Eternal Life Starts from Tai Chi
Chapter 689 - 638: New Steward of the Spirit Medicine Tower, The Pill Pavilion Master’s Summons
Yang Chan had only been to the Merak Sacred Land’s Pill Pavilion once before. That was when the two Direct Disciples from Xuanjin Peak, Feng Anliang and Sikong Qing, had led him there for his assessment.
For the next few days, he hadn’t come to the Pill Pavilion at all. He had remained on Chiyu Peak, focusing on his cultivation, reading books related to his profession, and familiarizing himself with the Merak Sacred Land. He hadn’t stepped out once.
Today, however, Yang Chan returned to the Pill Pavilion. He was only coming now that he had passed the Third Level Pill Master assessment and his official duties had been assigned.
His position had already been arranged—a decision reached after discussions among several Pavilion Masters of the Pill Pavilion. Naturally, there would be no further complications, and he would now face far fewer troubles.
When an outcome was uncertain, there was all sorts of overt and covert strife. But once the result was clear, such things would vanish.
At least, things wouldn’t be as intense as before, and any remaining issues would be confined to the Spirit Medicine Tower. The troubles and dangers he had to face would be greatly reduced—all falling within a range he could accept.
When he joined the Merak Sacred Land, he knew it would be difficult to remain uninvolved. He wasn’t yet powerful enough to be above it all, so he had to choose manageable troubles within a range he could accept.
However, Yang Chan now pushed all these thoughts from his mind and arrived at the Spirit Medicine Tower, where many people were already lined up and waiting.
Far more people were waiting here than Yang Chan had anticipated. The lines were very long, and they were almost all Pharmacists.
All Pharmacists had to come in person to collect the Spiritual Materials they needed, and they had to bring their Identity Tokens to make the exchange.
However, there were distinctions among those waiting in line.
There were three lines in front of the Spirit Medicine Tower. The longest one was for Basic Level Pharmacists, also known as the Pill Pavilion’s First-level Alchemists.
The line of medium length was for Intermediate Pharmacists, or Second Level Alchemists. For many Pharmacists, reaching this level was a watershed moment.
It was just like in the old Cyan Yuan Sect: out of more than fifty Pharmacists, over forty were Intermediate Pharmacists, while only two were Advanced Pharmacists.
There was also a significant age disparity to consider. The two Advanced Pharmacists, for example, had much longer lifespans. Because they had broken through to the Inner Master realm, their lifespans had increased by nearly sixty years, making them far outlive Pharmacists who had not made the same breakthrough.
This alone revealed the proportions at play.
The higher the Pharmacist Level, the fewer people managed to advance. Those who did were the true pillars of the sect, the elite, the very foundation of a great power’s strength.
As for the line for Advanced Pharmacists, it was much shorter, though there were still some people in it.
As for Top Level Pharmacists, they weren’t in any of these lines.
In the Merak Sacred Land, Top Level Pharmacists were either Pavilion Masters or Vice Pavilion Masters, holding an exalted status within the Pill Pavilion. When people of their stature needed Spiritual Materials, they naturally didn’t have to wait in line. As long as their request was within the limits of what they could redeem, they would be served first.
"You must be a newly promoted Basic Level Pharmacist, right? If you’re going into the Spirit Medicine Tower to collect Spirit Medicines, you need to queue up here first to get what you need!"
A young man in green robes waiting in line kindly called out just as Yang Chan was about to walk into the Spirit Medicine Tower.
In the Pill Pavilion, new faces were actually quite conspicuous.
Although the Pill Pavilion had many members, it also frequently held alchemy gatherings. These events allowed everyone to exchange their insights and experiences as Pharmacists. Through these discussions, members could rapidly expand their professional knowledge, identify and fill in gaps, and supplement any deficiencies in their learning.
An individual’s perspective is often one-sided, and it’s easy to overlook many details. But when many people communicate, they can fill in these easily missed gaps for one another.
Whether it was Alchemy or concocting medicines, it was through this constant communication that one could make up for their shortcomings and slowly improve their Pharmacist Abilities. This was how they could advance quickly—it was an excellent path for growth.
Therefore, through this process, most Pharmacists became acquainted with one another, or at the very least, familiar by sight. A strange face, conversely, almost always belonged to a newly promoted Pharmacist.
And that was precisely how this man had guessed Yang Chan’s identity.
"Thanks, but I’m not here to collect Spirit Medicines!"
Yang Chan nodded with a smile and continued toward the Spirit Medicine Tower.
It was only natural to return a stranger’s kindness with a smile.
"Hey..."
The man wanted to say more, but he saw that Yang Chan had already walked into the Spirit Medicine Tower.
"The Pill Pavilion’s administrative offices aren’t this way!"
The man shook his head and said slowly, his voice much quieter now.
’I was going to remind him, but it’s not a big deal,’ he thought. ’Someone inside the Spirit Medicine Tower will set him straight. It’ll just waste a bit of his time.’
’I remember making a few mistakes myself when I was first promoted to Basic Level Pharmacist,’ he mused. ’It didn’t cause any major problems. You just have to slowly get familiar with how the Pill Pavilion operates.’
’The Pill Pavilion is huge, after all. It takes time to get familiar with it. It took me a while to learn the layout and the function of each building, so I wouldn’t get lost like I did the first time.’
’I just saw that new face and wanted to give him a friendly reminder, that’s all. But he’s already gone, so there’s no need to dwell on it.’
’It’s not a bad thing for a newcomer to make a few mistakes. After all, you only learn and grow quickly after you mess up.’
The man waited in the long line; it would probably be quite a while until his turn. His gaze drifted toward the Spirit Medicine Tower, wondering when the new Pharmacist would emerge.
"Pharmacist Xu, are you waiting to see when that new Pharmacist comes out?"
The Pharmacist standing behind him noticed his gaze and asked with a smile.
It was always a bit amusing to watch newcomers get lost in the massive Pill Pavilion, only to hurry off in the direction someone pointed them.
