Chapter 227: Chapter 227: A Family Recognition Banquet Will Be Held, and You Can Attend as Yun Sheng’s Fiancé
A flicker of emotion finally appeared in Xing Che’s eyes as he looked at Su Yuanzhou, but his voice remained just as cold.
"Oh? You want to talk to me about Shengsheng? Then go on, tell me. What is it specifically?"
He had been training with Yun Sheng for the past few days, so he had a basic understanding of the camp’s situation. He knew that the man before him, Su Yuanzhou, was the new chief guide who had taken over after Qi Yao left.
But Su Yuanzhou and Yun Sheng shouldn’t have had any reason to interact. For a man like that to deliberately stop him at this moment meant it was probably not as simple as wanting to exchange a few words.
Su Yuanzhou shot a look at Zhao Heng and the others. Zhao Heng and his men retreated even further, only stopping when they were out of earshot.
Then, he looked at Xing Che and got straight to the point. "From what I know, you and Yun Sheng knew each other back in the Eighth Star Zone. After reuniting here, you’ve been by her side ever since. You... like Yun Sheng?"
Xing Che scoffed, a cold glint flashing in his eyes, his patience wearing thin.
"What’s it to you?"
’If this Su Yuanzhou is deliberately spouting this nonsense here to stall for time and put Yun Sheng in danger, I’ll definitely flay him alive!’
"I am Yun Sheng’s uncle," Su Yuanzhou stated his identity directly. "Her maternal uncle."
Xing Che’s gaze faltered for a moment, then he sneered.
"Uncle? Don’t think I don’t know. Shengsheng has been back on the Capital Star for so long but has never met anyone from Mrs. Lin’s side of the family. You never sought her out when she was on the Capital Star, but now you suddenly show up?"
"Some things are hard to explain in just a few words." Su Yuanzhou’s tone was unhurried, but his expression grew more serious. "I can only say that while I’ve never gone to see Yun Sheng, I have been watching over her in secret. This time is no exception; I came to be an instructor for the Preparatory Guide training because of her."
Xing Che’s brow furrowed, and he didn’t reply.
"I know Yun Sheng is hiding some incredible secrets. And this contaminant riot throughout Zone 10 isn’t simple. The person pulling the strings from behind the scenes has probably already noticed Yun Sheng."
Hearing this, Xing Che’s eyes sharpened. "If you know that, why are you still stopping me?"
"The area Yun Sheng’s group is responsible for clearing is relatively safe. I won’t take up too much of your time." Su Yuanzhou looked at him, his gaze heavy. "I came to you because there’s something I want to discuss."
Xing Che stared at him without a word.
"I want to invite you to join the Star Alliance and return with us to the Capital Star. When the time comes, regardless of whether the Lin Family acknowledges Yun Sheng, we, the Su Family, will claim her. The Su Family will host a formal reception to welcome her, and you can attend as Yun Sheng’s fiancé."
This time, Xing Che was completely stunned.
He looked at Su Yuanzhou, some of the coldness in his eyes fading, replaced by deep scrutiny and confusion.
He carefully studied Su Yuanzhou’s expression, trying to read something on that calm face.
But Su Yuanzhou’s expression was so open and honest that he couldn’t find any flaw.
For a moment, Xing Che simply couldn’t figure out what his intentions and motives were.
’Does he genuinely want to welcome Yun Sheng back, or does he have ulterior motives?’
"What makes you think I would agree?"
Su Yuanzhou looked at him, his gaze calm. "Because you like Yun Sheng. Because you want to stand by her side openly and become her Sentinel. Is that not enough?"
"Even if I were willing, do you think Shengsheng would be? She might not even acknowledge the Su Family or you, her uncle, yet you want to make this kind of decision for her?"
Su Yuanzhou said, "After Bai Ye returned to the Capital Star from here, he had his parents go to the Lin Family and break off his engagement with Lin Yueyao. If I’m not mistaken, he has fallen for Yun Sheng too. But even if he wants to be with Yun Sheng, it wouldn’t be appropriate for him to stand by her side right away.
"Based on my observations of Yun Sheng during this time, she hates trouble. And getting entangled with Bai Ye would inevitably bring her endless trouble. Therefore, I believe she won’t refuse my proposal."
Xing Che’s thin lips tightened, his brow furrowing even deeper, but he still said resolutely, "Then you should have discussed this with Shengsheng first, instead of coming to me on your own accord. This is disrespectful to her. I won’t agree."
Even though Su Yuanzhou’s proposal was, from a certain perspective, quite tempting.
’But I like Yun Sheng, and I’ll win her over on my own merits, not by using some scheme.’
"Su Yuanzhou, I don’t care what you’re planning, but if you dare to harm Shengsheng, I won’t spare you or the Su Family behind you!"
The moment he finished speaking, the spiritual power around Xing Che surged violently. A powerful pressure, almost tangible, bore down on Su Yuanzhou.
Su Yuanzhou’s pupils contracted slightly, and his body tensed instinctively, but he didn’t retreat a single step.
Xing Che stared at him for two seconds, withdrew his spiritual power, and turned, darting away at top speed toward the area where Yun Sheng was.
Su Yuanzhou stood on the spot, watching the figure disappear into the shadows of the trees. He remained silent for a long time.
He sighed softly and pressed a hand to the bridge of his nose, a complex emotion flickering in his eyes.
Just then, Zhao Heng and a few other Sentinels walked over.
He had thought Su Yuanzhou was trying to recruit Xing Che. Standing so far away, he couldn’t hear their conversation, but judging from Su Yuanzhou’s expression, he guessed the talks had broken down.
"Admiral Su, Xing Che..."
"It’s nothing." Su Yuanzhou waved a hand, his voice returning to its usual steady tone. "Let’s go. We’re heading east."
He started walking, his steps steady and his back perfectly straight, but the complex look in his eyes never faded.
Zhao Heng glanced at him but didn’t ask any more questions, simply following along with the other Sentinels.
...
Xing Che raced along, the spiritual power around him so dense it was almost solid, his speed astonishing.
’I have to make up for all the time Su Yuanzhou wasted.’
The shadows of the trees flew past on either side, and the dead leaves underfoot were kicked up by the force of his passage, swirling in his wake.
Before long, he reached the area that Yun Sheng’s team was responsible for.
The air was thick with the heavy stench of blood. A massive Iron-Backed Bear lay in a pool of it, two bloody holes in its throat still oozing black blood. 𝘧𝓇ℯℴ𝓂
Xing Che’s gaze swept over the corpse, and he sniffed the familiar scent of an Abyssal Giant Wolf lingering in the air.
He tutted softly, his tone tinged with a hard-to-describe sourness.
"That guy’s spiritual body got to play the hero and save the damsel in distress again..." Xing Che gritted his teeth, a flash of annoyance in his eyes. "It’s all that bastard Su’s fault for wasting my time!"
He took a deep breath, suppressing the sour feeling, and followed the tracks left by the team.
He hadn’t gone far when a particularly foul, corrosive smell drifted into his nose.
The stench was intense and acrid, like rotting fish and shrimp mixed with sulfur. It made his throat tighten and was identical to the smell from the open field—the one that had sent the contaminants into a frenzy.
Xing Che’s expression changed abruptly.
"This is bad!"
He let out a low cry, a sharp glint in his eyes, and his speed exploded as he raced toward the source of the smell.
