Every Sentinel I Dreamed of Came Looking for Me
Chapter 153: He’s About to Lose Control
Chapter 153: Chapter 153: He’s About to Lose Control
Yun Sheng’s heart sank.
’This is bad!’
If Bai Ye’s spiritual power were to go berserk right now, with his strength, he could kill all of them combined the moment he lost control.
Moreover, they were trapped in the canyon with no way forward. The only way out was to go back the way they came.
But what if more High Order pollutants were chasing them from that direction?
If Bai Ye really lost control, they would be caught in a pincer attack and would certainly die!
Yun Sheng stared intently at Bai Ye, a million thoughts racing through her mind.
A few seconds later, she suddenly stood up.
"Yun Sheng?" Cheng Nian looked at her, confused. "What’s wrong?"
"Nothing." Yun Sheng’s expression was so calm it betrayed nothing. "I have something to ask the White Tiger Officer."
After speaking, she walked over to Bai Ye and slowly sat down beside him.
The distance between them closed abruptly.
Bai Ye’s body grew even more tense. The violent aura around him seemed to stutter for a subtle moment as she drew near.
Yun Sheng’s heart was pounding, but she kept her voice steady, asking softly enough for only the two of them to hear, "Are... are you injured? Your spiritual power feels very wrong."
The moment her words fell, Bai Ye’s breathing seemed to hitch.
He slowly opened his eyes.
His dark eyes were bloodshot, roiling with an untamable violence and mania. He looked like a ferocious beast ready to devour anyone at a moment’s notice.
But the instant his gaze met Yun Sheng’s, that trace of violence was fiercely suppressed.
"I was careless earlier. I got a little injured, but it’s not serious."
Yun Sheng frowned. "Where are you hurt? You don’t look well... and your spiritual power is agitated. Are you really okay?"
Bai Ye’s gaze fell on her face, hot and intense. He suddenly smiled.
"Are you worried about me?"
Yun Sheng froze, then reflexively explained, "We’re teammates. You’re the strongest in the squad right now. If you get hurt, we’ll be in even more danger. It’s only natural for me to be concerned, right?"
Bai Ye looked at her without a word.
After a few seconds, he spoke in a low voice, "Whatever the reason, I’m very happy that you’re concerned about me."
Yun Sheng opened her mouth to say something but found herself at a loss for words.
Just then, the expression on Bai Ye’s face suddenly changed.
He whipped his head around to look toward the canyon entrance. The gentle aura around him instantly turned sharp and fierce.
Yun Sheng followed his gaze but saw nothing.
"Something’s coming." Bai Ye stood up, his voice cold and grave. "A Super S-level."
As soon as the words were out, he prepared to head toward the canyon entrance.
Yun Sheng instinctively reached out and grabbed his sleeve.
Bai Ye paused and looked back at her.
"Be... be careful." Yun Sheng’s voice was tight.
Bai Ye looked at her, the corners of his lips curling into a slight smile.
"Mm."
He responded with a sound of assent, then his figure blurred as he shot toward the canyon entrance at top speed.
Outside the canyon, a massive black shadow slowly emerged from the darkness.
It was a colossal beast, jet-black all over. Its body was like a small, moving mountain, with several rows of ghastly white bone spikes growing from its back, each one glinting with a cold light.
The most terrifying part was its head. Its entire face consisted of a single, enormous mouth filled with fangs, and a grotesque vertical pupil on its forehead.
The vertical pupil was blood-red, like a burning will-o’-the-wisp in the darkness, and it was staring intently at the people inside the canyon.
"An Eye-devouring Beast... another Super S-level..."
Ma Yu’s voice trembled as he instinctively looked toward Guo Kai.
Guo Kai’s expression was extremely grim. He tightened his grip on his knife. "When can the reinforcements get here?"
"Major General Qi said he’s leading a team here personally..." Ma Yu swallowed hard. "Given the distance, and with all the pollutants on the outskirts, the earliest they can arrive is probably dawn, right?"
Dawn.
Still several hours away.
Guo Kai clenched his back teeth, his jaw tightening so hard that the veins on his temples bulged.
Yun Sheng suddenly spoke up. "Brother Guo, is there anything we can do?"
Guo Kai was taken aback, then gave a bitter smile. "A Super S-level... If we go, we’ll just be a burden. Right now, all we can do is... hope White Tiger can hold on."
"But..."
Yun Sheng opened her mouth, wanting to say something.
’She wanted to say that Bai Ye was injured, that his spiritual power was already showing signs of going berserk. If he kept fighting like this, she feared...’
But looking at the already tense and anxious faces of her teammates, the words tumbled in her throat and were ultimately swallowed back down.
At that moment, the Eye-devouring Beast had already begun to slowly walk in from outside the canyon.
It didn’t pounce madly at Bai Ye like an ordinary pollutant. Its blood-red vertical pupil locked onto him, as if scrutinizing an ant that didn’t know its place and dared to stand in its way.
Suddenly, it opened its massive maw.
There was no sound.
But the air around Bai Ye abruptly distorted. Several invisible shockwaves, laced with sharp spiritual power spikes, slammed into him from different directions at once!
It was a dual attack, a synchronized physical and spiritual assault!
Bai Ye spun around, dodging with ease. With his level of strength, a probing attack of this degree was nothing.
In the next second, however, Yun Sheng suddenly felt a wave of dizziness. A sharp, needle-like pain stabbed from deep within her spiritual landscape.
It felt as if countless thin needles were churning in her mind, the pain so intense that her vision went black.
Beside her, Cheng Nian let out a muffled groan, her face instantly turning ashen as she swayed on her feet.
"This is..." Guo Kai gritted his teeth. "A spiritual attack... It’s so strong!"
Even though the Eye-devouring Beast’s attack wasn’t aimed at them, just the aftershock of the battle was almost too much for them to bear.
Bai Ye’s eyes darkened.
He raised his hand, and a silvery spiritual power barrier instantly erected itself in front of the group, blocking the aftershocks of the Eye-devouring Beast’s attack.
Behind the barrier, everyone let out a collective sigh of relief.
But Bai Ye no longer had time to look at them.
The Eye-devouring Beast moved.
Its massive body was unnervingly fast. In the blink of an eye, it lunged in front of Bai Ye, its sharp claws descending with a screech that tore through the air!
Bai Ye raised his blade to block.
BANG!
The massive impact shattered the ground beneath his feet.
He steadied himself and swung his blade back toward the Eye-devouring Beast’s head, but it dodged by turning to the side.
The man and the beast were locked in a chaotic battle at the canyon entrance.
Flashes of the blade and claws crossed. Yun Sheng watched Bai Ye’s figure from behind the barrier, her heart beating faster and faster.
As the fight dragged on, she could feel that something was increasingly wrong with the aura around Bai Ye.
The violence he had been suppressing was slowly reawakening and expanding amidst the fierce battle.
The fluctuations in his spiritual power were terrifyingly intense. Even from behind the barrier, they could feel the dreadful pressure that made one’s heart pound in fear.
"His spiritual power..." Yun Sheng murmured, her face pale.
Just then, the Eye-devouring Beast’s vertical pupil abruptly lit up with a blinding, bloody light.
It opened its giant maw, and a spiritual shockwave, far more terrifying than before, surged out like a crazed tsunami!
At the same time, its massive body lunged forward, its claws descending with a force that seemed capable of tearing everything apart.
Bai Ye swung his blade to block the claws while simultaneously surging his spiritual power to build a barrier in front of him, bracing against the spiritual shockwave.
However, the very instant the Eye-devouring Beast’s spiritual power slammed into his barrier, the cracks that had already been widening deep within his spiritual landscape suddenly shattered!
The rampaging spiritual power he had been desperately suppressing instantly went out of control. His entire spiritual landscape trembled violently, and the light on his barrier dimmed abruptly, creating a momentary opening.
The Eye-devouring Beast’s spiritual shockwave exploited the opening, crashing into the depths of Bai Ye’s consciousness like a flood from a broken dam!
