Every Sentinel I Dreamed of Came Looking for Me
Chapter 194: The Scene of Carnage is About to Erupt
Chapter 194: Chapter 194: The Scene of Carnage is About to Erupt
A vein throbbed on Yun Sheng’s temple.
She took a deep breath, suppressing the surge of emotion, and said, enunciating each word, "Xing Che, now is not the time for jokes."
Xing Che smiled, a look of pure innocence on his face. "I’m not joking. I’m being very serious."
He glanced over at Si Jin, then slowly drew his gaze back.
"He can hold out on his own for a while. No rush. Take your time to think it over."
Looking at his nonchalant demeanor, Yun Sheng ground her teeth in frustration.
Behind her, the sounds of blades cleaving the air and pollutants shrieking intertwined. Every so often, someone would be forced back a few steps, only to grit their teeth and charge forward again.
Guo Kai’s shoulder wound had split open, blood streaming down his arm. Ma Yu was also barely holding on.
The other cadets were protected in the center, their faces growing paler by the second.
Yun Sheng started, "Xing Che, can we change the condition? I..."
’They had only really met three times. How could she possibly agree to something like this!’
"He’s nothing to me."
Xing Che glanced toward Si Jin, his tone indifferent.
"Why should I risk my neck to help a Dark Sentinel wanted by the Star Alliance? As for the others, they’re complete strangers to me. Besides, other than being your Sentinel, anything else I want, I can get with my own abilities. So you tell me, what else is there to change?"
Yun Sheng was left speechless by his words.
Xing Che just watched her, neither rushing nor pressuring her, as if certain she would agree.
Just then, Yun Sheng felt an abnormal fluctuation in spiritual power.
She turned to see Qi Yao’s spiritual power growing more and more chaotic. He was constantly unleashing bursts of spiritual power to repel the charging pollutants, but it was taking a toll, and his condition was worsening. He was like a string stretched to its breaking point.
’If this continues, he’ll lose control in a spiritual power overload before the pollutant swarm is even defeated.’
’The situation would become even harder to manage then!’
Yun Sheng took a deep breath, stared into Xing Che’s eyes, and said, word by word, "Fine. I agree. But you have to help first."
A light flashed in Xing Che’s eyes.
The corners of his lips curved up, a smile spreading from the depths of his eyes, and his entire being seemed to light up.
"Deal."
With that, he turned and strode toward the Devouring Abyss Beast.
After two steps, he paused and looked back at Yun Sheng.
"Remember what you said."
His voice wasn’t loud, but it landed clearly in her ears.
Her face stiff, Yun Sheng nodded.
Xing Che turned, gathered a vast amount of spiritual power in his palm, and blasted it toward the Devouring Abyss Beast!
The Devouring Abyss Beast was focused entirely on Si Jin. By the time it sensed Xing Che’s presence, the attack had already hit.
It let out a piercing shriek as its massive body staggered back several steps.
Si Jin seized the opportunity. A Spirit Blade viciously chopped down on its head, and black blood gushed out.
This sudden turn of events instantly drew everyone’s attention.
Cheng Nian’s eyes widened, Li Wen’s mouth fell slightly open, and even He Yi couldn’t help but stare.
"He... how is he so strong?"
Zhao Qian subconsciously looked at Xing Che and murmured.
Zhao Heng’s hand, gripping his blade, faltered. The few A-level Sentinels exchanged glances.
That fluctuation of spiritual power was at least S-Class!
Qi Yao also looked at Xing Che, his gaze heavy, a complex emotion flashing in his eyes.
But now wasn’t the time to investigate. Soon, everyone re-entered a state of combat, clashing with the swarm of pollutants.
Meanwhile, Si Jin gathered his power and struck the Devouring Abyss Beast with his palm, his peripheral vision catching Xing Che. His gaze was as cold as ice.
Xing Che wasn’t annoyed. He nonchalantly walked over to Si Jin’s side and stood shoulder to shoulder with him.
"Lending you a hand," he said, his tone as casual as if he were discussing the weather. "No need to thank me."
Si Jin’s gaze grew even colder. He had no intention of acknowledging him.
At that moment, the Devouring Abyss Beast roared and pounced again.
The two of them moved at the same time. One from the left, one from the right, their spiritual powers weaving into a net that trapped the Devouring Abyss Beast.
Pinned by two SSS-level forces, it was completely immobilized. It let out unwilling roars from its throat and tore frantically with its claws, but it couldn’t break free.
Watching this scene, the heart that had been caught in Yun Sheng’s throat finally settled.
Just then, Qi Yao had just dispatched two A-level pollutants that had charged at him. Seeing Xing Che and Si Jin team up to trap the Devouring Abyss Beast, he made a swift decision.
"Zhao Heng, take two men and break through. Get behind the Devouring Abyss Beast! Scout the situation, and if it’s clear, lead the cadets over."
"Yes, Junior General."
Zhao Heng nodded, then turned and charged toward Si Jin and the others with two other Sentinels.
By now, the Devouring Abyss Beast’s struggles were growing weaker.
Si Jin’s spiritual power transformed into countless sharp blades, surrounding it from all directions, each one precisely slicing into the gaps of its carapace.
Xing Che’s spiritual power, on the other hand, condensed into an invisible sledgehammer, striking the wounds again and again. It hammered the beast until its carapace started to creak, black blood pouring from the cracks.
The Devouring Abyss Beast let out a final, desperate roar. Its massive body shuddered violently, and after a few more moments, it collapsed with a deafening crash.
Black blood poured from the cracks in its carapace, soaking the soil and filling the air with an even thicker, foul stench.
Everyone was stunned.
An SSS-level pollutant... was defeated just like that?!
After a moment of silence, a wave of low cheers erupted from the crowd.
Cheng Nian gripped Yun Sheng’s arm, her voice trembling with excitement. "It’s dead! It’s dead!"
Li Wen also let out a long sigh of relief, the relief of having survived written all over her face.
Guo Kai leaned on his blade, a weary smile tugging at his lips.
Ma Yu collapsed onto the ground, panting heavily.
Zhou Ying and He Yi exchanged a glance, both visibly relieved.
Zhao Qian’s gaze, however, drifted toward Xing Che, an unreadable light flickering in her eyes. It was impossible to know what she was thinking.
Watching the Devouring Abyss Beast fall, Yun Sheng’s heart finally settled back into place, and the corners of her mouth curved up in a slight smile.
Si Jin retracted his spiritual power. His gaze swept over the crowd, and he subconsciously took a step toward Yun Sheng.
But he immediately froze, stopping dead in his tracks.
Xing Che took a step forward to stand beside him, his posture relaxed, a half-smile playing on his lips.
"You’d better not go over there," he said slowly. "You don’t want to cause trouble for Shengsheng. After all, you’re the Star Alliance’s most wanted fugitive right now."
Si Jin’s gaze turned sharp and cold.
"Shengsheng?"
He repeated the name, his voice like ice.
"That’s right."
Xing Che beamed, but in Si Jin’s eyes, that smile looked incredibly punchable.
"I’m Shengsheng’s Sentinel now, too. As her Sentinel, it’s not a problem for me to call her that, is it?"
The air suddenly froze.
The spiritual power around Si Jin surged violently, like a ferocious beast whose reverse scale had been touched. An invisible pressure crashed down on Xing Che.
"Say that again." His voice was extremely low, yet it seethed with an almost overflowing killing intent. "What right do you have to call yourself her Sentinel?"
But Xing Che seemed completely oblivious to the killing intent. He even leaned in half a step closer, his tone laced with a hint of smugness.
"Didn’t Shengsheng tell you? After we met last time, we saw each other again in a dream. She agreed to let me pursue her." He paused, the smile in his eyes deepening. "And just now, she agreed to let me be her Sentinel."
Si Jin’s pupils contracted violently. The rampaging spiritual power around him felt as if it had been brutally suppressed, only to rebound with even greater force, each wave fiercer than the last.
"Don’t believe me?" Xing Che glanced in Yun Sheng’s direction before slowly drawing his gaze back. "Go on, ask her."
