Eternal Thief
Chapter 1727: Aftermath & Result of Evernight Trial (3)
When Dread Duchess mentioned Nomad out of nowhere, everyone seemed to finally remember the disciple of the Moonless Wandering King.
Moreover, Nomad was the actual reason behind the opening of the Evernight Sanctuary before time and the changes in the Evernight Trial. Yet not only did he fail, but he also seemed to have vanished in the Undead Cradle.
Although the Evernight Dukes were interested in Nomad because of his connection with the Moonless Wandering King, and even Evernight Kings were paying attention to him, whether he was alive or dead had nothing to do with them.
But the Dread Duchess was different because Nomad had been ’sent’ to her instead of other Evernight Dukes, which means it was probably because of the Moonless Wandering King’s intention.
That’s why the Dread Duchess thought it was her duty to protect him and make sure that he was alive, or the Moonless Wandering King might hold a grudge against her if anything happened to him.
Although Nomad had told her he had approached her only because of his past connection with Eva, her reasoning was different; she considered it the Moonless Wandering King’s intention.
Moreover, Nomad had also done her a huge favor when he gave her the credit of the Ghost King, and earned her the Evernight Devil King’s favor, so she already considered him one of her own.
That’s why she had personally gone to the Black Hermit City to ensure his safety and then even questioned the Evernight Envoys about his privileges in the Evernight Trial.
However, upon her arrival at the Undead Cradle, the Midnight Duke refused to reveal anything. She also found no clues about Nomad from Eva, and the events there took a dramatic turn, leaving her no choice but to focus on her task.
But that doesn’t mean she had forgotten about him, and now that Nomad wasn’t here in the Ark, she could only assume that he had either perished or been abandoned by the Evernight Council.
Whichever the case is, she wanted to know exactly what had transpired in the Undead Cradle and how Nomad ended up like that despite his extraordinary abilities.
The Midnight Duke was also caught unguarded by Dread Duchess, as he almost forgot about Nomad with all the other things that happened at once. Even though he knew what had happened to Nomad, he didn’t want to reveal that information without the Evernight Kings’ permission.
He impassively replied, "Forgive me, Dread Duchess, but I can’t reveal anything about Nomad to you because this matter is no longer for me to decide. If you really want to know what happened, you should seek High Majesties. Please don’t mention this again."
This time, not only the Dread Duchess, but other Evernight Dukes were also startled since they weren’t expecting Nomad’s matter to be handled by the Evernight Kings.
Now everyone was curious about what Nomad did to draw the Evernight Kings’ attention, and even Midnight Duke didn’t want to address this topic. They all started to make wild speculations, but no one questioned Midnight Duke anymore.
But Dread Duchess was still unwilling to let go, since she knew seeking information from the Evernight Kings was out of the question, especially if this topic could displease them.
So, she curtly questioned, "If that’s the case, then I won’t ask what happened, but can Lord Midnight Duke at least tell me if he’s alive or not?"
The Midnight Duke frowned slightly at Dread Duchess’s persistence, but he knew Dread Duchess wouldn’t let this go easily, and offending her for this small reason wasn’t worth it since she wasn’t asking about the full story.
He thought for a moment before he hesitantly replied, "Although I haven’t confirmed it personally, with the special circumstances surrounding him, he won’t have survived!"
Dread Duchess frowned because Midnight Duke’s answer was very ambiguous and open to many interpretations. But she no longer raised any more questions since it didn’t matter even if he was alive because they were already inside the Evernight Sanctuary and the realm gateway had been destroyed.
Even if Nomad was alive, he would be stuck in the Undead Cradle. Not to mention if the Corpse Governor survived, he’d be a true Abyssal King, and hiding from an Abyssal King was nigh impossible even for a Half-Abyssal King.
Dread Duchess could only sigh ruefully as she had warned Nomad about the risks, and since the Moonless Wandering King was also aware of the Evernight Trial’s dangers, he wouldn’t blame it on Dread Duchess.
But she still felt regretful since Nomad was very talented, and if he had survived, she would’ve forged a strong connection with the Moonless Wandering King.
---
Far away from the bustling territories of the Evernight Sanctuary, beyond the enormous cities, ancient palaces, cultivation grounds, and even the deepest restricted regions of the Council, existed a place that almost no one within the Sanctuary had ever seen.
It was one of the most forbidden regions within the entire Evernight Sanctuary. No Evernight Duke, Count-Duke, Marquis, or any other existence below the Abyssal King Realm was permitted to enter this place without an order from the Evernight Kings.
In fact, throughout the entire history of the Evernight Council, only the three Evernight Kings had ever possessed the authority to freely enter its deepest regions.
The reason was simple: the Evernight Regal Void was the closest place within the entire Sanctuary to the realm core.
It was an immeasurable space buried beneath the deepest layers of the Sanctuary, where the ordinary laws of space, time, and distance had become exceptionally faint.
There was no enormous palace here, or magnificent city, but only an endless darkness that stretched without beginning or end, filled with countless streams of
laws.
Those laws moved through the darkness like enormous rivers, constantly flowing toward a distant point hidden beyond perception.
At the very center of this endless darkness existed an indescribably vast sphere of darkness. It was not a star, nor was it a treasure, for it was the Realm Core of the Evernight Sanctuary!
The entire secret realm seemed to breathe through it. Every mountain, every
formation, every Abyssal Crystal Lattice, every ancient structure, and every
law within the Sanctuary was faintly connected to this existence.
The Realm Core was also the reason why the Evernight Sanctuary could recover from devastating damage. As long as the Realm Core remained intact, the Sanctuary itself possessed an almost terrifying vitality.
The closer one came to it, the more terrifying the concentration of laws became.
For ordinary beings, even approaching this place was equivalent to walking into an ocean of laws. Only Abyssal Kings could endure it. Even then, only the three Evernight Kings were qualified to cultivate here without restriction!
At this moment, deep within the Evernight Regal Void, a solitary figure sat cross-legged in the endless darkness.
The Evernight Devil King!
