Chapter 697 640: A Late Bloomer, Spirit Medicine Tower Handover

But he knew in his heart that with a new Steward taking over, the number of people who could remain would ultimately depend on Yang Chan's choices. In the short term, however, there probably wouldn't be any major changes—unless there were some die-hards.

As he thought this, his gaze swept over several people. They were all loyal followers of the Quasi-Saint Son and had previously been affiliated with Zhu Feiyu.

When Zhu Feiyu was alive, they held high positions in the Spirit Medicine Tower and were highly valued by him. But now that the Steward of the Spirit Medicine Tower had been replaced, these same people were now targets for dismissal.

However, Fang Zhi'an only gave them a passing glance. He wasn't Yang Chan; the specific arrangements were, of course, Yang Chan's responsibility.

He wouldn't dare meddle in certain affairs. 'Though it may seem I have Pavilion Master Bai Keyi's backing,' he thought, 'I know I'm not that important to him. If I interfere in something with major repercussions, I'll just be cast aside.'

Those who climbed their way up from the bottom knew the importance of self-preservation.

Only immense benefits could compel them to take a risk.

Yang Chan, however, noticed all of this. Although he didn't know who those people were, he committed to memory the subtle shift in Fang Zhi'an's expression and the individuals he had been looking at.

'It doesn't matter that I don't know now,' he thought. 'I'll proceed slowly, according to Pavilion Master Bai Keyi's wishes. For now, it's enough to remember their faces.'

"Steward Yang, this is Xu San, an Intermediate Pharmacist. He's responsible for…"

"And this is…"

Fang Zhi'an meticulously introduced everyone to Yang Chan, detailing their identities and responsibilities with extreme precision.

Every Pharmacist possessed a memory far superior to that of an ordinary person; it was a prerequisite for promotion. After all, the sheer volume of information was staggering. They had to read countless books, commit the contents to memory, and not just remember but fully digest the knowledge, internalizing it completely. Only then could they pass the Pharmacist assessment.

Every Pharmacist was well aware of the difficulty involved, as was anyone who had attempted the assessment. That was why someone with a poor memory could never become a Pharmacist.

Therefore, Fang Zhi'an made his introductions quickly, unworried that Yang Chan wouldn't be able to keep up.

The abilities of a Genius Pharmacist often surpassed all expectations. The performance of the previous one, Yuwen Ze, had been far beyond what anyone anticipated when he first arrived at the Spirit Medicine Tower.

Although he had caused some trouble, he quickly secured his position as the Steward of the Spirit Medicine Tower, and the abilities he displayed left many feeling utterly dwarfed.

Only fellow Pharmacists could truly understand just how formidable the abilities of such a Genius Pharmacist were.

Fang Zhi'an was acting on this very understanding. He did not treat Yang Chan as an ordinary person. As he handed over his duties, he moved with extreme speed, starting by clearly explaining the most basic information.

For an ordinary person, this would have been the most time-consuming part of the process, but for a Pharmacist, it required little time at all.

Fang Zhi'an spoke quickly, not at all concerned that Yang Chan couldn't follow.

"Pharmacist Yang, that's the basic rundown on everyone!"

By presenting the personnel and their information together, Fang Zhi'an allowed Yang Chan to quickly familiarize himself with the state of the Spirit Medicine Tower. While it was only a partial picture, it was a complete one from an official standpoint. He trusted that Yang Chan would investigate any unsaid information through Chiyu Peak, and that part was none of his business.

His choice was to remain objective and avoid getting too involved.

It wasn't just a question of whether his interference would even be useful; the consequences were more than he could bear. The choice, therefore, was simple.

Once Fang Zhi'an finished the introductions, the others filed out one by one to attend to their duties, leaving only the two of them in the room.

These people couldn't just stand around idly in the Spirit Medicine Tower; they all had assigned tasks. Their presence wasn't merely for Yang Chan's sake.

"Thank you, Pharmacist Fang. This information will save me a great deal of time!"

Yang Chan spoke with genuine sincerity. For him, this level of cooperation was more than enough.

"Shall I continue, then, Steward Yang?" Fang Zhi'an said, moving on from the personnel introductions. "I can tell you about the tower's operations and the common ways we handle certain issues."

He had his own plan for the handover. By covering personnel, their duties, and operational matters together, he could help Yang Chan quickly get up to speed on the Spirit Medicine Tower's affairs. The sooner the handover was complete, the sooner he could return full control to Yang Chan.

He knew Yang Chan would eventually replace the Intermediate Pharmacists in the Spirit Medicine Tower. 'That's the kind of thing I need to stay out of if I can. I will not get sucked into that troublesome vortex.'

The sooner the handover was done, the sooner he could escape this predicament and distance himself from the conflicts here.

Some spectacles were fine to watch from a distance, but others you couldn't watch at all—especially if you were too close to the action.

One careless move, and you become part of the spectacle yourself. At that point, it's no longer a spectacle—it's a catastrophe.

Fang Zhi'an understood this all too well.

"Please continue, Pharmacist Fang," Yang Chan said.

Seeing how cooperative the other man was with the handover, Yang Chan naturally had no objections.

'For me, the sooner I get familiar with the situation and get the Spirit Medicine Tower in order, the better. Once things have stabilized, I'll have more time for Cultivation and Alchemy.'

If he'd had a better option, he wouldn't have wanted to get involved in the Spirit Medicine Tower's troublesome affairs. But now that he had joined the Merak Sacred Land, he couldn't remain detached from such things; he had to integrate. That didn't mean, however, that Yang Chan wanted to spend too much of his time on the tower's business.

'Once I'm familiar with how things work, I'll install my own people and slowly hand over control to those I trust. Once the Spirit Medicine Tower reaches a state of stability, I'll have more time for Cultivation and improving my Pharmacist Ability. To me, those are the things that truly matter.'

'It's fine to spend some time on trivial matters, but not too much.'

"Steward Yang, this part of the Spirit Medicine Tower is where the Superior Spirit Medicines are stored. To enter, you need…"

"This area is for gathering Spirit Medicines. The types we collect are… and they require…"

Fang Zhi'an explained everything he knew in extreme detail, introducing each aspect to Yang Chan one by one.
