Eternal Thief
Chapter 1700: The Discoveries of Evernight Kings (2)
Despite the Evernight Fiend King’s boorish and overbearing personality, he was extremely shrewd, and the moment he stated his speculation, even the Evernight Demon King became eerily silent.
After all, the Evernight Demon King had been present in the Undead Cradle even before the sudden emergence of the Sky Stealer and then the disruption of the Undead Boundary.
She was there to take out Nomad because of his bizarre ability to cross into the Undead Boundary, because she and everyone who knew about it thought this could be their chance to finally infiltrate the impenetrable world of the Corpse Clan.
But not only did she fail, but before she could fully understand and analyze the bizarre reaction of her ritual’s failure, the Sky Stealer appeared, and everything from then on went so fast that she didn’t even have time to fully think about it.
Yet now, after entering the deepest parts of the Lower Grave Strata and discovering all those clues that led them to this place, she also felt what the Evernight Fiend King said made sense, and that made her even more uneasy.
"Eldest senior brother, I hate to admit it, but sometimes you are even more intelligent than second elder brother and I. So, can you please pretend to be a muscle brain indefinitely and let me feel good about myself?" The Evernight Demon King quipped, but despite her sarcasm, she fully acknowledged the latter’s judgment.
The Evernight Fiend King snorted but wasn’t offended by her words, as he knew she had ways with words.
"Well, I’m glad to know your inner inferiority complex, but right now we need to figure out what really is going on in this place." The Evernight Fiend King stated gravely.
The Evernight Demon King nodded as she also agreed with him and said, "I also think what you said is most likely true. But doesn’t this mean the Sky Stealer is the one who stole whatever is here, and because of this, the Undead Boundary was destroyed?
"Moreover, if this thing were actually the core of the Undead Boundary, then someone had already taken the most precious treasure of this entire realm, and probably everything else if the Central Repository were part of it. After all, everything here seemed to be connected, and this Sky Stealer had a huge advantage over us."
The Evernight Fiend King’s eyes turned deadly cold. "If that’s true, then we need to find this Sky Stealer!"
"I don’t think it’s going to be that easy." The Evernight Demon King solemnly stated, "Even if we ignored the uncanny abilities and mystery behind these strange provocative words, and that owl symbol in the sky, we have no idea who the Sky Stealer is or where he belongs.
"For all we know, he might be some hidden sealed existence from an unknown era and now freed from his prison. If anything, we should make sure he never leaves this place, and if he’s beyond our abilities, we should also consider a contingency plan..."
Before the Evernight Demon King could finish her words, suddenly a deep, profound Qi ripple erupted somewhere far ahead.
’BOOOOOOM!’
Instantly, both Evernight Kings immediately turned toward the same direction, and their expressions changed simultaneously, with shock flashing across even the Evernight Demon King’s calm face.
"This aura..." She instinctively muttered.
The Evernight Fiend King’s eyes widened, "...No..."
Without another word, both Abyssal Kings vanished instantly as if this was something far more important than unraveling the mystery of the Sky Stealer.
Several breaths later, they arrived before another enormous chamber, and the closer they came, the heavier the pressure became as the surrounding space distorted violently and endless corpse Qi surged in chaotic waves.
Every fluctuation carried terrifying suppression, and the source of this was the sealed Corpse Governor’s throne chamber!
The Evernight Demon King’s expression became unusually grave, "...If this is what I think it is...we cannot allow whoever is responsible to succeed."
Even the battle-hungry Evernight Fiend King no longer smiled, "...Whether that’s really happening or not..."
He slowly lifted his halberd and his killing intent erupted, "...it doesn’t matter. We’ll stop them first. Moreover, if this is the Sky Stealer, then we don’t need to worry about it at all because this means they are not some ancient monster beyond our understanding!"
The Evernight Demon King’s eyes suddenly lit up as she nodded, "You do have a point! But we need to be quick since those guys up there won’t be able to handle it if that type of Abyssal Ordeal were triggered!"
The next instant, both Evernight Kings charged toward the throne chamber without the slightest hesitation!
---
Deep within the Corpse Governor’s sealed chamber, silence reigned.
The chamber no longer resembled the prison it had been for countless years. The shattered corpse veins that had once restrained the Corpse Governor now lay strewn across the black floor like lifeless serpents. Their ancient runes had long since dimmed, leaving behind only cracked fragments of forgotten laws.
At the center, the Corpse Governor sat cross-legged, completely motionless, and his corpse flames had disappeared.
In their place floated an immense Undead Soul, translucent yet incomparably real, suspended directly above his skeletal body. The soul radiated a profound pressure that seemed capable of suppressing the surrounding heavens themselves.
Within its forehead, a faint gray-black crack had begun to form, which seemed more like a gate than a crack, leading toward an entirely different realm.
Around the Undead Soul, profound Abyssal Laws revolved like countless rivers converging upon a single dark spherical sea. Every strand of Corpse Qi within the forbidden region flowed toward this chamber, disappearing into that enormous soul.
Its aura continued climbing, higher and higher...until...
’Boom...!’
A nearly imperceptible ripple spread outward, and the entire Lower Grave Strata trembled. Even the surrounding space instinctively bent away. It was only a trace, yet that trace carried something neither heaven nor earth could ignore.
It was the King’s Might!
A genuine, unmistakable hint of King’s Might, a unique aura that only belonged to the Abyssal King Realm, had begun to emerge from the Corpse Governor’s Undead Soul.
Although it was incredibly faint and incomplete, it was enough to make every Half-Abyssal King instinctively shudder.
The Corpse Governor slowly opened his eyes, and within those abyssal sockets, the corpse flames had transformed. They burned with terrifying clarity, no longer chaotic nor unstable, and only absolute determination remained.
"I’ve waited..." His hoarse voice echoed softly. "...for far too long."
The disappearance of the Undead Heart Seal had removed the final shackle suppressing both his madness and his evolution. With his centuries of accumulation and his endless refinement, everything had finally reached completion.
Now, only the final step remained...the Abyssal Ordeal of the Abyssal King Realm. A trial that determined whether one would ascend as an Abyssal King or perish forever!
