Chapter 172: Stubbornly in Denial, Destined to Die Old and Alone
Chapter 172: Chapter 172: Stubbornly in Denial, Destined to Die Old and Alone
Yun Sheng watched as Bai Ye took a step back, putting distance between them, and her eyelashes trembled slightly.
Just then, Bai Ye’s spiritual power began to stir restlessly again.
It surged toward her once more, probing cautiously, like a desperately thirsty person gazing at a water source just within reach, wanting to get closer but not daring to.
Yun Sheng could feel the trembling of that spiritual power.
It was craving her, relying on her, desperately restraining itself from pouncing.
Her brow furrowed, and she said instinctively, "Your spiritual power..."
The hand hanging at Bai Ye’s side clenched slightly. "It’s nothing. You can go."
That was what he said.
But his spiritual power seemed to disobey him.
Not only did the intangible spiritual power not retreat, but it actually coiled around her more tightly, gently wrapping around Yun Sheng’s wrist as if afraid she would really leave.
Yun Sheng glanced down, but before she could say anything, a silvery-white light suddenly leaped out from behind Bai Ye.
The Holy Light White Tiger padded gracefully to Yun Sheng’s feet, lifted its big, furry head, and gazed at her with pleading golden, beast-like eyes.
Then, it nudged its head against her calf.
Once.
And again.
A low, soft whimper escaped its throat, as if it had suffered some great injustice.
Seeing Yun Sheng look down at it, the tiger immediately pressed its advantage, nudging its entire head into her palm.
Its tail began to wag, sweeping against her ankle with each swish.
In that moment, it had none of the dignity befitting the spiritual body of the Star Alliance War God. It was clearly just a big cat begging for affection.
Bai Ye’s brow furrowed. "Get back."
The White Tiger’s ears twitched. It pretended not to hear and instead pressed even closer to Yun Sheng’s leg.
"Get back."
Bai Ye’s voice deepened.
This time, the White Tiger stopped wagging its tail altogether. It simply plopped down by Yun Sheng’s feet, looked up at her, and let out a long, disgruntled huff.
The sound was incredibly wronged, as if to say: ’Why should I go back? I won’t!’
Yun Sheng looked at the big cat stubbornly refusing to leave her feet, then at Bai Ye’s complicated, unreadable expression. For a moment, she didn’t know what to say.
Just then, the White Tiger nudged her hand with its head again, silently asking for pets, its golden, beast-like eyes filled with longing.
A corner of Yun Sheng’s heart softened instantly.
She raised her hand and gently stroked its head.
The White Tiger squinted in comfort, a rumbling purr starting in its throat. It pressed its whole head into her palm, as if wishing it could melt right into her hand.
It even pushed its luck further by rolling onto its back, exposing its furry belly. Its four legs kicked randomly in the air, its tail swaying back and forth.
Yun Sheng couldn’t resist. She bent down and rubbed its belly.
The White Tiger was so comfortable its tail curled up.
Bai Ye stood to the side, watching his own spiritual body roll around and act cute under Yun Sheng’s touch. His jaw was clenched tight, every nerve screaming.
When that hand stroked the White Tiger’s head, he could feel a soft touch on his own.
When that hand rubbed the White Tiger’s belly, his own abs tightened uncontrollably.
Warm, soft, carrying a heat that was dangerously addictive.
It was as if that hand wasn’t petting the White Tiger, but him.
Bai Ye’s breathing grew heavier, his entire body as taut as a fully drawn bow.
He pressed his lips into a hard line and stared at his spiritual body, his voice growing colder. "Get up!"
The White Tiger’s ears twitched. It pretended not to hear.
"I said, get up."
This time, the White Tiger didn’t even open its eyes. Instead, it nuzzled against Yun Sheng’s hand again, its purr growing louder.
Bai Ye: "..."
Yun Sheng looked at the White Tiger stubbornly planted at her feet, then at Bai Ye’s ashen face. She gave the tiger’s head one last pat and said softly, "Sorry, I should go."
In truth, if the White Tiger hadn’t suddenly appeared, she would have simply left already.
The words had barely left her mouth when the White Tiger lunged, clamping its jaw on her pant leg.
It held on tightly, making it clear it didn’t want her to leave.
Yun Sheng froze, her gaze meeting those golden, beast-like eyes.
The White Tiger gazed at her pleadingly, letting out a wronged whimper as its tail swept gently against her ankle.
It had never managed to win against that wolf and its detestable master before. Now that it finally had Yun Sheng all to itself, how could it bear to let her go?
Besides, it could feel its own master’s true emotions.
He was clearly even more reluctant to let her go than it was. His spiritual power was still clinging to her, refusing to let go. His eyes were glued to her, unable to look away. Yet he still had to put on a stern face and say, "You can go."
Stubborn fool.
Too proud to admit what he wanted.
Sooner or later... he was going to die alone!
The White Tiger shot its master a glare of exasperation, tightened its grip on Yun Sheng’s pant leg, and wrapped its tail directly around her calf. Its actions screamed: ’You’re not allowed to leave!’
A vein throbbed a few times on Bai Ye’s temple.
He closed his eyes and took a deep breath.
The next second, the Holy Light White Tiger’s form suddenly dissolved into a streak of light and was forcibly recalled into his body.
At the same time, he also forcefully pulled back the spiritual power still wrapped around Yun Sheng’s wrist.
Bai Ye looked at Yun Sheng, a darkness swirling in his eyes, but he suppressed it with all his might.
"Sorry about just now. This time... I won’t stop you again."
Yun Sheng’s fingertips curled slightly.
She looked at Bai Ye—at his face, so pale it was almost bloodless; at the throbbing vein on his temple; at his fist that clenched and unclenched—and nodded.
Without a word, she turned, lifted the tent flap, and walked out.
The flap fell shut behind her.
Bai Ye stood rooted to the spot, motionless.
Not until her footsteps had faded completely away, not until he could no longer sense her presence, did his body suddenly sway.
His fist clenched abruptly, knuckles turning white as veins bulged on his hand.
The spiritual power he had forcibly suppressed lashed back with a vengeance. Like a wild beast breaking its reins, it rampaged through his spiritual landscape, crashing against the already faintly widening cracks and causing them to shatter even faster.
A sweet taste filled his throat.
A trickle of fresh blood escaped the corner of his mouth, slid down his jaw, and dripped onto the bandage on his chest.
Bai Ye didn’t raise a hand to wipe it away. He just stared fixedly in the direction Yun Sheng had left, the darkness in the depths of his eyes thick and impenetrable.
Yun Sheng hadn’t gone far from the tent when she ran into Luo Cheng, who was standing nearby.
Luo Cheng didn’t actually know the specifics of Yun Sheng’s special ability.
He only knew that Bai Ye cared about her, which was why he had taken it upon himself to bring her here.
Seeing her emerge alone now, he didn’t ask any questions. He simply stepped aside slightly and made a gesture of invitation.
"Miss Yun, I’ll escort you back to camp."
Yun Sheng lifted her gaze toward a point outside the ravine and shook her head.
"That won’t be necessary. I can get back on my own."
She paused, then looked at Luo Cheng again.
"You... should go check on General Bai right away. His condition... is probably not good."
The moment she had stepped out of the tent, she had sensed the surge in his spiritual power’s aura, which was even more chaotic than before.
Luo Cheng froze, instinctively glancing toward Bai Ye’s tent.
A second later, his brow furrowed deeply.
"I’ll have someone escort you..."
Before he could finish, Yun Sheng was already walking quickly out of the ravine.
Luo Cheng frowned and hesitated for a moment, then beckoned two Sentinels to follow her while he himself hurried toward Bai Ye’s tent.
Yun Sheng walked quickly. She had just left the ravine when a figure darted silently from the shadows of the trees and landed at her side.
"You didn’t help soothe him?"
Her steps faltered, and she turned her head to look.
Si Jin was standing right beside her, his beautiful blue eyes staring straight at her.
Yun Sheng raised an eyebrow. "What, you wanted me to help him?"
Si Jin choked on his words.
"Not jealous anymore?" she added.
