Chapter 121: Chapter 108: Dandelion Ball [Two in One]
With this large black fish around, Huai Yu poked her head out to look at the trap, then at the clear pool, guessing there probably weren’t many other fish left inside. After all, the large black fish was truly ferocious. But it was also genuinely massive. It looked like it had so much meat on it!
Huai Yu adjusted the angle of the trap. It had taken a lot of effort just now to purify the large black fish. Seeing its wildly thrashing tail quiet down after smashing a rock with a loud SMACK, she finally relaxed.
Next up, she put on her woven basket, packed the Klang Balls, and slipped the large black fish into a sack to rest on top of the locust flowers. After all, its survival skills were incredibly strong; it could stay alive for quite a while without water.
Finally, there was Ke Taichiro.
"Taichiro, do you want me to carry you, or are you going to crawl yourself?"
Ke Taichiro fluttered its wings open, then stood there quietly, as if waiting to be picked up.
Huai Yu sighed. "All right then, but there’s no room on my back. Come on, stand in the sack, and I’ll hang it around my neck."
She was truly something else! Huai Yu carefully trudged along the mountain path, huffing and puffing. She became increasingly certain of her past identity—if she didn’t have some subconscious sense of being strong and tough, how could she be so skilled at carrying heavy loads right now? She wondered just how tough she used to be. Was she over six feet tall? Were her fists as big as clay pots?
Holding the sack in one hand and touching Ke Taichiro hanging from her chest with the other, Huai Yu secretly breathed a sigh of relief. Thankfully, Ke Taichiro wasn’t heavy.
After struggling back to the house, Huai Yu first took the sack containing Ke Taichiro off her neck, feeling like she was developing cervical spondylosis at her young age. Immediately after, she set down the woven basket. Rolling her shoulders back brought a wave of numbness and sharp pain, mixed with a lingering ache. It was an intensely satisfying kind of soreness!
She massaged her shoulders for quite a while before the discomfort gradually eased. Wincing, Huai Yu pulled her collar aside to check her shoulders, finding two fierce red strap marks glaringly obvious on her skin. If she left them alone, they would soon turn purplish-red and swollen, eventually fading into dark bruises. However, there was still a lot of work to do right now. Unable to afford a rest, she turned her head, blew on her shoulder symbolically, and went back to sorting through her basket.
She took out the obediently still large black fish from the sack. It was genuinely massive—none of the buckets at home could hold it. After a moment of thought, she forced herself to stand up again. Grabbing a shovel, she went to the barnyard grass tree, threw on her raincoat, and quickly dug out a water pit in a few swift strokes.
In the middle of digging, whether by coincidence or on purpose, two or three water globs smacked squarely onto her back and shoulders. It didn’t hurt, but it almost made Huai Yu call out for Big Pup and Second Pup.
She tossed the black fish straight into the shallow puddle. Seeing it swish its tail, she finally breathed a sigh of relief. Staring at the barnyard grass tree, she turned her head away haughtily.
"Hitting me, huh? Just wait until tomorrow when I’m rested. I’m going to give your companion even more energy!" She refused to believe that the two of them wouldn’t fight for dominance here by the pond!
Next came Ke Taichiro’s balls. The ones collected today carried a strange medicinal scent. The white and gold ones smelled quite nice, but the iridescent one had an unpleasant, pungent odor that went straight to her head. Since Huai Yu had no intention of eating any of them anyway, she stuffed them all into the jar.
Looking back at Ke Taichiro, it was still standing there obediently. Right now, it held a locust flower in its two front claws, chewing it carefully. Its mouth moved continuously, and its antennae twitched—it looked exceptionally well-behaved. Huai Yu almost couldn’t bear the sight.
"Take a break, Taichiro. Are you really not tired?"
She gently placed Ke Taichiro into its nest. After a moment of thought, she filled a bowl with locust flowers for it, then lightly tapped its antennae.
"Eat if you want, but if you don’t, just rest. Do you dung beetles even have cheeks? Because if you keep chewing non-stop like this, I’m worried your cheeks will... sigh!" She sighed, truly at a loss as to what to do with the obedient Taichiro.
Upon returning inside and looking at the glass jar that was nearly eighty percent full, Huai Yu started pondering. Ke Taichiro was truly overly diligent! It had barely been two days and it had already hoarded so many balls. Would she eventually have to build an entire room just to store them? What other use did these things have besides being used as fertilizer?
At this thought, Uncle Zaozi’s enthusiastic face popped into her mind. Huai Yu squeezed her eyes shut in agony, swearing that she was a person of conscience and would absolutely never make money off Taichiro like this!
She stretched her arms, feeling her hands grow even heavier. But what could she do? She was on her own right now!
