and increase his daily activity level at the same time.

However, walking with a heavy load was indeed much more draining than usual, especially since Chen Jue’s bag contained a standard men’s competition shot put.

The thing weighed 7.257 kg. The reason for such a specific number was that, like the javelin, the shot put was a sport that came from the West.

The sport of shot put originated from our ancestors throwing stones as a primitive activity, either to hunt wild animals or to wage war between tribes.

The modern shot put event, however, began in recent times with a group of European artillerymen who, to pass the time during their idle hours, started a little game of competing to throw cannonballs.

Why a lead ball, and not one made of iron or bronze?

It was because early Western cannons were loaded with solid lead balls, each weighing 16 pounds, which converts to 7.257 kg.

Besides this shot put, Chen Jue’s bag also contained a javelin, a power twister, hand grippers, and a pile of textbooks. It weighed at least twenty pounds.

’I don’t look like I’m here to audit classes.’

’I look like I’m here to stir up trouble!’

The nearly two-kilometer walk to the cafeteria, carrying over twenty pounds, was almost half of a special forces soldier’s daily warm-up routine (a five-kilometer run with a nearly forty-pound pack, according to what he’d read online).

By the time he reached the cafeteria, Chen Jue was sweating all over, and even his tracksuit jacket was soaked through in large patches.

Before he could even sit down to rest and eat, a notification unexpectedly popped up on his panel:

——————

[Ding~]

[You have completed a session of high-efficiency weighted cardio. Your leg muscle endurance has slightly increased. Your cardiopulmonary function has slightly improved.]

[Free Attribute +0.01]

’There’s this kind of benefit to not climbing the wall?’

’Looks like I’ll have to add more stuff to my bag from now on!’

Seeing that he had managed to grind out a tiny bit more in Attributes, Chen Jue’s mood lifted immensely. The last bit of his dissatisfaction about taking the long way around vanished completely.

...

Since it wasn’t advisable to eat right after intense exercise, Chen Jue sat in the cafeteria and scrolled through his phone for a while.

Only after the heat radiating from his body had completely subsided did he go to the counter to get his lunch.

His afternoon class started at 1:30 PM, so it was too late to go back to his apartment to rest. Like many other Jiang University students, Chen Jue found a large, shady lawn and lay down for a short nap.

The environment on the Jiang University campus was excellent; its green spaces and vegetation surpassed those of an average city park.

Around noon, the lawns were filled with either student couples or top students buried in their books.

In the week or so that he had been attending classes at the university, Chen Jue hadn’t seen a single Jiang University student or teacher wasting time at this top-tier institution.

Everyone was always in a hurry, either heading to class, doing research in a lab, or studying in the library.

The only activities that could be considered leisure were probably exercising at the track, basketball courts, or gymnasium, or maybe sunbathing on the lawn during the lunch break.

’I can’t believe even a top university is this much of a rat race!’

’There probably aren’t even that many students in this school who team up to play games in their dorms,’ Chen Jue muttered to himself.

He enjoyed a wonderful one-hour nap under the autumn sun, only getting up and strolling leisurely to the classroom when it was almost time for class.

There was only one class he could attend in the afternoon: [Sports Massage], for the sports training major. Having recently started high-intensity training, Chen Jue was paying more and more attention to physical relaxation.

Therefore, he was quite looking forward to this [Sports Massage] class.

’I just hope it’s not being taught by that substitute, Teacher Sun!’
